2. Second Chance Family,
Looking back over the last five years of our organization’s existence, our Board of Directors and Staff Team would
all agree that 2021 was undoubtedly the year of our most internal growth. Everything that makes us “us” was
looked at and evaluated to continue to make a forever impact in the communities we serve. We continue to
position ourselves to evolve, gain even greater clarity, and be intentional in all that we do.
We have missed having our Second Chance Family with us on the mission field for various reasons. Going and
serving and ultimately capturing the vision of Second Chance is genuinely a unique experience for everyone
involved. It has been two whole years since we have been able to share in those experiences, and surprisingly
enough, that adjustment has only made us stronger.
As a team, we pushed through limitations, stretched fully into our Core Values, and ensured that our impact
could speak loud enough for itself. We desire that our mission will live long past our lifetime, and for it to do so
requires a great deal of stretching, growing, focusing, and living solely into the purpose Second Chance was
created for. When people could not see the work on the ground in person, we had to make sure that the stories
of life change made it to our partners. Empowerment was no longer a buzzword, but it was the fuel that drove
our organization to where it is today - utilizing Local Leaders and Partners in Haiti and the Dominican Republic
to carry out the mission.
The Vision of Second Chance couldn’t be more evident. Our Global Programs are more efficient and are operating
at a higher level of excellence than ever. As a result, our organization has a foundation to withstand more
exceptional growth and further expansion.
2021 was a remarkable year, and we want to thank you for it! You continue to be generous and committed
advocates that are transforming vulnerable lives. Our team is only a tiny part of the immense impact happening
through Second Chance. Together, we are capable of a massive, sustainable impact.
Here’s to making 2022 our strongest year of fighting generational poverty through empowerment!
With love,
Ashley Petress

OUR MISSION &
VISION
4. IMPACT DRIVEN
It is our duty, goal, and obligation to
make decisions that lead to
authentic, sustainable life change
which results in massive impact in
the lives of those we serve.
FAITH
Nothing we do means anything without Christ. He makes all things
come together. Whether living in need or abundance, He is our hope
and our reward.
COMMITTED
We know true change doesn’t
happen overnight. Each of our
programs are designed to be
sustainable, an investment for
generations to come. We will
remain committed to our work
and the relentless pursuit of
progress.
EMPOWERMENT
We are dedicated to empowering
people to find their purpose, achieve
their goals, and create a life of self-
reliance. We believe in giving hand-
ups and not hand-outs.
COLLABORATION
We work directly with indigenous leaders to identify
resources and solve problems together. We need a network
of churches and organizations who are committed to
working together to increase awareness, enhance
cultivation, and expedite transformation.
EXCELLENCE
We seek to do everything the best it can
possibly be done, with utmost excellence, in
a comprehensive manner. We have a
responsibility to utilize all resources and
talents to their fullest potential for God’s
glory. We understand excellence does not
result from occasional and unstructured
activity, but rather through repeated and
disciplined thought and action.
CORE VALUES
5. MEET EUGENIO
Eugenio wakes up before the sun comes up to meet over
50 Haitian children for school in an old building. When
school lets out at noon, he takes off in his truck and hopes
to sell as many bananas as he can. With the profits of his
bananas, he pays not only for his family's needs but also
pays for the rent of the building where his students meet.
These students are children of Haitian Immigrants who do
not have legal paperwork to access quality education. If it
wasn’t for Eugenio’s commitment to this school, the
opportunity to break the cycle of poverty would not exist
We believe that by investing in entrepreneurship and
education we can expect tangible progress and effective
change for families and future families. Breaking the
poverty cycle for family after family is the legacy we chase
after.

HIGHLIGHT
"The money that my business makes is not
mine to do with what I want, it’s God money,
and He is entrusting me with it, to use it to
glorify Him. I try to be cautious where I
donate, which is why I chose Second
Chance. It was easy to see that they use the
money that comes in to them in the right
ways and with the right heart, to serve God
and those in need. There mission is my
mission, and I see Gods hand in all that He is
allowing them to accomplish."
