The Meaning Of Culture In Greek Literature
In the Greek literature that I read, I have identified the informing symbol for this culture is
finding the meaning of life. The Atwood theory, discussed in class, is that at the heart of any
country or culture is a single unifying and informing symbol. Atwood s theory gives the country
or culture its identity and strength. The literature of the country or culture probably is what
shows this symbol the best. The stories that I read are and dreams are dreams , stories of taxi
drivers , and the white bear from the book ....and dreams are dreams by Vassilis Vassilikos. I also
read Zorba the Greek, a novel by Nikos Kazantzakis. They were a useful source for finding the
Greek symbol of life.
Each story does a decent job in showing the meaning of life for the country for Greece. Zorba the
Greek explores where and how to find meaning in life in a world where the author emphasizes
we are all fated to die. The novel tells us how we should live and knowing that we will die soon.
In Zorba the Greek, the narrator, the thirty five year old Boss, goes to Greece to reopen a mine
he owns in Crete, and to learn to understand the life of the common, working class person. He
meets an older man named Zorba, who lives largely unthinkingly in the world. Zorba is a lower
class than the narrator, has worked with his hands and has been a lover. The narrator hires him as a
foreman for the mine. Zorba is hardworking and absorbed in living with enjoyment in the moment
while the narrator tries

Anne Frank Reflection
The Holocaust was a horrific event in human history that took place in the early 1930s through
the mid 1940s. This was when millions of Jews and other people who were thought to be a race
and were sent to concentration camps by those who refer to as evil people. Although many
people thought this, one girl, Anne Frank, who was a Jewish girl in hiding, said this: In spite of
everything, I still believe people are really good at heart. Regarding all of the hate and struggles
Anne and her family faced, she still saw good in everyone and everything that happened. After
reading the playbased on Anne s real diary she kept while in hiding, I have to agree with her
famous quote. One of the main reasons I agree with Anne is because of the empathy Mr. Frank
showed for her daughter when times were scary. Now, I do understand that all arguments have two
sides and that there are some who don t agree with me, according to Mr. Van Daan s selfishness
and greed.
Now, I m sure some of you are saying that there are more acts of kindness throughout the play, and I
agree with you, but what convinced me to side with Anne and her thought is when her father, Mr.
Frank, attended to her needs after a nightmare she had. On page 64, the following dialogue takes
place:
Mr. Frank: I want you to take this pill.
Anne: What is it?
Mr. Frank: Something to quiet you. ... Do you want me to read to you for a while?
During this scene, the Van Daan s, the Frank s and Mr. Dussel had gone to bed for the night.
Everyone was sleeping peacefully until Anne started screaming from a terrible nightmare. She
accidentally woke everyone else up with her screaming, and her father decided to take care of
Anne and let everyone else go back to sleep. Unlike Mr. Van Daan, Mr. Frank, or Anne s father,
showed that he has empathy for his daughter and would do anything to make sure that she was
okay. And by asking if she wanted him to read to her really showed that he really cared about her.
His act not only shows empathy for Anne, but that he s there for her when she needs him and that
he doesn t just care about himself, but about others. And by doing so, Mr. Frank stayed with her
until she fell asleep. He was doing what any father should do.
Now, just because I

Suicide Is The Second Most Common Form Of Death Essay
Suicide is the second most common form of death in adolescence. Flip through any peer
reviewed journal article, and you will see that this is not just a myth. In fact, in Canada, 10.3
adolescent males and females take their life for every 100,000 people in the national population
every year (WHO, 2007). In the United States, that number is almost double at 17.8 adolescent
males and females for every 100,000 individual aged 15 24 (WHO, 2007). For over the last
decade, researchers from all parts of the world have been at work trying to piece together what it is
that triggers and pushes teenagers into making the ultimate decision and take their life. In Norway,
researchers came up with four possible factors: the parents regarding poor communication, previous
suicidal ideation, alcohol and drug abuse, and frequency and variances of depression and mental
disorder developments (Herrestad, Mehlum, Nrugham). In support of the finding, adolescents in
Thailand who had attempted suicideclaimed that they had done so due to severe parenting
criticisms, which threw them into a state of depression and rendered them uncontrollable of their
actions and emotions (Arunpongpaisal, Rungreangkulkij, Sukhawaha, 2016). In another study
conducted in the United States, Caucasian and Hispanic adolescents between the ages of 13 and 18
claimed they were 1 1/2 times more likely to have suicidal thoughts if they fell into an addiction
with alcohol after having been sexually assaulted (Behnken,

