Step Guideline Of A German Shepherd
The German shepherd is a very upright dog breed with outstanding working capabilities. These dogs
are able to perform long hours of physical exercise without portraying signals of excessive fatigue.
They are mostly used as guard dogs, police dogs, therapy dogs and also search and rescue dogs.
This breed is also one of the most admirable family pet dogs simply due to its variety of adorable
traits. However, owning a German Shepherd Dog comes along with a huge obligation to train it. It is
paramount that the owner shall at least demonstrate basic obedience with their dog.
A fact we all need to acknowledge is that German Shepherds are quite huge and strong dogs and you
do not want it to drag you when you take it for a walk around the block. You ... Show more content

The chief purpose of leash training your dog is to stop them from pulling on the leash as it not only
makes the whole idea of walking a dog disappointing but also encourages the unpleasant behaviors
he has. Generally, it's far easier to leash train a puppy than an older dog but it can be done in both
cases, the latter demanding a little more patience. Below is a comprehensive step by step guideline
towards a successful German shepherd leash training.
1. Choose the correct collar
Leash training German shepherd dog should begin with selecting an appropriate collar and placing it
onto your dog's neck. Be sure to purchase a standard leather collar that is not too tight as we don't
intend to hurt or strangle them. Next, try wearing it while the dog is absent–minded; maybe playing
with one of his toys or eats. Allow him to get used to it and don't relieve him even if he tries to
scratch it off or dislodge it. Instead, wait until he forgets about it and then take it off.
2. Let the Dog get used to the leash
Next, attach a leash to the collar and allow your dog to run freely with it around the house. The dog
needs to comprehend the fact that there is an unfamiliar item attached to his neck and he cannot do
any much about

Sense Of Smell
Everything You Need To Know About Your Dog's Sense of Smell
One of the distinct characteristics of dogs is their powerful sense of smell. That is what makes them
extraordinarily special. However, when you go out for a jog or a walk with your dog, sometimes you
encounter some conflicts because your dog tends to sniff in a direction where you might be probably
going in the opposite direction. So, what is it about their sense of smell? What makes them rely
mostly on their sense of smell rather than be like humans who mostly make use of their sense of
sight?
Just by sniffing, they become aware of what kind of things there are and where they are located. At
the same time, they are able to determine if there is perfect mate just on the other ... Show more

Dogs are able to recall objects, people, or situation just by using their sense of smell. Although we
also sometimes associate a particular scent with a certain person or event, dogs mostly rely on their
sense of smell which allows them to determine so many things around them. Imprinting odor is their
way learning how to identify human remains, bombs, or narcotics which could take us hours or days
before we could be able to find out for ourselves. Dogs are trained to search for these. And of
course, no training can be as successful without any doggie treat after every successful task.
Interesting Facts and Truths
More than just cuddly little creatures, your dog's sense of smell works wonders. Here are some
facts:
Dogs have the ability to detect cancer in its initial stage. Although scientists have proven that cancer
can have a distinguishing smell that can be detected by humans, it is only during the later stage of
cancer that it is possible.
No matter how often humans clean themselves, for dogs, humans stink.
A very amazing fact that dogs do is being able to smell the blood glucose level of their owner. Just
like in the case of Claire Moon who owns a medical detection dog that lets her know when her
blood sugar level drops to 4.5 on the scale.
A dog is able to smell invisible things. We shed dead skin every so often that it just falls off to the
ground without us

A Dog Is The Only Thing On Earth
"A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself." This quote by Josh
Billings gives the image of how powerful the bond between human and dog is great. One profession
show this tremendously and that is the K–9 Officer. The K9 Officer is part of the criminal justice
system and works with many different department within the system. They are seen with the FBI,
working with local riot control and even with the military police. They are a major part and are
animal caretakers. They work extremely close with their partner, the canine. The canine is also an
officer with the ranks of other law enforcers. The feelings of the handler and the canine has to be
equal or the relationship and teamwork on the job will not work out and harm them. This career
truly show the bond between man and man's best friend. The reason this career was created to have
the dogs helps the police solve cases and maintain order with the people. The dog has been working
alongside mankind since about 15,000 years ago with they were first domesticated. The first true
police dog that is seen today did not come until 1888. Sir Charles Warren, the commissioner of the
metropolitan police of London, was the first person to have train dogs to help track down a killer
known as Jack the Ripper. The results from this was not what he and the people of the city was
hoping to happen. Both dogs ran off and had to to seen police searches to find them. This started the

