Stereotypes In Hip Hop And Hollywood Film
Over the past 20 years hip hop and Hollywood cinema have steadily maintained and produced cliché
and stereotypical images of hyper sexuality, violence, and the inequality of African American roles
within hip hop and Hollywood cinema. I believe that hip hop artists as well as Hollywood have still
maintained these clichés and stereotypes, instead of focusing on dissolving them, and creating an
equal basis of hip hop and Hollywood cinema, where white people and black people are looked
upon as the same and equal. Through the years Hip Hop has garnered a wide basis of followers.
Since its appearance in the 1970s, Hip Hop has kept the same themes, styles, and language without
much deflection towards a more equal base and less racially charged genre. ... Show more content

One such example is the 2010 action movie The Book of Eli. Focused in a dystopian future; a man
named Eli, played by actor Denzel Washington is trekking across the united states to the ocean,
where he believes his destiny must take him (brothers). On his journey he comes across violence,
horror, and misjudgment. But he overcomes and arrives at his destination successful. This is a rare
film being that it focuses almost solely on a Black protagonists and makes him dominant, smart, and
able to overcome any hindrance. This is a great example of how Hollywood took Hip Hop's rally on
attempting to make its Black characters central to the story and able to triumph over all trials and
stipulations. Though few in numbers, this movie shows how today, there is beginning to emerge, the
equality that is needed to make colors disappear and humans look at each other as people not as
groups and

Essay on Twin Peaks: A Short Story as a Sales Clerk
"Oh, great! You've got boobs!" She exclaimed, as she stabbed her pointy index finger into my left
breast.
I did not see that coming and the gesture took me aback. I was not sure whether to feel violated at
the hands of the manager of an internationally branded apparel store, or to feel proud at the remark. I
paused momentarily to gather myself together before saying anything.
"So, is that a good thing or a bad thing?" I asked, my voice wavering slightly, still being in the
recovery process.
"Oh, that's great, honey," Sheila, the manager chirped, trying to poke my other breast as well. I did a

That did not help my confusion. "Ummmm, so, this is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I faked a cough. "Can I help you, Ma'am?"
No response. It seemed as though her eyes grew wider staring at my breasts. That's right, woman!
Take a good, hard look at my twins!
Her hands moved as though they were going to grab them. I stepped back a little. Do you want me
to jump up and down a little and shake 'em in your face?
"Ma'am?" I said again, waving my hands in her line of sight. Nothing budged! She was elderly,
difficult to make out her age behind all that heavy makeup. She had jet black hair that fell over her
shoulder. She wore an expensive looking long knee length black gown and wore long woolen
gloves. But what got me all boiling was the animal skin she had draped over her shoulders.
"So, how many animals had to die for that?" I thought aloud.
"Say what?" the woman replied.
"Oh, nothing," I replied, smiling. Finally! "I was just saying 'hello'!"
"Oh, hello," she said, trying to put on a smile. Terrible wrinkles formed at the corner of her lips and
eyes! She smiled as though her skin was getting stretched to the hilt. It was hideous and I cringed.
"I'm Katherine!"
"Hello, Katherine," I said, not bothering to hide my anger at her brazen display of animal cruelty.
"How can I help you?"
"Well, I'm looking for a bra. Not too fancy, yet beautiful," she said.
"Well, Katherine, why don't you follow me and take a look around."
Katherine smiled and followed my lead. I took her to a little expensive corner of the lingerie

Saloon Alternate Ending
The Saloon was in very mean condition. The floor had become faded from foot traffic, and long
scratches and scrapes from past boots and shoes covered it in various spots. The walls, if they could
even be called that, had large holes from previous scuffles and rounds. Not one window covered any
of the walls making whoever entered feel trapped; as though once entered, a job must be done
before exiting. The few lights that strung from the ceiling projected a dim light, and one over the bar
produced a steady flickering that made the room seem even more like a cell. The bar was cluttered
and messed with shot glasses and beer bottles, most of which that dripped onto the surface of the
counter. Carvings surrounded the bar; produced by previous customers and drunkies. Behind the bar
stood the bartender, a short, stocky, middle–aged man who wore a deep frown just below his
handlebar mustache. Just one look at the man, one could see a great loneliness beneath the hardened
exterior of the man. It seemed almost as though he had lost something very dear to him, yet it was
hard to tell what. George sat next to Slim at the bar. The only other men in the bar were the
bartender and four ranchers who were playing poker in a corner table. George had his head tipped

The Human Eye Is A Perfect Well Designed Optical System
Abstract
According to the report for the 2012 National Health Interview Survey, at least 1.5 million
Americans weakened their vision due to use of technology. However, thanks to advanced
technology and innovation people can choose between glasses and contacts as a therapy for
improving their eyesight. Contact lenses have become the fastest progressing medical devices in
optometry and have seen a number of significant improvements and developments since its
existence (Schaeffer, 2011). According to Centers For Disease Control And Prevention, the first
plastic contact lenses were produced between 1938–1940 in the United States and the first soft
lenses came later in the 70s.

Perovic had. I did not want to look anything like her! First day of school was right around the corner
and as I was getting ready for it questions kept circulating in my mind. What would my friends
think? I was the only one with glasses. How would I play sports with glasses? Would I still get
invited to birthday parties? Will boys like me? Some of my friends thought my glasses were cool,
but deep inside I knew they were just trying to make me feel good. I still got invited to the parties,
but boys did not like me. But all of that did not bother me as much. What bothered me the most is
that I could not play sports with my glasses. They kept slipping from my nose or falling off my face
on the ground whenever I tried jumping or doing cartwheels. I thought my life would never be the
same.
¬ Loss of vision can happen at any age, even at birth, it is not only geriatric condition. With
increased use of technology people's eyesight gets worse causing eyestrain, loss of vision and other
problems. More than 30 million people in the U.S. wear contact lenses due to eye conditions such as
myopia, hyperopia, keratoconus, astigmatism, or presbyopia (Ţălu et al., 2011). Though contact
lenses seem to be a recent phenomenon, the famous Italian architect, mathematician and inventor
Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) produced the first known sketches for it five hundred years ago
(Siviglia, 2010). This paper will examine the

Who Is Alfonso Capone: Good Or Bad?
Before Capone became extremely wealthy and known for his atrocious acts, he was living a harsh,
difficult life. Alfonso Capone was born on January 17, 1899, in Brooklyn, New York. Capone's
parents were immigrants from Italy and earned a low income. Capone and his family lived in a
disorderly, poor neighborhood. It is clear to see that the Capone family struggled to make a living
when Diane Yancey stated, "In the Capone apartment, heat came from two stoves...a pipe in the
hallway supplied cold water, and a small shack in the backyard served as a communal toilet" (13).
Despite the rough living conditions, Capone's parents managed to keep Capone and his siblings
healthy. Education was never a big priority for Capone. Schools were dull and teachers demanded
compliance and would use physical force to achieve it when necessary. Capone did not like this
treatment and therefore began to rebel against education, even though he was a relatively good
student. Capone even got in a fist fight with a teacher. Capone's teachers described him as, "a child
who was rebellious and inclined to fight" (Yancey 15). The older Capone got, the more he favored
skipping school. At the age of fourteen Capone dropped out of school and got a job to help support
his family. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Capone associated himself with Torrio's business to potentially help support his mother. Capone sent
his wife and son back to Brooklyn while he headed to Chicago to work for one of the biggest illegal
enterprises at the time. This was Capone's turning point for his

