1. STAR Business Model
Star India (STAR), a wholly owned subsidiary of the News Corporation group of Rupert Murdoch is
one of the most recognizable brands in Asia, broadcasting over 60 services in 14 languages, offering
comprehensive choices of entertainment, sports, movies, music and news. Launched in 1990, STAR is
the market leader in the Indian television market.
STAR has four regional offices. It sells content to the operators through distributors. STAR secures its
content through NDS CAS. It also distributes the content of other content providers by bundling them
into packages.
The distributors registers operator and place the order for the required packages and hardware to the
respective regional offices, which approves orders and provides required hardware.