9/11: A Brief Summary
1992 – 2006 The first tower to collapse from the 9/11 attack was the South Tower. 15 minutes after
the attack Apollo was the first to arrive. Apollo would be at the scene working several weeks, 18
hours a day. He would be assisting the injured victims and searching for any possible human
remains. While doing his job there was one point where he was almost killed by falling rubble and
fire. Every day he was given baths to wash off the dangerous contaminants at the scene. While he
was there he loved to search, he had so much energy and was very enthusiastic. While he was doing

When Sirius and his owner David Lim arrived scene, they went into the South Tower to perform a

this David thought that they missed an explosive in the north tower. David decided that he would
rush over there and help everyone, but before he left he locked Sirius in his kennel and told him he
would be back. With those words, David Lim ran to the North Towers 44th floor. When he got up
there the South Tower collapsed, so he immediately started going back down. He reached the 4th
floor before he found a group trying to save someone, so he decided he would join in. While they
were helping, the North Tower collapsed but luckily they survived and got out after 5 hours. When
David got out he kept crying out for Sirius, but there was no sign of him because he was in the

Stray Animals From Jackson County
Stray Animals in Jackson County As you drive through the curvy roads here in Jackson County, you
experience many things, such as the sharp curves, random pot holes, and of course you can't forget
about the dead animals or starving strays you pass every now and then. Stray animals are an issue
most everywhere in the U.S, Jackson County is no different than anywhere else in that sense. What
really makes us different is the fact that we have all of these pitiful stray animals that are starving
and freezing, some even being ran over, and we choose to ignore the problem. Some people in the
community may say there's nothing we can do other than ignoring the issue. I see otherwise,
although it may not be possible to solve this problem completely, there are still some possible
solutions. For example, one of the possible solutions for this issue could be to add an animal shelter,
or an animal rescue center somewhere within the community or county. Adding an animal shelter, or
animal rescue center would open up a temporary source of food and shelter for these stray animals
within the community. According to ASPCA "More than 35% of cats are acquired as strays." ("Pet
Statistics.") That means at least 35% of cats found are strays. That 35% were probably wandering
around in search of food and shelter. Even closer to home, the temperatures in the late months of the

They are also very obedient which means that you can teach them things without half trying to. In
fact, if you repeat something a couple of times that is all that is usually required. Because they are

By nature they are very devoted to their owners and doing anything that will shake their faith in you
will make them unnecessarily aggressive and ill tempered. An ill tempered German Shepherd is very
difficult to control which is the reason why you will find so many dogs, little more than pups, at the

As working dogs, German Shepherds are direct, fearless, eager to learn, alert and obedient. These
traits also translate to a fantastic pet as they will be tremendously loyal and protective towards their

Advantages And Effects Of Refugee Refugees
Refugee warriors are citizens of one state who crossed the border as a refugee and live in in a
neighboring country. Citizens live in camps on the borders of the state that they were born. In the
camps the refugees live in the refugee warriors conduct war against the regime that is in power or
control. Sometimes we feel sympathy for what they do and in other instances we may disapprove.
Whether we approve or disapprove their actions they are refugee warriors and if they have and if
they flee from their home and live in neighboring countries like refugee communities and start
attacks against the regime that is in power in their home from bases in the neighboring countries.
There are conditions in being a refugee warrior and to be a member a person's parents or
grandparents fled from a region in their place of origin and secondly the person uses violence to
remove the regime that is in control. The base for carrying on the conflict is placed in refugee
communities in neighboring countries. Refugee warriors weaken the regime in their home country
and their host state but that doesn't mean that refugee warriors are bad because free their own people
from persecution.

Some disabled people feel very disconnected from normal people, but a service dog helps them
overcome that, and also become more independent. "Service dogs seem to positively influence
socialization and community participation in a variety of environments. Two studies observed
partnerships in natural environments (Eddy et al., 1988; Mader et al., 1989) and reported that
community members smiled and conversed with children and adults with service dogs more than
children and adults without service dogs, and community members did not avoid the person with a
disability as much when a service dog was present" (Winkle, Crowe, and Hendrix 57). Service dogs
allow disabled people to do more things on their own, with the help of the dog, and feel like they do
not have to rely on other people to help them as much. In addition, when a disabled person has a
service dog, they have a companion that is by their side throughout the day, boosting their
confidence. Presnall writes: "Jennifer had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of
sixteen... 'I felt kind of repulsive and unlovable in that wheelchair,' [Jennifer] says. 'But I knew a
service dog would look at me and just think I was cool' " (8). More evidence of this is proven with
the bond between David, a man who had both of his legs amputated above his knees, and his dog

