Parse was a bold offering in the burgeoning space of Backend-as-a-Service, and we’re sorry to see them wind down. If your application runs on Parse you’ll need to migrate your data from from the hosted service to your own database. Fortunately, MongoDB Cloud Manager makes running your own deployment easy. In this webinar we’ll use Cloud Manager to create and manage a new replica set, and detail the steps required to migrate from the Parse platform to your own deployment of MongoDB on Amazon Web Services.

At Capital One, we are using Docker and container technologies to advance microservices adoption, increase efficiencies of cloud resources, and decouple the application layer from the underlying infrastructure. Capital One is a federated organization with a “you build it, you own it” culture that provides autonomy and speed for delivery teams. Each federated team runs and operates their container management stack. In order for the federated teams to accelerate their cloud and container-based apps adoption, we created self-service automation tools for creation and operations management of container management stack. In this session, we explore our push-button automation tool that includes capabilities such as the creation and management of Amazon ECS clusters, an Application Load Balancer for dynamic and context-based routing and provides a user interface via a Jenkins Job or a AWS Lambda function. Our tooling also includes a home-grown dynamic service discovery and routing for applications requiring two-way mutual SSL authentication. We talk through how Capital One regularly updates AMIs with the latest patches and software versions using an automated solution that leverages AWS Lambda to rehydrate the Amazon ECS compute cluster with the latest AMI without causing any downtime. We also discuss how we created a sophisticated canary deployment automation using AWS Lambda and application services, where users can specify how to migrate to a new version of containerized apps and manage the deployment. AWS empowers enterprise Docker deployment with Amazon ECS and an ecosystem of cloud services and serverless architectures, making containerization in mission-critical environments easier than ever.

We discuss DynamoDB key concepts, evaluation criteria, data modeling in DynamoDB, how to move data into DynamoDB, and data migration key considerations. We share a case study of Samsung Electronics, which migrated their Cassandra cluster to DynamoDB for their Samsung Cloud workload.

In this presentation we walk through features of Spring Cloud Gateway and Spring Cloud Config projects, overview new features provided by Spring Cloud Gateway including advanced routing options for API services supporting parallel APIs in several versions, discuss code examples and configuration options. Once API gateway is deployed, we don’t want to redeploy it on configuration changes as well as redeploy other services upon configuration updates. And this is where Spring Cloud Config enters the game. It allows us to keep configurations in the cloud, for example in a Git repository, and once paired with tools necessary, enables almost zero-down-time configuration updates, audit of changes and parallel configurations for different environments.

Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management. The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes.