Fairy Tale Analysis
Cinderella, We Know Thee Near and Far
Triumphant reward in spite of unjust punishment is a universal sentiment that transcends languages
and cultures. There are thousands of folktales and fairy tales that are firmly rooted in individual
cultures, yet the tale of Cinderella has been told through many centuries and throughout the far
corners of the world. With thousands of versions of this classic tale in print worldwide, the tale is
believed to have originated with the story of Rhodopis, a Greek slave girl who is married to an
Egyptian King. The story of Rhodopis, which means rosy–cheeks, dates back to 7 BC and is
attributed to a Greek geographer named Strabo. The Chinese variation of this fairy tale is named
Yeh–hsien. The Chinese version is traceable to the year 860 and appears in Miscellaneous Morsels
from Youyang by Duan Chengshi. Yeh–hsien is a young girl, motherless and in the control of her
stepmother, who befriends a treasured fish. The jealous step–mother kills the fish, but it's bones
provide Yeh–hsien with magical powers, eventually enabling Yeh–hsien to escape the control of her
step–mother for a royal life. The Story of the Black Cow which is found within the pages of Folk
Tales from the Himalayas by John Murray, published in 1906, the child who is mistreated by a
stepmother is a male and the role of savior is portrayed by a snake, with a cow serving as the moral
of the story, faithfulness. These two versions of Cinderella carry many common threads that are

The Era Of The Renaissance
Italy can be looked at as the home of the renaissance and consequently the immergence of great art.
Artists such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, Da Vinci, and Raphael are some of the greats and are
looked at for standards. But what about the artists whose lives are mysteries, and their works that
were influenced by the greats? These artists hold just as much importance in the history of art as do
the artist's whose names can be recalled off the top of an average person's head. During the sixteenth
century things began to change in the art world, and that change was the Baroque. This new style of
art brought a revolution to how subject matter was painted, it brought upon "... a radical
reconsideration of art and its purposes..." (249) and how artists of all ranks could learn to paint the
up and coming style of Baroque.
Renaissance art created standards and principles that every painting and artist had to utilize in order
to even be considered good, let alone great. Characteristics such as the phenomenon of natural light,
one–point and linear perspective, and highly idealized religious or mythological figures changed
into the Baroque techniques of manipulating light to create emphasis, dramatizing the illustrated
allegory, and unidealized realism. Additionally, "... the Baroque trend dominated and gave its name
to the age... [but it was the presence of both styles] that give the Italian seventeenth century its
richness and diversity." (4) Italy, and Rome especially, is home to what can

Comparing The Future In Harrison Bergeron And Old Glory
Adding futuristic details in stories can be a great way to help develop a plot and establish a theme.
The genre of science fiction uses this principle to convey a message to the reader, but at the same
time, keeping the story interesting and exciting enough to continue reading. Both Bruce Coville
(author of "Old Glory") and Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (author of "Harrison Bergeron") use the setting of the
future to develop the themes of their stories in similar ways and in different ways.
First off, both authors use the uncertainty of the future to make their themes more believable.
Contrary to being set in the present, most readers do not have a clear view of what is plausible in the
future, which makes the theme more believable for readers. This can be clearly seen in this quote
taken from "Old Glory", "Everyone knows that even though the new law allows for instant
executions, the Shoot‐On‐Sight men are supposed to give a guy a chance. But Gran–Da didn't care.

doesn't do as often. Whether it be freedom of speech or right to a fair trial, Coville depicts a world
where those ideas are no longer valid in society. In "Old Glory" the author shows an example of this,
"What would happen if other people started to believe like Gran‐Da‐‐ crazy things, like everybody
should be allowed to say whatever they wanted to? What kind of world would that be?", and "When
I was a boy this piece of cloth used to stand for something. Yes, it did. In fact, it stood for a whole
lot of things. Ideas. Like that a man should be free to say what he thinks, and worship where he
wants, and get together with other folks when it pleases him. But not any more." This shows that the
author's depiction of future society, which consists of lack of freedom and a somewhat totalitarian
government, helps develop his

Police Brutality In Brazil Essay
You're walking home late at night and a police officer keeps on giving you weird looks, deciding
that fear was your best friend at the moment you pushed yourself to walk because you didn't want to
end up like one of the people you see dead on the news or in the street. Over the past 10 years,
violent killings caused my police officers decreased before it started to slowly rise during the start of
2016. From the months January to March, there were approximately 322 civilians killed from
interventions of police officers. Brazil is the world's most dangerous city to live in. On each and
every single street corner there are heavily armed police and military units. "...it is widely accepted

All over the nation, police are seen treating simple arrests as hard core fugitive cases. Officers use
excessive force even though it is not needed most times. Robert Muggah from the Guardian states,
"A 2014 Stanford–University–led survey of Rio's military police officers found that many
experienced high levels of violence during childhood." According to the study explained above it
was shown that approximately twenty five percent of the military and police officers in Rio were
victims of a some type of violent assault at a young age, and another thirty two state that they have
witnessed a close friend or family being murdered. Going off of this statement it can be shown that
being exposed to high levels of violence at a young age can affect that particular individual.
Exposure to violence is just one of the several details that make up the aspect of police brutality.
Another detail that ties into the factor of police brutality can be interpreted as the lack of morality.
Police officers in Brazil either get their pay late or not at all, because of this, police officers can
begin to lack the necessary feelings to care about what the job they are doing. Being paid late and
most times lower amounts than usual brings up the next topic that comes up in a couple of minutes.
Based on the article written by Mr. Robert Muggah, it was stated that lowering the amount of money
that police officers are being paid and switching the times that they are supposed to be paid, lowers

Analysis Of Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing
The art of storytelling is a primary foundation for human communication and understanding.
Whether it is through myths – Greek, Roman, Egyptian, you pick – or wives tales or even Grandpa
telling his old war stories, stories have power. Through technological advancements in the last 150+
years, there are multiple mediums to tell stories; film being the most potent medium used. Film has
the power to not only entertain but enlighten too. Filmmakers have the ability to challenge and
manipulate the power of the story through creative resistance; by exploring other elements of
storytelling: location, voice, color, angles, rhythm, language, filmmakers can create dramatically
different films out of the same story. Many of these filmmakers, through the feminist movement,
have taken Hollywood by storm. There are many individuals that believe the feminist movement is a
woman's movement – to further the female agenda – and while, it is true ... Show more content on

As I just stated, I have spent the majority of this paper discussing women in film; why I think all of
this leads well into the analysis of this film is because feminism forgot/didn't include African
American's. In Lee's film, set in Brooklyn in 1989, African American's are still being prejudiced
against; in the way that Johnston, Haskell, Rosen, Williams, etc., all discuss what it was to be a
woman in Hollywood, omitting the way African American's were also poorly treated and often
vilified, the Caucasian suppressors in this film "forget" about the success of the Civil Rights
movement in the 1960s. It is 1989 and they are still be oppressed. African American's are free, to an
extent. In the same way women had rights in the 20s on, but weren't treated well is the same way
African American's were treated – and in some places are still

My Love For Camden Football
1. Friday nights were spent under those bright lights with our boys in blue.
My love for Camden football began at a young age, from sitting with my parents at every game, to
the monumental moment of finally being able to sit with my friends in the middle school section.
Then the years of dreams of being able to dit in the rowdy student section came true during the High
School years. Camden football was truly a religion growing up, but I wouldn 't have wanted to ask
off work for anything else. The memories made at the game will something I will forever cherish,
once a wildcat always a wildcat.

haven 't lived if you have not tried Wee Pub. From their wings to spaghetti to subs, are all to die for
even their desserts and appetizers are unlike no other. Growing up with Wee Pub constantly as a
staple was truly a blessing.