through several lives trying to find his purpose. During each life he fulfills his purpose, once as a pet
for a boy, a search and rescue dog, and other lives as a dog helping and changing people's lives.
Everything has a purpose in life. However, it is what you do to fulfill that purpose that makes you a
good person. The dog starts off as a stray mutt named Toby. After growing up a stray, he is taken by
a woman where he is placed in a pen; with approximately twenty other dogs. There, the woman,
Senora, takes care of him, but then he is captured by dog control and put to sleep because he was
injured. " Of all the things I'd ever done, making Senora laugh seemed most important. It was, I
reflected, the only thing that gave my life any purpose." (Cameron 54). In his first life the dog's only
purpose was to make his owner laugh. No matter that it was a small sweet gesture from the dog, it

Plato was quoted as saying "[a] dog has the soul of a philosopher" ( ). Plato was one of the most
influential philosophers in history, and he agreed that dogs are more than just animals. Dogs have
always been extremely popular animals, and for good reason. They are incredibly intelligent,

Dogs can take on many roles in society including household pets, service or therapy dogs, police

White House has been home to many dogs over the years, as every president since Warren Harding,
excluding Donald Trump, has owned a dog ( ). According to a study done by the American Pet

Springs and other building materials are used to help save lives in earthquake prone areas. Scientist
use a variety of different materials spanning from shock absorbers to springs. Scientists put springs
under building that allow the buildings to sway but not topple over. Scientist tell builders to put steel

the vibrating from going up the building. These are made of steel which are strong and don't move a

Rescue Project Justice
"Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog the world will change
forever." (Karen Davison). Injustice is everywhere and while people notice this and think justice is
only in the courtrooms, some may not notice the kind of justice done by an organization such as the
Rescue Project. Justice in many ways are the consequences of someone's wrongdoing, but justice
can also mean doing the right thing to someone or something that has been wronged. The Rescue
Project is a nonprofit organization in Kansas City made of volunteers who love animals and look to
bring justice for those animals who have been mistreated and neglected. The Rescue Project starts
off with their volunteers who will go out and search for any animals that have been neglected and
abused. Whether they get a call or message telling them about the animal or their volunteers notice
the animal, The Rescue Project will find ways to make that animals life more enjoyable. "We
provide counseling to the owners, food, treats, some much needed love, and many other kinds of
assistance." said Andrea Knobbe the executive director for The Rescue Project. After talking and
counseling with the owners, they will perform follow ups to check on and see how the family and
animal are doing. If the owner continues to neglect and abuse the animal, The Rescue Project ...

Drug Search Dogs
Police dogs are known as local and national heros, but are they actually harming our society?
Recently videos have been released of K9 dogs attacking humans, unable to be stopped by their
handlers. Many people overlook these cases but some of the videos are hard to ignore. Many dog
bite cases have been ignored by judges as well. Researchers are calling this the "Rin Tin Tin Effect."
This is when in court, police dog bites are overlooked due to their 'Hero' status and influence of their
handlers. Drug search dogs and other service dogs also should be addressed in this category.
Because attacking dogs have been misbehaving and it is becoming more apparent to the public, dogs
in the police force should be limited to search and rescue missions. ... Show more content on

In fact, dogs that alert when drug searching people are 80% of the time ineffective and when
searching cars 56% of the time (Sullums). Also, many people are starting to portray dissatisfaction
when a police can search their car without a warrant. Russ Jones, a former police officer states, "If
my amazon box has traces of cocaine from the deliverer, this gives the right to search my house?"
(Sullums). However, even though drug dogs are occasionally unproductive, they do have a purpose
in cities and communities. Police often initiate searches in very public areas. For example, these
dogs most commonly search airports and schools. This brings people to have a fear factor. A fear
factor of the drug dog is knowing not to bring drugs to these areas because of the potential risk of
being caught and arrested. In airports, mostly bag and suitcases are searched. Lockers, bathrooms,
and even students are sniffed down during school hours when drug dogs arrive. This is a positive
effect on highschool students because it prevents illegal activities taking place on campus. Drug
searches used with dogs should be allowed in the public areas, but should be used with discretion
when entering people's private