South Virginia s Coal Industry
The coal industry has helped fuel this nation for 150 years, and coal can be used to heat our
homes, power our economy, and protect our nation for at least another 150 years if we continue to
use it. Tim Murphy. Coal has an interesting history in West Virginia, which has contributed
significantly to the improvement and livelihood of West Virginians since its first discovery, which
is now Boone County in 1742 by Peter Salley, more than a century before West Virginia, became a
state. The coalindustry has played a major role in the state s economic, political and community
history. The industry has also been a center of debate and the impact of unfounded criticism, giving
rise to battles in the arenas of labor, environment and safety. Since 1742, West Virginia has provided
our nation and the world with the finest coal found anywhere. As of today, West Virginia s coal
miners apply useful and effective mineral removal technology that makes other countries envy their
counterparts around the world. West Virginia s exports more coal than any other state in the
country. West Virginia has more longwall mining systems than any other state. This leads the nation
in underground coal productions and sets the pace for the rest of the industry in recovery and
environment protection. At the same time, West Virginia coal industry displays a sense of
responsibility for health, safety and environmental that is incomparable anywhere in the world.

The Little Buddhism Analysis
The Little Buddha is an amazing, and uplifting movie, and full of positive meaning, yet it also is
full of religious meaning. Aspects of life and death are shown throughout the movie, but the film
mainly explains three key aspects of Buddhism. Buddhist teachings of reincarnation, impermanence,
and enlightenment, are connected deeply to each other and is illustrated throughout the film. The
first Buddhist teaching of reincarnation is evident from the beginning of the movie. The audience
starts to see these teachings when a Buddhist teacher is making it evident to his student (Lama
Norbu) that he is ready to reincarnate, after he passes away. Lama finds out that there are three
potential reincarnations of his teacher s soul. These reincarnates... Show more content on

It subtly explained that death is not permanent as it is merely a temporary state of one s soul that
will cycle on. The films depiction of impermanence gives the viewers the message of change and
how it is a part of life we all go through, however, death is not permanent. Nothing is forever in life,
everyone goes through changes that are positive and negative just like the films element of
impermanence, that provide the natural changes in the challenges of life. For instance, when one of
the reincarnates child s father s brother dies and they experience a difficult death, which is also
showing that life is not finite. Another illustration of impermanence and a lesson of reincarnation is
a scene where Lama Norbu explains what it means to reincarnate and its relation to the religion. He
explains that the mind and the body is like the content and the container . He illustrates this by
smashing his cup of tea, and states, the cup is not a cup anymore. Yet where is the tea? [...]just
like the mind after one dies, the tea(content) moves from one container to the next, but it is still tea
. This is an important point about how the soul travels from vessel to vessel. The vessels change
but the soul remains the same, like the tea in its cup, the floor, and in a

The Is A Vessel For The Soul Essay
Ancient religions tend to believe that the body is merely a vessel for the soul. Some, in their quest
to achieve a more significant spiritual attachment with God, have lambasted their bodies as symbols
of weakness and seek to rectify it through self mutilation or starvation. In Judaism, for example, the
Old Testamentcommands that the body be kept sacred. This restricts self mutilation and even
tattoos. However, fasting is still permitted and even encouraged. Aside from the commanded Old
Testament fast days such as Yom Kippur, there are other Rabbinic fast days throughout the year,
and stories abound of Rabbi s fasting routinely as a means of drawing themselves closer to their
soul and to God. Tradition even claims that Moses fasted for forty days upon the mountain before
receiving the Old Testament from God. Within Christianity, however, many went even further.
Instead of just fasting, many actively starved themselves and inflicted bodily harm upon them.
Fasting does remain a significant part, though, as proven by Jesusfasting for forty days and other
Saints following his example. This was a trait of Saints, who insisted on going through severe trials
and tribulations in order to conquer their own bodies. Some Saints would even make the ultimate
sacrifice of Martyrdom. Often, this was more pronounced among women who had the additional
impurities that were not as pronounced in men.
Rev Michael Geisler of St. Louis speculates that the purpose of the self mutilation was

So he represents his father as a sailor on his ship, this is his interpretation/metaphor. Seamus