Some may call Woodbine, the town in Camden that literally has nothing.Yet now living in a city
with a stop light around every corner and traffic like Jacksonville during rush hour I tend to miss the
middle nowhere. I would literally give anything to be back in this beautiful city every time that 5 o

much crime. To this day you will always see everybody at the dollar

Diane Arbus Research Paper
There are many artists that exist that many people have no idea about other than the most known
ones like, Michael Angelo or Leonardo da Vinci. I also am guilty of this, I had no idea about all the
other fascinating artists out there. On the other hand, once you start researching about different kinds
of artist you become interested in their artwork, their life and what inspired them to create their
artwork. That's exactly what happened to me when I started researching for this research paper. I

photographs. Diane Arbus was a photographer and was born on March 14, 1923 in New York City.
She began gaining curiosity and enjoyed drawing painting and working with clay while in high
school. Diane got married at the young age of 18 to a man named Allan Arbus. She learned

Essay on The Horse Fair by Rosa Bonheur
The Horse Parade Dozens of horses are charging through the fair grounds, each hoof vibrating the
ground, which causes chaos to erupt. Some horses are white as for a person of royalty, and others a
mysterious brown. Through all this chaos, Rosa Bonheur paints what is before her. Her painting is
called The Horse Fair. The painting itself is 8 feet tall by 16 feet wide.1 The Horse Fair is located at
the Metropolitan Museum of Art.1 Bonheur uses a panoramic view in her painting.2 The Horse Fair
was inspired by the horse market that Rosa Bonheur use to visit on Boulevard De l'Ho ̂pital.1 The
building in the upper far left of the painting is called Asylum on Salpetriere, which is located in
Paris.3 The people on the hill in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bonheur was an important figure in women's right; she herself reflects the social movement for
women. She was a women that didn't let society's standards keep her down; she worked hard to
build her career. Bonheur was the first woman in France to get a permit to wear pants.1 The police's
reasoning for allowing Rosa this permit was because of health, and her doctor co–signed the
permit.1 The slaughterhouses and fairgrounds would dirty her dresses thus it was impractical for her
to wear a dress. Bonheur was smart she knew what wearing pants would do to her career.1 She knew
buyers would not purchase paintings that came from a woman who wore pants, so Bonheur would
wear dresses to social events. Naturalism in art is both a style and a theory of accurate representation
of details in demonstrating an object or living thing.2 For example, to portray an animal
anatomically correctly, one needs to see the animals from the inside out. Similar to Leonardo Da
Vinci, Bonheur would dissect the animal to understand the anatomy.1 Unlike Da Vinci, Bonheur
strictly dissected animals. Being anatomically correct is a huge key in making a piece of work
realistic. The purpose of explaining her work is to prove that Rosa Bonheur displays naturalism
through her painting. Rosa Bonheur used many structural elements in creating The Horse Fair; in
addition to Bonheur's anatomical accuracy, she used chiaroscuro, and color to display naturalism.

The Influence Of Grime And Trap Music On The Media And...
Grime and trap music have slowly found their way to the top of mainstream popular music culture
over the last decade. Grime is now one of Britain's largest and well known musical styles as it is

therefore impacting on the public perception of the music and the culture that it has sprung from.

Grime has gigantic potential, both commercially and artistically. But it 's always failed to live up to
expectations, and violence is partly to blame. Most promoters now find it impossible to put on grime
in clubs, because grime nights have been unofficially outlawed by the police.
Deja Vu FM, Rinse FM, Flex FM, Freeze FM, Axe FM were some of the first radio stations illegally
held up in high–rise flats in and around London town. which started to play the grime music. Rinse
FM now has a full licence, as do some of the others, but online radio stations are the way forward
now.
Grime began as a London based movement, yet rapidly keeps running into debate when various live
events were disturbed by rival groups and crews, authorizing issues or police interference. Violence
has regularly hidden out of sight, from unpredictable MC Crazy Titch getting imprisoned for murder
in 2005 at the height of his fame, to grime demonstrates getting kicked off the pirate radio station

Most of grime 's stars, come from deprived London boroughs like Hackney and Newham, where

one outside of the family has seen Tupac's dead body, other than the doctors, who could have easily
been paid off with Tupac's riches. These actions, both before and after the shooting, are strange and
point to the fact that Tupac Amaru Shakur is still alive. Other reports have been published that

A Day Filled With The Eyes Suddenly Popped Open
My eyes suddenly popped open. I looked to my right to see what time it was, 9:30 AM. "Perfect!" I
yelled. I jumped out of bed with a smile from cheek to cheek. I could not contain myself anymore. I
had been waiting for 25 days, and it was finally here! Today was Christmas, a day filled with lots of
food and mountains of presents! I ran downstairs as fast as I could, almost fell because I about
tripped. I rounded the corner and stood in awe. There before me, stood present after present after
present; each one wrapped in a different color, ranging in size, and bows mounted on top. There
must be close to 60 presents! Well, when you are rich, you can afford this. I dove straight in,
heading for the biggest present that I could find. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Africa. Who in their right mind would want to go there? I'm stuck for six days on a safari and two
more days to explore Tanzania. Why would I want to spend my time there? After spending 36 hours
on a congested airplane, my family and I landed in lovely Tanzania. My Mom asked me, "Aren't you
excited? This is going to be amazing. I cannot wait to see the sunrise, the sunset, zebras, giraffes,
lions, gazelles, elepha–" I tuned her out. I was tired of hearing about how stinking cool Africa was!
6 Days Later "That was the most boring thing ever. A waste of six days of my life." I told my family.
My sister quickly responded, "Oh, just shut up and be grateful! You are standing in one of the
poorest countries in the world, and you just went on an extremely expensive safari. Half of the
people in this country live below the poverty line. They struggle to put food on the table each and

I Love Children : A Life Of Poverty Or Wealth
"I love children. They are content with the least of things, gold and mud are the same in their eyes."

of their parents and under the roof of their house full of warmth and tenderness of their parents, a

Flavio's Home By Gordon Parks
Flavio's Home is a short essay written by Gordon Parks about a twelve year old boy and his family,
who live in severe poverty. Parks uses Flavio's Home to show the devastating effects from poverty
and how action needs to be taken to help those in need. Parks shows how he feels about poverty in
the opening sentence of the essay by stating, "I've never lost my fierce grudge against poverty. It is
the most savage of all human afflictions, claiming victims who cant mobilize their efforts against it,
who often lack strength to digest what little food they can scrounge up to survive"(Parks147). Parks
is right, poverty claims so many lives daily, many of those are children. There are so many people
who do not have enough food, inadequate access to clean drinking water and health ... Show more

They have no electricity and no water. The only furniture inside the shack was a broken crib and
bed, as for a toilet, the family used a large hole in the corner. Parks describes the home " Its grimy
walls were a patchwork of misshapen boards with large gaps between them, revealing other shacks
below stilted against the slopes. The floor, rotting under layer of grease and dirt, caught shafts of
light slanting down through spaces in the roof" (Parks148). They cook by using the top of an old gas
range that sits on bricks with a small fire underneath.
It is very clear throughout the story that Flavio tends to his younger brothers and sisters. Because the
family does not have the money for clothes, the children cannot attend school, so while their parents
are away, selling kerosene and bleach, Flavio cares for them. Flavio cooks for them, bathes them,
fetches their water, and wood for the fire. After Flavio returns from getting wood and water for the
family Parks states, "No longer smiling, he suddenly had the look of an old man and by now we