Picking the right dog for the job is important in Search and Rescue. It takes a dog and person with
special attributes to become a successful team. Search dogs are very important to a community.
Search dogs can "find" in lots of different environments, from the woods to a burnt building. It may
look easy for a dog to simply smell out a missing person, the dog indicating that they have found the
person they are looking, for is the real challenge. Dogs and handlers work for 2–4 years to become

Air Scent Dogs Research Paper
The work of a search and rescue dog, put as simply as possible, is to locate a the source of a human
scent and alert the handler to its location. They may search for missing victims after a building
collapse, articles of clothing or other clues in a crime investigation, or even bodies underwater.
While SAR dogs are useful for a variety of situations, there are two main 'methods' by which they
work. Trailing dogs need a starting point. This is usually an article of clothing or belonging of the
person the handler is trying to find. They then follow the 'trail' in order to locate the missing
individual. However, tracking dogs cannot work after the trail has been severely contaminated,
making time critical to their success. Air–scent dogs don't need a starting point, as they simply pick
up on the strongest point of human scent. They are ideal for cases such as avalanches or collapsed
buildings, where there are multiple victims, or drowning cases, as they cannot follow a trail over the
water. The job of air–scent dogs is also less time sensitive than that of trailing dogs. Some of them
also specialise in a certain type of case; water dogs search for drowning victims, cavader dogs
search for human remains, and avalanche dogs search for buried victims after an avalanche. ... Show

Through The Nose By Frances Killea Summary
In the article "Through the Nose" by Frances Killea it talks about the way that dogs can learn to
smell in many diffrent ways. In the article it tells about the many diffrent ways that a dog uses his
sence of smell. For example, a dog will use a smell to tell who is their enemy or who their owner is
and it can also tell the moods of other dogs through a smell. A dogs smelling receptors are a lot more
sensitive than a humans so they can smell many more kinds of smells. Some dogs are used to help
try to find peole when they went missing and on search and rescue missions, so if a dog owner went
out for a walk and dissapeared then his dog would be able to help find him through many diffrent
methods. If someone went missing a dog can pick of the traces of their scent that was left behind in
the woods. A dog can smell things alot more strongly than a human can and pick up smells that we
dont know about. When explaining this concept, the author states, "Their powerful sense of smell
can pick up scents that we don't even know exist, and a large portion of a dog's brain is dedicated to
interpreting what those scents mean" (Killea par. 3). This shows that alot more of a dogs brain is set
aside to help them explain to themselves what the smells that they are smelling mean. They can

they are in th woods searching for their owner they can find certain objects with the scent of their
owner and go the way in which they smell another objet with the smell on it. That will be a great

The Bama Boys : A Long Time Ago
The Bama Boys
A long time ago, someone must have blessed me with the curse of, "May you live in interesting
times". I have never really had a boring time, even when I tried. I helped run our family jewelry
business for 30 very good years, had the bonus of living with both my parents and grandparents in
one house for many years, and I know I can turn this 2–3 page essay into 10–13 pages, easily. Out of
all my craziness, the best memory, other than my daughter, would be when my husband brought
home our two "foster" dogs from Alabama. Which gave us five dogs in total, Pink (she is a Dutch
Shepherd and Randall's service dog), Gibson (my male German Shepherd puppy, he was very
protective of me and maybe training for k–9), Telsa (our other German Shepherd female, she was
training for search and rescue) and then Chance and Tyson.
In April of 2013, my husband Randall went to Alabama to help a fellow dog trainer with her
rescue/dog–training compound. About two years before this county in Alabama were hit by a
tornado and they were still rebuilding the compound for training and finding homes for the stray
dogs that were brought to her. Therefore, Randall drove to Alabama, with two of our German
Shepherds. He was not planning to be back home for almost a year. Well, when got there to the
compound, Red, the owner, had placed roughly ten dogs in his charge.
Randall would send me videos of what he was doing with the dogs, especially two very special
dogs. These two dogs were

If you are considering getting a new puppy or a dog, especially one of the larger dog breeds, you
may want to consider getting a German Shepherd. They are one of the most popular breeds in the
world, beautiful, highly intelligent, and easy to train. They are best known to many as working dogs,
working with the police department, military, and as service dogs to the blind. The average life span
of a German Shepherd is about twelve years of age, with middle age arriving at around seven or
eight years of age. Generally, a GSD puppy will be close to its adult height around ten to eighteen
months of age, but it can take up to three years for a male, or two for a female, to be considered
completely mature. Once you have decided specifically what

