A Review on Utilization of Copper Slag and Silica Fume in Geotechnical Engine...IRJET Journal
This document reviews the utilization of copper slag and silica fume in geotechnical engineering applications. Copper slag and silica fume are industrial byproducts that can be used to improve soil properties. When mixed with soil, they act as stabilizing agents, improving strength, workability and other characteristics. Studies have shown that copper slag can replace up to 40% of cement in concrete and improve properties when mixed with soil at a ratio of 30% copper slag to 70% soil. Silica fume reduces cracking in compacted clay and increases soil strength. Both materials have pozzolanic properties that improve binding in soils and can be used in applications like subgrades, retaining walls and embankments.

IRJET- Influence of Red Mud as a Partial Replacement of Cement with Hydrated ...IRJET Journal
This document discusses using red mud, a byproduct of aluminum production, as a partial replacement for cement in concrete. Red mud is currently stored in large waste ponds but poses environmental and storage issues. The study aims to assess the strength properties of concrete with varying replacement levels of red mud (0-20%) and 5% hydrated lime. Tests were conducted on fresh and hardened concrete specimens. Results showed compressive, tensile and flexural strengths increased up to 15% red mud replacement compared to the control concrete without replacement. This demonstrates red mud's potential as a supplementary cementitious material and provides an environmentally friendly way to utilize this industrial waste.
The document discusses the cement industry in Pakistan. It lists several key locations for cement production plants across Pakistan. It then discusses the importance of cement for construction and development in Pakistan. The main inputs for cement production are limestone, clay, shale, sand and iron ore. The production process involves mining these raw materials, grinding and heating them in a rotary kiln to form clinker, and then grinding the clinker with gypsum to produce cement. Proppant Prospects for Industrial Minerals Mike O'Driscoll IMFORMED at SME 2015Mike O'Driscoll
The quest for low cost, clean, and efficient energy sources has assisted the drive for the exploration and development of unconventional oil and gas resources worldwide, especially shale gas and shale oil resources. Advances in hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling technologies has enabled this resource exploitation. Imperative for this industry has been the evolution and development of proppants in hydraulic fracturing – mainly natural silica sand (frac sand), but also ceramic proppants manufactured from kaolin and bauxite. However, the supply of ceramic proppants is limited, especially outside North America, and meeting demand from the existing and anticipated boom in shale gas exploration and development is challenging. There are only certain industrial minerals that can meet ceramic proppant specifications, and their commercial development, until recently, has been somewhat limited. This paper highlights ceramic proppant raw materials, main sources, and supply to the oilfield industry – especially new markets in the Middle East, China, Asia-Pacific, South America – as we enter a new era of resource development which relies heavily on proppant utilisation.

Silicates are minerals consisting of silica combined with metal oxides, forming a major component of the earth's crust. They have a basic tetrahedral structure and comprise 40% of common minerals. The main types are ortho, pyro, sheet, ring, and chain silicates. Silicates have many important uses including in microchips, quartz crystals, glass, ceramics, and as allied products such as sodium silicate, aluminum silicate, and potassium silicate. China is the world's largest producer and consumer of silicates.
Industrial Minerals Basics Executive Primer IMFORMED 2015Mike O'Driscoll
1. IMFORMED is a new source for professional networking, market research, and training in the global industrial minerals industry.
2. Industrial minerals are large volume, low value commodities like limestone, gypsum, and sand that are mined and processed for uses in construction, chemicals, and other industries. They underpin modern life but are sometimes seen as "unglamorous."
3. The industrial minerals market is structured around the supply chain from mining operations to processing plants to end users in various industries. It involves exploration, mining, processing, transportation, and distribution across local, regional, and global markets.

Soda ash, also known as sodium carbonate, is produced either synthetically from salt or from natural sources like trona or brine. Globally, around 75% is produced synthetically. The proposed project is an extension of an existing 200,000 tonne per year light soda ash plant and will take 4 years to complete at a cost of $90.4 million. It will produce both light and dense soda ash. Light soda ash is used in detergents, glass, and other industries while dense soda ash is used mainly in glass production.

Alumina from Bauxite. Extraction and Production of Alumina from Bauxite
Alumina is the common name given to aluminum oxide (Al2O3). Alumina is produced from bauxite, an ore that is mined from topsoil in various tropical and subtropical regions. The Bayer process, discovered in 1887, is the primary process by which alumina is extracted from bauxite.
Bauxite is the general name given to the hydrated oxides of aluminium. It contains varying amounts of combined water and several impurities of which ferric oxide and silica are usually predominant. It is essential that the Al2O3 (alumina) be obtained substantially free from these impurities as otherwise the iron oxide and silica would be reduced and contaminate the metallic aluminium produced in the Hall (or Heroult) Process.