Our Supporting Role in Jacie's Life
Jacie was one of those people that make you feel like a supporting character in their life story. It was
not because she was trying to or made herself seem better or more important than everybody else,
but because she had this natural charisma and shine that followed her. It was an aura that drew
people to her like flies to a light source. She was a light source. A star wherever she went, and
whoever she was with by consequence became a supporting character. It wasn't her fault. She was
compelling, yet dangerous– as if anyone who dared to get close to her would be dissipated. I saw
this quality within her from the day we both met. The bells on the door sang as cherry red Doc
Martens sauntered shamelessly through the doors of Ellis's Convenience Store a Sunday night in
early November. They were accompanied by a pair of legs covered with black tights ripped like
zombie skin. I glanced up to see the owner of those boots. She was wearing a white men's button
down shirt as a dress. I wondered if it was her boyfriends, but then pushed the thought away. It
wasn't any business of mine anyway. The sleeves of the shirt were rolled up to just above her elbow
for the colorful stacks of beaded bracelets that adorned both of her arms. My stare was met by big
brown doe eyes smeared with eyeliner black as soot. I could tell she was around my age, and
definitely no more than seventeen. Her hair, which was a deep chocolate brown like her eyes, was

Creative Story : A Short Story
A shadow stepped out of a car. The force of the wind was so strong it knocked him down. When he
stumbled back to his feet, he brushed leaves from his hair then pushed forwards into the wind.
Around him, branches and loose twigs whipped into a frenzied vortex. A few yards along the lane,
he stopped. What was that noise? Out of the dark, a shape loomed towards him, getting larger the
closer it came. Just in time, he bent low as a barn roof flew over the top of his head. What the hell?
Harry Jewel cursed to himself. Behind him, he heard a crack. He turned to watch the roof tumble
over and over, then smash into his car. From there, it disintegrated into a thousand pieces, with loose
shards of wood flying over a hedge and into a neighbouring field. Well! What a wreck! He wouldn't
be able to use that car again, not that it mattered, since it never belonged to him in the first place.
When he escaped prison earlier that day, he stole a car and crunched its gears all the way to Seashell
Bay, and when he eventually reached the cave, his anger hit the roof. Who stole all his money? By
that time, he figured out who framed him up by planting the bomb in the boot of his car. And that
same person must have taken his money from the cave. None other than the indomitable Lord
Nicholas Fox. That la–di–da piece of shite. And now he was after revenge. So, he parked the stolen
car just off a woodland track then trudged his way along Copse Lane. His anger drove him forwards
through the wind.

DAAAAA DA DA DA DA DAAAAAAAA DA DA. I still remember the feeling in my stomach as I
watched the flashing chandelier rise to the ceiling right above my head. To think that I did not want

Grandparents 50th anniversary celebration... I sat in the corner observing my surroundings. A platter
of food in the center of the square room. People gathered in small groups chatting waiting for
dessert to come out. I am always stuck in the middle. I am too young to converse with the adults but
I am too old to run around with the kids. So I sat there taking everything in. Eventually I became fed
up with my isolation. I picked myself up and made my way over to where my mom was seated.
Even though I wasn't planning on socializing I would be content just listening to conversation. I was
tuned out for the most part, humming the tune of a pop song I had heard on the radio. I would catch
bits and pieces of what they were saying, but one hushed statement caught my attention. "I am really
looking forward to surprising her." My mom said. I don't know if she knew I was eavesdropping or
not. To be honest I felt guilty for listening, but I had nothing better to do,so I kept listening. "She
will love it!" "It's Right up her alley!" I heard all these words but didn't have enough context to

The Struggles Of Poverty In Gordon Parks's 'Flavio's Home'
"It keeps growing... spreading like cancer... human excrement clogged the open sewers...a large hole
in the far corner served as a toilet...The children ate with their fingers... desperate criminals hid out
there...long lines waited at the sole water spigot...others waited at the only toilet in the entire
mountainside...throughout the place came wailing of hunger and hurt..." poverty is everything but a
laughing matter (Parks). Photograph and writer, Gordon Parks, in his essay, "Flavio's Home" reveals
the struggles of families in poverty in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, highlighting a social–political concern
faces in many countries around the world. Parks' essay, originally published in Voices in the Mirror
during the 1990's, adopts an evocative tone in order to appeal to the incognizant rich to persuade
them to take action against the destitution of the citizens of Catacumba. Parks' purpose is to convey
the idea that those in penury are dying from disease and other harsh conditions, both of which are
preventable with awareness and funding. In "Flavio's Home", Parks describes the terrible conditions
that many families face in a shanty town called Catacumba, specifically focusing on one family
when he encounters a boy named Flavio in the streets. Parks concedes that Flavio takes care of the
family by cooking, cleaning, collecting water, and bathing his siblings while his parents are away.
He observes Flavio's frequent coughs throughout the day; his initial reaction is to flee, but he stays

Personal Narrative: Wells Fargo
In Iowa, the State Wrestling Tournament rules over all other state tournaments averaging about

Salvador Dali Essay
Salvador Dali
Salvador Dali, was born Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali i Domenech at 8:45 a.m., Monday, 11 May
1904, in the small town, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, of Figueres, Spain, approximately sixteen
miles from the French border in the principality of Catalonia. His parents supported his talent and
built him his first studio, while he was still a child, in their summer home. Dali went on to attend the
San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid, Spain, was married to Gala Eluard in 1934 and died
on 23 January 1989 in a hospital in the town he born. Dali did not limit himself to one particular
style or medium. Beginning with his early impressionistic work going into his surrealistic works, for

This contribution of his was an alternate manner in which to view or perceive reality. It was no new
concept; it could be traced back to Leonardo da Vinci and his practice of staring at stains on walls,
clouds, streams, etc. and seeing different figures in them. Everyone who goes cloud watching uses
this technique. Dali, however gave this method a different twist. Dali linked his paranoiac–critical
method, the ability to look at any object and see another, with paranoia, which was characterized
then by chronic delusions and hallucinations. Dali himself was not paranoid but was able to place
himself in paranoid states. In one of his more famous statements he said, "The only difference
between myself and a madman is that I am not mad." He was able to look at reality and dream of
new ideas and paint them, which he called his "hand–painted dream photographs." Through his
paranoiac–critical method, Dali was able to look at everyday objects and attach a subjective
meaning based on his obsessions, phobias and conflicts. The result was a new, imaginative visual
presentation of reality. By the forties, however, Dali began his move from Surrealism into what he
called his classic era. This is the area I will be focusing on in paper when discussing several of his
artworks.