City College of New York Canis lupus familiaris, also known as man's best friend. Man's best friend
has been around for many years. The dog, Canis familiaris, is a direct descendent of the gray wolf,
Canis lupus: In other words, dogs as we know them are domesticated wolves. Not only their
behavior changed; domestic dogs are different in form from wolves, mainly smaller and with shorter
muzzles and smaller teeth (PBS 2001). With that being said, the earliest dogs were wolves. The
earliest known humans took them in, started hunting with them and eventually turned them into one
of our most faithful pets. The dog may have been the first animal to be domesticated, and has been
the most widely kept working, hunting, and companion animal in human history. They quickly
became widespread across world cultures. Dogs perform many roles for people. Examples of these
are but not limited to: service and assistance work, therapy work, search and rescue, herding, show
dogs, police dogs, and entertainment. In some cultures, dogs are also an important source of meat. In
2012, Stanley Coren Ph.D. F.R.S.C. states that there are an estimated 525 million dogs all over the

Step Guideline Of A German Shepherd

  • 1. Step Guideline Of A German Shepherd The German shepherd is a very upright dog breed with outstanding working capabilities. These dogs are able to perform long hours of physical exercise without portraying signals of excessive fatigue. They are mostly used as guard dogs, police dogs, therapy dogs and also search and rescue dogs. This breed is also one of the most admirable family pet dogs simply due to its variety of adorable traits. However, owning a German Shepherd Dog comes along with a huge obligation to train it. It is paramount that the owner shall at least demonstrate basic obedience with their dog. A fact we all need to acknowledge is that German Shepherds are quite huge and strong dogs and you do not want it to drag you when you take it for a walk around the block. You ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chief purpose of leash training your dog is to stop them from pulling on the leash as it not only makes the whole idea of walking a dog disappointing but also encourages the unpleasant behaviors he has. Generally, it's far easier to leash train a puppy than an older dog but it can be done in both cases, the latter demanding a little more patience. Below is a comprehensive step by step guideline towards a successful German shepherd leash training. 1. Choose the correct collar Leash training German shepherd dog should begin with selecting an appropriate collar and placing it onto your dog's neck. Be sure to purchase a standard leather collar that is not too tight as we don't intend to hurt or strangle them. Next, try wearing it while the dog is absent–minded; maybe playing with one of his toys or eats. Allow him to get used to it and don't relieve him even if he tries to scratch it off or dislodge it. Instead, wait until he forgets about it and then take it off. 2. Let the Dog get used to the leash Next, attach a leash to the collar and allow your dog to run freely with it around the house. The dog needs to comprehend the fact that there is an unfamiliar item attached to his neck and he cannot do any much about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Sense Of Smell Everything You Need To Know About Your Dog's Sense of Smell One of the distinct characteristics of dogs is their powerful sense of smell. That is what makes them extraordinarily special. However, when you go out for a jog or a walk with your dog, sometimes you encounter some conflicts because your dog tends to sniff in a direction where you might be probably going in the opposite direction. So, what is it about their sense of smell? What makes them rely mostly on their sense of smell rather than be like humans who mostly make use of their sense of sight? Just by sniffing, they become aware of what kind of things there are and where they are located. At the same time, they are able to determine if there is perfect mate just on the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dogs are able to recall objects, people, or situation just by using their sense of smell. Although we also sometimes associate a particular scent with a certain person or event, dogs mostly rely on their sense of smell which allows them to determine so many things around them. Imprinting odor is their way learning how to identify human remains, bombs, or narcotics which could take us hours or days before we could be able to find out for ourselves. Dogs are trained to search for these. And of course, no training can be as successful without any doggie treat after every successful task. Interesting Facts and Truths More than just cuddly little creatures, your dog's sense of smell works wonders. Here are some facts: Dogs have the ability to detect cancer in its initial stage. Although scientists have proven that cancer can have a distinguishing smell that can be detected by humans, it is only during the later stage of cancer that it is possible. No matter how often humans clean themselves, for dogs, humans stink. A very amazing fact that dogs do is being able to smell the blood glucose level of their owner. Just like in the case of Claire Moon who owns a medical detection dog that lets her know when her blood sugar level drops to 4.5 on the scale. A dog is able to smell invisible things. We shed dead skin every so often that it just falls off to the ground without us ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stray Animals From Jackson County Stray Animals in Jackson County As you drive through the curvy roads here in Jackson