1. Ten years ago dawned the beginning of a new chapter in a wonderful woman’s life, that chapter was
Star Foundation. Star Foundation has been serving the Triangle Area this past decade in a ton of
community events. We have hosted talents shows, mentoring and tutoring sessions, summer camps,
child development programs, and after school programs to guide our youth to a successful and happy
life-style. With outreach programs, community partnerships, and wonderful people who understand
that one child can make a difference in all our lives, we have chosen the path to guiding the youth of the
Triangle Area to greatness.
During our present times when you look out your window and see a group of young people, your first
thought is probably there goes trouble. Ms. Joyce Waller founder of Star Foundation made a decision
that the next time she sees a group of young children she was going to say “their goes a group a children
with a bright future.” By seeing and embracing her image of an improved community, Ms. Waller
stepped into action and decided to make a change. With the idea and the motivation, she walked into
the tough streets of Durham, NC; taking a child by the hand, looked into his eyes and told him that he
can be much more than a statistic. Since that day Ms. Waller and Star Foundation have touched and
enriched the quality of life in over 2000 children in the area.
Star Foundation’s mission is “We believe that ALL children IF giving guidance and encouragement will
become the next “Super Stars” of our community. Each child should have an equal opportunity to
succeed, regardless of their ethnic, financial, or personal background.” Star was established on February
2002 and became a non-profit organization in October 2003. With a new state of mind, new images,
more dreams, and a unstoppable will to achieve and overcome any and all obstacles, Star Foundation is
not only changing our community we are enhancing life-styles.
Serving the youth in the Research Triangle area with the purpose of guiding children to identify and
reach their goals; Star Foundations has community partnerships with CAARE, North Carolina Central
University, Duke University, Bar-B-Q Heaven, Fire Stations, and other local businesses and personal to
keep children going in a positive direction. With new minds and new spirits in the organization we are
establishing a team and family environment, putting ourselves last and the youth/community first.
There once was a saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”: Star Foundation says, “It takes a community
to raise a wise, humble, and grateful leader.” With dedication, networking, friendships, teamwork,
organization and responsibility, Star Foundation: will be the venue to bring forth efficient and effective
young people.
New goals and ideas have been identified and actions are in place for goals to be accomplished.
Discussions of opening a youth center for 100 at risk children, more community outreach programs, and
persistent influence to make a difference, will guide Star Foundation to be recognize world-wide for the
care we have in our community.