Leonardo da Vinci Essay
Who would have thought that a rural boy would become one of the greatest minds of history? This
boy was born during the Italian Renaissance, a time of great rebirth and renewed interest in cultural
arts (Leonardo artist page 3). His name was Leonardo da Vinci, and he was born in April 15, 1452
(Leonardo artist page 9). Many would call Leonardo "a jack of all trades; master of none," yet
possibly he was a master of all (Leonardo artist page 4). He had achieved many talents and countless
accomplishments (page 4). A genius at heart, Leonardo had many jobs and careers: "a painter, a

Leaving Florence, Leonardo arrived in Milan in 1482 (Leonardo world ¶ 7–8). He became a court
artist for Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, often designing many mechanisms and even a sculpture
of the Duke (¶ 7–8). During Leonardo's stay in Milan, he painted Madonna of the Rocks and the
famous Last Supper (¶ 7–8). In 1499, the French overthrew Milan, and Leonardo left the city to
return to Florence (Leonardo world ¶ 9–11).
After many years in Milan, Leonardo had become respected and famous after his paintings in Milan,
inspiring a generation of artists (¶ 9–11). In Florence, a new hall was being built for the city council,
and the government hired Leonardo to paint the walls with victories from the city (¶ 9–11).
The Battle of Anghiari, painted by Leonardo da Vinci on a wall in a hallway built for the city
council, is only generally known in Leonardo's sketches (Leonardo world ¶ 12). During the creation
of The Battle of Anghiari, Leonardo used a different painting technique, causing the paint to run (¶

While painting The Battle of Anghiari, Leonardo started working on one of the most famous
paintings ever made, Mona Lisa (Leonardo world ¶ 12 and 31). Leonardo probably used the wife of

Descriptive Story Of Adeline
The sun's ebullient flares twisted to the ground, reflecting on the Michigan lake. A gentle breeze
ruffled through the grass, catching dandelions and releasing them to the sky The sun was shyly
peeking out from behind the mountain and painting the sky brilliant splotches of orange and pink.
The leaves fluttering in the air greeted the clouds. A gaping opening in the mountains led to a small
town, leading to a small house neatly tucked away beneath a Sequoia tree. The houses bricks were
painted a lovely shade of yellow. Flowers were planted in the beautifully manicured lawn. Adeline
awoke to the sun projecting through her large window with paisley curtains. She stretched out her

Covert : The Changing Face Of Racism
From Overt to Covert: The Changing Face of Racism in America Society at its very core is destined
to change,to be molded by the people that thrive within it. Over time, the values and beliefs of
culture and society are grown, fractured and altered. Social issues are abundant in every society,
their degree varying as the intensity of bigotry and prejudice do within any given community.
Countries like China, Italy, or Japan are very homogeneous in terms of ethnicity, language, and
culture. The American public is, on the other hand, often described as a melting pot of disparate
cultures, ethnicities, melanin densities, sizes, and beliefs. The country itself was founded on
immigration, and so the mingling of different ancestry is something that would only be expected.
Bigotry and prejudice were pressing and impassioned issues in the past, but a concerning pattern
forms once the fights are over. Once the disadvantaged make a step forward, once they are able to
get one hand up on the socioeconomic ladder, the people in power tend to see all the issues that they
have faced being solved, when in actuality the issues are deep and complex, unable to be "solved"
by any one particular event. Social issues run deeply, and the occurrence of a single victory does not
come even remotely close to solving any issue as a whole. Political and social issues often tend to be
oversimplified in order to allow the public to check a box on the issue during a voting period. This
tactic ends up making

Dizzee Rascal Analysis Of Grime
Politics: Estates / Urban Planning: Human societies occupy various regions of the earth, information
and encounters are traded within all of these societies, but humans do much more than trade
information; the space they are located in becomes part of a wider spatial order in which the people

Gangsta Rap Thesis
Greg Tate of the Encyclopedia Brittanica (insider for hip–hop music) stated best that "...the
romanticization of the outlaw at the centre of much of gangsta rap appealed to rebellious
suburbanites as well as to those who had firsthand experience of the harsh realities of the ghetto."
Here, Tate explains the true meaning behind the genre 'gangsta rap'. Though brutal and
straightforward, this music selection was an expression of freedom for those stuck in low–income
homes, poverty stricken neighborhoods, drug polluted streets, and gang filled high schools. Gangsta
rap not only proved to be an outlet from the 'ghettos' but it also altered the hip–hop sound. Gangsta
rap proved, in the early 80s and late 90s, to be the music that would alter the previous hip–hop
movement through narrative lyrics, hardcore beats, and realistic messages from the east and west
coasts. Gangsta rap is a genre of music that become very popular in the 1990s that reflected the

Analysis Of ' Flavio 's Home '
Paint a picture of poverty. What do you see and where does it take place? Is it in a city like New
York? Maybe it is at the dried out lands in the continent of Africa. Now, imagine it a hundred times
worse, with no proper housing, limited water and sewage system, and also lacking food and other
general necessities. You would get a picture of Catacumba, a favela in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro. Also,
this is where Gordon Parks met a particular boy, who would later become a symbol of poverty. In
his memoir "Flavio's Home", Gordon Parks delineates a vivid picture of poverty through his faithful
encounter of one of its denizen, Flavio, and his life in the favela. Parks' portrayal of poverty begins
as soon as he meets Flavio, a young boy who lives in the favela of Catacumba. When he first meets
him, the author describes his appearance to be miserably thin and lacking pieces of clothing but a
"filthy denim shorts". Parks also recounts that his "legs resembled sticks covered with skin and
screwed into his feet" pointing out the horribly mal–nutrient body of the poor boy. Furthermore, the
author says it tragically that "Death was all over him, in his sunken eyes, cheeks and jaundiced
coloring"(par.3) reminding again of Flavio's deteriorating physique. The sickly boy was also known
to carry "a tin of water on his head"(par.3), adding unto the physical burden he already had with his
body. Parks captures poverty through Flavio in that the readers can see the brutal physical

As a result of this crime, many relationships were established between the victims and numerous

A Temporary Matter. Essay
A Temporary Matter Husband and wife Shukumar and Shoba are notified that their electricity will
be turned off at 8:00PM for five evenings in a row in order to fix a power line. Shoba tells her
husband this news. He looks at her, noticing that her makeup has run from her time at the gym. He
reminisces about how she would look in the morning after a party in happier times. Shoba insists
that the electric company should work on the lines during the day. Shukumar takes slight offense at
this idea; since January, he has worked at home on his dissertation. The outages begin that evening.
Six months earlier, Shoba went into labor prematurely when Shukumar was attending a conference
out of town. Shukumar remembers the station wagon cab that took ... Show more content on

When the child died, she did not know if they had lost a son or daughter. Shoba took refuge in that
mystery, spared of that knowledge. When Shukumar arrived at the hospital, Shoba was asleep. The
doctor suggested he hold the child before it was cremated in order to begin the grieving process.
Shukumar recoiled, but then agreed. He tells Shoba that he held their son. He describes what the
child looked like, how his fingers were curled just as hers curl in the night. Shukumar takes their
plates to the sink, leaving Shoba alone in the living room. He watches their neighbors walk arm in
arm and the lights suddenly go out. He turns to find Shoba at the light switch. They sit together and
weep for their new knowledge. When Mr. Pirzada Came To Dine In the autumn of 1971, Mr. Pirzada
comes to Lilia's house to dine each night. Mr. Pirzada is from Dacca, then a part of Pakistan. He left
behind his wife and seven daughters for a fellowship to study the foliage of New England. Since his
fellowship provided for only a meager dorm room, he comes to Lilia's home to eat with her parents
and to watch the news of the Indo–Pakistan War. Dacca had been invaded by the Pakistani army and
torched and shelled. Thousands of people were tortured or killed. Although Mr. Pirzada writes a
letter to his family each week, he had not heard from them in six months. Lilia is 10 years old, living
with her parents near a university north of Boston. Her parents, originally from India,

Louisa May Alcott Little Women
¨Human behavior flows from three main sources: desire, emotion, and knowledge" (Plato). Some
people believe people do things only for personal rewards. Although, the reason people help others
is they want to. The most important factor in why people choose to do something is the desire to
help others. People choose to do something nice when they yearn to do it and people choose to be
selfish when they have the wish to only care about themselves and not others. In "Little Women", by
Louisa May Alcott, the March family's desire is to help the Hummels, a poor, homeless, immigrant
family who is starving and freezing. When the March family brought supplies to the family in need,
they started a fire and fixed up the little room for the family. Mrs. March gave the mother tea and