County, you experience many things, such as the sharp curves, random pot holes, and of course you can't forget about the dead animals or starving strays you pass every now and then. Stray animals are an issue most everywhere in the U.S, Jackson County is no different than anywhere else in that sense. What really makes us different is the fact that we have all of these pitiful stray animals that are starving and freezing, some even being ran over, and we choose to ignore the problem. Some people in the community may say there's nothing we can do other than ignoring the issue. I see otherwise, although it may not be possible to solve this problem completely, there are still some possible solutions. For example, one of the possible solutions for this issue could be to add an animal shelter, or an animal rescue center somewhere within the community or county. Adding an animal shelter, or animal rescue center would open up a temporary source of food and shelter for these stray animals within the community. According to ASPCA "More than 35% of cats are acquired as strays." ("Pet Statistics.") That means at least 35% of cats found are strays. Not only do they work for humans tirelessly, but they do it with a smile on their face and a wag in their tail, and they are non–judgmental towards people with disabilities. People utilized the help and companionship dogs provided even hundreds of years ago. However, many people see dogs as futile, considering training, money, time, and work that is put into owning a dog, let alone having it specifically trained to do a certain job. It is also risky putting so much time and effort into a dog, being aware that they are very capable of making mistakes just as humans are. Some disabled people feel very disconnected from normal people, but a service dog helps them overcome that, and also become more independent. "Service dogs seem to positively influence socialization and community participation in a variety of environments. Two studies observed partnerships in natural environments (Eddy et al., 1988; Mader et al., 1989) and reported that community members smiled and conversed with children and adults with service dogs more than children and adults without service dogs, and community members did not avoid the person with a disability as much when a service dog was present" (Winkle, Crowe, and Hendrix 57). Service dogs allow disabled people to do more things on their own, with the help of the dog, and feel like they do not have to rely on other people to help them as much. In addition, when a disabled person has a service dog, they have a companion that is by their side throughout the day, boosting their confidence. Presnall writes: "Jennifer had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of sixteen... 'I felt kind of repulsive and unlovable in that wheelchair,' [Jennifer] says. 'But I knew a service dog would look at me and just think I was cool' " (8). More evidence of this is proven with the bond between David, a man who had both of his legs amputated above his knees, and his dog Inca. • 37. A Dog's Purpose Book Report As George Carlin once said, "Life is a series of dogs." In the book, A Dog's Purpose, by W. Bruce Cameron, shows just that in the dog's perspective. A Dog's Purpose is a about a dog that goes through several lives trying to find his purpose. During each life he fulfills his purpose, once as a pet for a boy, a search and rescue dog, and other lives as a dog helping and changing people's lives. Everything has a purpose in life. However, it is what you do to fulfill that purpose that makes you a good person. The dog starts off as a stray mutt named Toby. After growing up a stray, he is taken by a woman where he is placed in a pen; with approximately twenty other dogs. There, the woman, Senora, takes care of him, but then he is captured by dog control and put to sleep because he was injured. " Of all the things I'd ever done, making Senora laugh seemed most important. It was, I reflected, the only thing that gave my life any purpose." (Cameron 54). In his first life the dog's only purpose was to make his owner laugh. No matter that it was a small sweet gesture from the dog, it made his owner smile. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many dog bite cases have been ignored by judges as well. Researchers are calling this the "Rin Tin Tin Effect." This is when in court, police dog bites are overlooked due to their 'Hero' status and influence of their handlers. Drug search dogs and other service dogs also should be addressed in this category. • 53. Air Scent Dogs Research Paper The work of a search and rescue dog, put as simply as possible, is to locate a the source of a human scent and alert the handler to its location. They may search for missing victims after a building collapse, articles of clothing or other clues in a crime investigation, or even bodies underwater. While SAR dogs are useful for a variety of situations, there are two main 'methods' by which they work. Trailing dogs need a starting point. This is usually an article of clothing or belonging of the person the handler is trying to find. They then follow the 'trail' in order to locate the missing individual. However, tracking dogs cannot work after the trail has been severely contaminated, making time critical to their success. Air–scent dogs don't need a starting point, as they simply pick up on the strongest point of human scent. They are ideal for cases such as avalanches or collapsed buildings, where there are multiple victims, or drowning cases, as they cannot follow a trail over the water. The job of air–scent dogs is also less time sensitive than that of trailing dogs.
