Stephen Hawking was a renowned theoretical physicist and cosmologist born in 1942 who was diagnosed with ALS at a young age. He married his first wife, Jane Wilde, in 1965 and she cared for him as his disease progressed while they had three children together. Though dependent on a computer to communicate, Hawking had a highly successful career researching theoretical physics and cosmology and traveling the world to lecture. He and Jane divorced in 1990 after he had grown close to one of his nurses.