Engel–kinder!' cried the poor things as they ate and warmed their purple hands at the comfortable
blaze. The girls had never been called angel children before, and thought it very agreeable" (Alcott
para. 44). The Hummels were very grateful for everything the March family did for them. The
March family felt so accomplished and happy that they got to help the poor Hummels. After helping

Analysis Of Do The Right Thing
In spite of the fact that Do the Right Thing and Jungle Fever are both associated with social and
political issues, they tend to navigate through various racial viewpoints using different cinematic
elements. Spike Lee uses a variety of techniques in his film to bring awareness to events occurring
in today's society. For example Do the Right Thing, is a film that tackles down the social issue of
prejudice as well as the controversial issues between Italian–Americans and African Americans in
New York City. The whole movie unravels around the "Wall of Fame" located inside Sal's Pizzeria,
which only features Italian actors. One day a local customer name Bugging Out, demands to have
black actors, since after all the pizzeria is located within a black neighborhood. Soon enough the
"Wall of Fame" becomes a symbolic representation of racism and hate which leads to a riot
involving an explicit scene of police brutality. On the other hand Jungle Fever, tends to emphasise
on the subject of interracial couples, as well as the controversy between Italian–Americans and
African Americans and of course the usage of drugs. The movie is based on Flipper, an African
American architect who has an affair with his secretary Angie, who is an Italian–American. The
climax of the movie occurs when Flipper's wife Drew, finds out about the affair and from then on
society begins to reject Flipper and Angie because of social norms. Forcing them into a corner
where they later learn that they were driven

Creative Writing: The Lazy Susan
Rai Washington watched his target from across the street as the man leaned against the wall of the
bodega, opened the cylinder of his revolver and slapped it shut giving it a spin like he had obviously
seen done in the movies. He was lucky the Saturday Night Special didn't fall apart from the force of
that alone. Actually, he would be lucky if the cheap .32 caliber malfunctioned when he pulled the
trigger. More than half the time the damn things exploded and injured the shooter. He was clearly
high since he appeared to be about to rob a store that had bulletproof, three–inch–thick Plexiglas
everywhere. The Lazy Susan, where you put your money I and received your purchase, didn't allow

either, and the DA wouldn't question the store owner's right to defend his property. If Parker
survived, he would do a stretch on Rikers Island which would only make him more bitter, less
employable, and a little bit smarter about how to be a Dumbass criminal. "Sorry, my brother, not
tonight," he said as he took the .32 caliber from his hand and looked at it. "Just as I thought, might
as well be made of plastic." He pocketed the revolver and cast a levitation spell on his new acolyte.
The spell only reduced drag on the sidewalk, and tethered parker to Rai's side. To all outward
appearance, the two would seem to be walking side by side. As they descended the steps to the
basement, Rai felt some resistance to the spell. "Well, aren't we full of surprises. Got a little bit of

Stereotypes In Hip Hop And Hollywood Film

  • 1. Stereotypes In Hip Hop And Hollywood Film Over the past 20 years hip hop and Hollywood cinema have steadily maintained and produced cliché and stereotypical images of hyper sexuality, violence, and the inequality of African American roles within hip hop and Hollywood cinema. I believe that hip hop artists as well as Hollywood have still maintained these clichés and stereotypes, instead of focusing on dissolving them, and creating an equal basis of hip hop and Hollywood cinema, where white people and black people are looked upon as the same and equal. Through the years Hip Hop has garnered a wide basis of followers. Since its appearance in the 1970s, Hip Hop has kept the same themes, styles, and language without much deflection towards a more equal base and less racially charged genre. ... Focused in a dystopian future; a man named Eli, played by actor Denzel Washington is trekking across the united states to the ocean, where he believes his destiny must take him (brothers). On his journey he comes across violence, horror, and misjudgment. But he overcomes and arrives at his destination successful. This is a rare film being that it focuses almost solely on a Black protagonists and makes him dominant, smart, and able to overcome any hindrance. This is a great example of how Hollywood took Hip Hop's rally on attempting to make its Black characters central to the story and able to triumph over all trials and stipulations. Though few in numbers, this movie shows how today, there is beginning to emerge, the equality that is needed to make colors disappear and humans look at each other as people not as groups and ... The floor had become faded from foot traffic, and long scratches and scrapes from past boots and shoes covered it in various spots. The walls, if they could even be called that, had large holes from previous scuffles and rounds. Not one window covered any of the walls making whoever entered feel trapped; as though once entered, a job must be done before exiting. The few lights that strung from the ceiling projected a dim light, and one over the bar produced a steady flickering that made the room seem even more like a cell. The bar was cluttered and messed with shot glasses and beer bottles, most of which that dripped onto the surface of the counter. Carvings surrounded the bar; produced by previous customers and drunkies. Behind the bar stood the bartender, a short, stocky, middle–aged man who wore a deep frown just below his handlebar mustache. Just one look at the man, one could see a great loneliness beneath the hardened exterior of the man. It seemed almost as though he had lost something very dear to him, yet it was hard to tell what. The Human Eye Is A Perfect Well Designed Optical System Abstract According to the report for the 2012 National Health Interview Survey, at least 1.5 million Americans weakened their vision due to use of technology. However, thanks to advanced technology and innovation people can choose between glasses and contacts as a therapy for improving their eyesight. Contact lenses have become the fastest progressing medical devices in optometry and have seen a number of significant improvements and developments since its existence (Schaeffer, 2011). According to Centers For Disease Control And Prevention, the first plastic contact lenses were produced between 1938–1940 in the United States and the first soft lenses came later in the 70s. First day of school was right around the corner and as I was getting ready for it questions kept circulating in my mind. What would my friends think? I was the only one with glasses. How would I play sports with glasses? Would I still get invited to birthday parties? Will boys like me? Some of my friends thought my glasses were cool, but deep inside I knew they were just trying to make me feel good. I still got invited to the parties, but boys did not like me. But all of that did not bother me as much. What bothered me the most is that I could not play sports with my glasses. They kept slipping from my nose or falling off my face on the ground whenever I tried jumping or doing cartwheels. I thought my life would never be the same. ¬ Loss of vision can happen at any age, even at birth, it is not only geriatric condition. With increased use of technology people's eyesight gets worse causing eyestrain, loss of vision and other problems. More than 30 million people in the U.S. wear contact lenses due to eye conditions such as myopia, hyperopia, keratoconus, astigmatism, or presbyopia (Ţălu et al., 2011). Though contact lenses seem to be a recent phenomenon, the famous Italian architect, mathematician and inventor Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) produced the first known sketches for it five hundred years ago (Siviglia, 2010). Alfonso Capone was born on January 17, 1899, in Brooklyn, New York. Capone's parents were immigrants from Italy and earned a low income. Capone and his family lived in a disorderly, poor neighborhood. It is clear to see that the Capone family struggled to make a living when Diane Yancey stated, "In the Capone apartment, heat came from two stoves...a pipe in the hallway supplied cold water, and a small shack in the backyard served as a communal toilet" (13). Despite the rough living conditions, Capone's parents managed to keep Capone and his siblings healthy. Education was never a big priority for Capone. Schools were dull and teachers demanded compliance and would use physical force to achieve it when necessary. Capone did not like this treatment and therefore began to rebel against education, even though he was a relatively good student. Capone even got in a fist fight with a teacher. Capone's teachers described him as, "a child who was rebellious and inclined to fight" (Yancey 15). The older Capone got, the more he favored skipping school. At the age of fourteen Capone dropped out of school and got a job to help support his family. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are thousands of folktales and fairy tales that are firmly rooted in individual cultures, yet the tale of Cinderella has been told through many centuries and throughout the far corners of the world. With thousands of versions of this classic tale in print worldwide, the tale is believed to have originated with the story of Rhodopis, a Greek slave girl who is married to an Egyptian King. The story of Rhodopis, which means rosy–cheeks, dates back to 7 BC and is attributed to a Greek geographer named Strabo. The Chinese variation of this fairy tale is named Yeh–hsien. The Chinese version is traceable to the year 860 and appears in Miscellaneous Morsels from Youyang by Duan Chengshi. Yeh–hsien is a young girl, motherless and in the control of her stepmother, who befriends a treasured fish. The jealous step–mother kills the fish, but it's bones provide Yeh–hsien with magical powers, eventually enabling Yeh–hsien to escape the control of her step–mother for a royal life. The Story of the Black Cow which is found within the pages of Folk Tales from the Himalayas by John Murray, published in 1906, the child who is mistreated by a stepmother is a male and the role of savior is portrayed by a snake, with a cow serving as the moral of the story, faithfulness. • 13. The Era Of The Renaissance Italy can be looked at as the home of the renaissance and consequently the immergence of great art. Artists such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, Da Vinci, and Raphael are some of the greats and are looked at for standards. But what about the artists whose lives are mysteries, and their works that were influenced by the greats? These artists hold just as much importance in the history of art as do the artist's whose names can be recalled off the top of an average person's head. During the sixteenth century things began to change in the art world, and that change was the Baroque. This new style of art brought a revolution to how subject matter was painted, it brought upon "... a radical reconsideration of art and its purposes..." (249) and how artists of all ranks could learn to paint the up and coming style of Baroque. Renaissance art created standards and principles that every painting and artist had to utilize in order to even be considered good, let alone great. Characteristics such as the phenomenon of natural light, one–point and linear perspective, and highly idealized religious or mythological figures changed into the Baroque techniques of manipulating light to create emphasis, dramatizing the illustrated allegory, and unidealized realism. Additionally, "... the Baroque trend dominated and gave its name to the age... [but it was the presence of both styles] that give the Italian seventeenth century its richness and diversity." • 15. Comparing The Future In Harrison Bergeron And Old Glory Adding futuristic details in stories can be a great way to help develop a plot and establish a theme. The genre of science fiction uses this principle to convey a message to the reader, but at the same time, keeping the story interesting and exciting enough to continue reading. Both Bruce Coville (author of "Old Glory") and Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. (author of "Harrison Bergeron") use the setting of the future to develop the themes of their stories in similar ways and in different ways. First off, both authors use the uncertainty of the future to make their themes more believable. Contrary to being set in the present, most readers do not have a clear view of what is plausible in the future, which makes the theme more believable for readers. This can be clearly seen in this quote taken from "Old Glory", "Everyone knows that even though the new law allows for instant executions, the Shoot‐On‐Sight men are supposed to give a guy a chance. But Gran–Da didn't care. When his first match went out, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... doesn't do as often. Whether it be freedom of speech or right to a fair trial, Coville depicts a world where those ideas are no longer valid in society. What kind of world would that be?", and "When I was a boy this piece of cloth used to stand for something. Yes, it did. In fact, it stood for a whole lot of things. Ideas. Like that a man should be free to say what he thinks, and worship where he wants, and get together with other folks when it pleases him. But not any more." Police Brutality In Brazil Essay You're walking home late at night and a police officer keeps on giving you weird looks, deciding that fear was your best friend at the moment you pushed yourself to walk because you didn't want to end up like one of the people you see dead on the news or in the street. Over the past 10 years, violent killings caused my police officers decreased before it started to slowly rise during the start of 2016. From the months January to March, there were approximately 322 civilians killed from interventions of police officers. Brazil is the world's most dangerous city to live in. Officers use excessive force even though it is not needed most times. Robert Muggah from the Guardian states, "A 2014 Stanford–University–led survey of Rio's military police officers found that many experienced high levels of violence during childhood." According to the study explained above it was shown that approximately twenty five percent of the military and police officers in Rio were victims of a some type of violent assault at a young age, and another thirty two state that they have witnessed a close friend or family being murdered. Going off of this statement it can be shown that being exposed to high levels of violence at a young age can affect that particular individual. Exposure to violence is just one of the several details that make up the aspect of police brutality. Another detail that ties into the factor of police brutality can be interpreted as the lack of morality. Police officers in Brazil either get their pay late or not at all, because of this, police officers can begin to lack the necessary feelings to care about what the job they are doing. Being paid late and most times lower amounts than usual brings up the next topic that comes up in a couple of minutes. Based on the article written by Mr. Robert Muggah, it was stated that lowering the amount of money that police officers are being paid and switching the times that they are supposed to be paid, lowers their ... Whether it is through myths – Greek, Roman, Egyptian, you pick – or wives tales or even Grandpa telling his old war stories, stories have power. Through technological advancements in the last 150+ years, there are multiple mediums to tell stories; film being the most potent medium used. Film has the power to not only entertain but enlighten too. Filmmakers have the ability to challenge and manipulate the power of the story through creative resistance; by exploring other elements of storytelling: location, voice, color, angles, rhythm, language, filmmakers can create dramatically different films out of the same story. Many of these filmmakers, through the feminist movement, have taken Hollywood by storm. My love for Camden football began at a young age, from sitting with my parents at every game, to the monumental moment of finally being able to sit with my friends in the middle school section. Then the years of dreams of being able to dit in the rowdy student section came true during the High School years. The painting itself is 8 feet tall by 16 feet wide.1 The Horse Fair is located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.1 Bonheur uses a panoramic view in her painting.2 The Horse Fair was inspired by the horse market that Rosa Bonheur use to visit on Boulevard De l'Ho ̂pital.1 The building in the upper far left of the painting is called Asylum on Salpetriere, which is located in Paris.3 The people on the hill in the ... Naturalism in art is both a style and a theory of accurate representation of details in demonstrating an object or living thing.2 For example, to portray an animal anatomically correctly, one needs to see the animals from the inside out. Similar to Leonardo Da Vinci, Bonheur would dissect the animal to understand the anatomy.1 Unlike Da Vinci, Bonheur strictly dissected animals. Being anatomically correct is a huge key in making a piece of work realistic. The purpose of explaining her work is to prove that Rosa Bonheur displays naturalism through her painting. Rosa Bonheur used many structural elements in creating The Horse Fair; in addition to Bonheur's anatomical accuracy, she used chiaroscuro, and color to display naturalism. Bonheur uses ... A few yards along the lane, he stopped. What was that noise? Out of the dark, a shape loomed towards him, getting larger the closer it came. To think that I did not want to be there in the first place. Boy had my mom proved me wrong. It had all started at my Grandparents 50th anniversary celebration... I sat in the corner observing my surroundings. A platter of food in the center of the square room. People gathered in small groups chatting waiting for dessert to come out. I am always stuck in the middle. I am too young to converse with the adults but I am too old to run around with the kids. So I sat there taking everything in. Eventually I became fed up with my isolation. I picked myself up and made my way over to where my mom was seated. Even though I wasn't planning on socializing I would be content just listening to conversation. I was tuned out for the most part, humming the tune of a pop song I had heard on the radio. I would catch bits and pieces of what they were saying, but one hushed statement caught my attention. "I am really looking forward to surprising her." My mom said. I don't know if she knew I was eavesdropping or not. To be honest I felt guilty for listening, but I had nothing better to do,so I kept listening. "She will love it!" "It's Right up her alley!" I heard all these words but didn't have enough context to know what they were talking about. I stopped deciphering them and tuned back out. I was almost done slipping into my solitude ... The Struggles Of Poverty In Gordon Parks's 'Flavio's Home' "It keeps growing... spreading like cancer... human excrement clogged the open sewers...a large hole in the far corner served as a toilet...The children ate with their fingers... desperate criminals hid out there...long lines waited at the sole water spigot...others waited at the only toilet in the entire mountainside...throughout the place came wailing of hunger and hurt..." poverty is everything but a laughing matter (Parks). Photograph and writer, Gordon Parks, in his essay, "Flavio's Home" reveals the struggles of families in poverty in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, highlighting a social–political concern faces in many countries around the world. Parks' essay, originally published in Voices in the Mirror during the 1990's, adopts an evocative tone in order to appeal to the incognizant rich to persuade them to take action against the destitution of the citizens of Catacumba. Parks' purpose is to convey the idea that those in penury are dying from disease and other harsh conditions, both of which are preventable with awareness and funding. In "Flavio's Home", Parks describes the terrible conditions that many families face in a shanty town called Catacumba, specifically focusing on one family when he encounters a boy named Flavio in the streets. Parks concedes that Flavio takes care of the family by cooking, cleaning, collecting water, and bathing his siblings while his parents are away. He observes Flavio's frequent coughs throughout the day; his initial reaction is to flee, but he stays ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But as Jake walked in front of us back into the depths of Wells Fargo, he looked up at his supporting fans and gave us one final fist bump and a classic Jake Voss smile. All the devastation and anger left my body and was replaced with pride. Most wrestlers would have hung their heads and cried after a loss like that, but not my brother. Salvador Dali Essay Salvador Dali Salvador Dali, was born Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali i Domenech at 8:45 a.m., Monday, 11 May 1904, in the small town, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, of Figueres, Spain, approximately sixteen miles from the French border in the principality of Catalonia. His parents supported his talent and built him his first studio, while he was still a child, in their summer home. Dali went on to attend the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid, Spain, was married to Gala Eluard in 1934 and died on 23 January 1989 in a hospital in the town he born. It was no new concept; it could be traced back to Leonardo da Vinci and his practice of staring at stains on walls, clouds, streams, etc. and seeing different figures in them. Everyone who goes cloud watching uses this technique. Dali, however gave this method a different twist. Dali linked his paranoiac–critical method, the ability to look at any object and see another, with paranoia, which was characterized then by chronic delusions and hallucinations. Dali himself was not paranoid but was able to place himself in paranoid states. In one of his more famous statements he said, "The only difference between myself and a madman is that I am not mad." He was able to look at reality and dream of new ideas and paint them, which he called his "hand–painted dream photographs." Through his paranoiac–critical method, Dali was able to look at everyday objects and attach a subjective meaning based on his obsessions, phobias and conflicts. The result was a new, imaginative visual presentation of reality. By the forties, however, Dali began his move from Surrealism into what he called his classic era. This is the area I will be focusing on in paper when discussing several of his artworks. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A gentle breeze ruffled through the grass, catching dandelions and releasing them to the sky The sun was shyly peeking out from behind the mountain and painting the sky brilliant splotches of orange and pink. The leaves fluttering in the air greeted the clouds. A gaping opening in the mountains led to a small town, leading to a small house neatly tucked away beneath a Sequoia tree. The houses bricks were painted a lovely shade of yellow. Flowers were planted in the beautifully manicured lawn. Adeline awoke to the sun projecting through her large window with paisley curtains. She stretched out her arms and glided to the window. Adeline was enthralled by the sky draped in staggering colors. Her red alarm clock interrupted the magnificent view. • 59. Covert : The Changing Face Of Racism From Overt to Covert: The Changing Face of Racism in America Society at its very core is destined to change,to be molded by the people that thrive within it. Over time, the values and beliefs of culture and society are grown, fractured and altered. Social issues are abundant in every society, their degree varying as the intensity of bigotry and prejudice do within any given community. Countries like China, Italy, or Japan are very homogeneous in terms of ethnicity, language, and culture. The American public is, on the other hand, often described as a melting pot of disparate cultures, ethnicities, melanin densities, sizes, and beliefs. The country itself was founded on immigration, and so the mingling of different ancestry is something that would only be expected. Bigotry and prejudice were pressing and impassioned issues in the past, but a concerning pattern forms once the fights are over. Once the disadvantaged make a step forward, once they are able to get one hand up on the socioeconomic ladder, the people in power tend to see all the issues that they have faced being solved, when in actuality the issues are deep and complex, unable to be "solved" by any one particular event. Social issues run deeply, and the occurrence of a single victory does not come even remotely close to solving any issue as a whole. Political and social issues often tend to be oversimplified in order to allow the public to check a box on the issue during a voting period. This tactic ends up making ... Gangsta Rap Thesis Greg Tate of the Encyclopedia Brittanica (insider for hip–hop music) stated best that "...the romanticization of the outlaw at the centre of much of gangsta rap appealed to rebellious suburbanites as well as to those who had firsthand experience of the harsh realities of the ghetto." Here, Tate explains the true meaning behind the genre 'gangsta rap'. Though brutal and straightforward, this music selection was an expression of freedom for those stuck in low–income homes, poverty stricken neighborhoods, drug polluted streets, and gang filled high schools. Gangsta rap not only proved to be an outlet from the 'ghettos' but it also altered the hip–hop sound. Gangsta rap proved, in the early 80s and late 90s, to be the music that would alter the previous hip–hop movement through narrative lyrics, hardcore beats, and realistic messages from the east and west coasts. Maybe it is at the dried out lands in the continent of Africa. Now, imagine it a hundred times worse, with no proper housing, limited water and sewage system, and also lacking food and other general necessities. You would get a picture of Catacumba, a favela in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro. Also, this is where Gordon Parks met a particular boy, who would later become a symbol of poverty. In his memoir "Flavio's Home", Gordon Parks delineates a vivid picture of poverty through his faithful encounter of one of its denizen, Flavio, and his life in the favela. Parks' portrayal of poverty begins as soon as he meets Flavio, a young boy who lives in the favela of Catacumba. When he first meets him, the author describes his appearance to be miserably thin and lacking pieces of clothing but a "filthy denim shorts". Parks also recounts that his "legs resembled sticks covered with skin and screwed into his feet" pointing out the horribly mal–nutrient body of the poor boy. Furthermore, the author says it tragically that "Death was all over him, in his sunken eyes, cheeks and jaundiced coloring"(par.3) reminding again of Flavio's deteriorating physique. The sickly boy was also known to carry "a tin of water on his head"(par.3), adding unto the physical burden he already had with his body. Analysis Of Do The Right Thing In spite of the fact that Do the Right Thing and Jungle Fever are both associated with social and political issues, they tend to navigate through various racial viewpoints using different cinematic elements. Spike Lee uses a variety of techniques in his film to bring awareness to events occurring in today's society. For example Do the Right Thing, is a film that tackles down the social issue of prejudice as well as the controversial issues between Italian–Americans and African Americans in New York City.