Atomic Theory And The Study Of Matter
Atomic Theory and the Study of Matter Matter is anything made up of atoms and molecules and
the study of these things called atoms dates back to the time of Ancient Greece to the present. The
information about atoms known today is certainly much greater than what was known centuries
ago. First, there was only hypotheses on this idea that everything in the world is made up of tiny,
unseeable particles. As technology advanced, these hypotheses were tested, critiqued, modified, and
built upon. A mass of knowledge is known regarding atoms, thanks to the research of numerous
chemists and physicists. The atomic theory is the building block to the study of matter just as the
atomis the building block to all matter. Around 400 BCE was when the Greek philosopher
Democritus, alone with his teacher Leucippus, the idea of the atom was born (the word atom
comes from the Greek word atomos or atomon meaning that which cannot be split ). This was a
completely new concept, and Democritus s theory stated that atoms were indestructible and
homogenous, and different states of matter were made up of differently shaped atoms: solids had
sharp and pointy atoms and liquids had large round atoms. Later these ideas would be proved
inaccurate, however, this was the beginning of the discovery of the atom even though the people of
this time had no instruments capable of testing the theory. It was not until centuries later that the
atomic theory was truly looked at again. In 1803 an English

how mystical and religious the story sounds. The space boiled, in the rapid expansion of the

her age, and to evaluate for pneumonia and masses. Due to the duration of the cough and the fact
that her cough is becoming productive with yellow sputum, I would tell the patient she probably
started out with a viral bronchitis that now could be transitioning into a bacterial bronchitis and
/or Pertussis and I would prescribe an antibiotic that will cover both: Azithromycin 500mg PO
day 1, then 250mg PO Daily X 4 days. I would instruct her to buy over the counter mucinex take
as directed on box, and drink plenty of fluids. If the cough does not improve in 3 weeks have her
follow up.
CASE ONE CONTINUED: She returns in three weeks. Her chest X ray was normal. Her
symptoms are unchanged.
4. Now what? What is Upper Airway Cough Syndrome?
Now further evaluation is needed and a change in treatment. According to Tofts, P.H., Oliveira, E.,

New Image Hair Salon
I always loved to play in someone s hair and to style it was always fun and interesting to me. since I
was a little girl doing hair has always been my dream and my passion for it for is strong. I started
doing hair when I was thirteen years old. She notices that I wasn t breaking their hair off their hair
and that I was doing a good job so she started to let me style it. When I go to college i m going to
major in business so I can own my own salons. One in North Carolina and one in California.
Reason why not more is because I want to travel with a celebrate and do there hair on the road; tv

I think in order to be able to open my own business or hair salon, I must be able to do my

should be capable of doing the customer s hair. During the time I was interning at New Image
Salon, I had to touch bases with a collection of people from my peers, supervisor, and clients.
Some of the pros and cons of being a cosmetologist are first the pros learning something new and
very interesting every moment and day in the salon form fellow workers as well as clients,
learning different ways of doing certain and different procedures that are done for different
clients, and lastly getting to know people mostly my clients and making new friends almost
every day. I had communicated a lot with customers over the phone and I had to make sure I
was very polite and patient, even though some were rude. If I wasn t polite or patient they
probably wouldn t want to come to the hair salon (the customer is always right). I also had
clients who came to the shop to schedule appointments face to face and I had to take them
directly to their stylist to make sure they were free on that day. I really didn t talk to my friends
like that at the hair salon, I normally only spoke to my supervisor when I m being told exactly

The Master Path to Our Destiny in the Hunger Games
In a general apprehension path is defined as the route or course along which something travels or
moves. In the concept of human being it involves to follow our destiny. The concept of path raise
much debate mostly about whether our path is deciding by us or someone else. Many christian
argue that their path is already written before they even born, but in my point of view we are the
only master of our path because of our power to choose and decide.
In my point of view our path is deciding by us because we are able to take our own decision. For
example when I was much younger I decided by myself to get involve in sport activity. It only
happens because I choose and because I wanted to that let think that obviously I chose my path
and the route that I want to follow. In the Hunger games Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her
younger sister place in the Hunger Game. The fact that the game s organizer let her volunteer
mean to me she chooses her path which was participated in the hunger game. Everything that
follow was just the result of her choice. In that same way the power I have to choose to play sport
would have consequence such meet new people, travel to new, and do thing which will follow with
consequences.
Some religious and societal beliefs push us through the idea that our path is not in our hand. They
state that we are always influenced by external cause, and the limitation of our life choice. For
example in the Truman Show Truman has a path already

Essay On Implicit Authentication
There are several efforts done to give solutions for restrictions on the implicit authentication. These
efforts will be discussed in this section. Traditional authentication methods depend on possession of
private data (i.e. passwords, pattern). Also, physiological biometrics based on algorithms that use
distinct personal features, such as fingerprints or iris patterns. Lately, behavior based authentication
uses the private behavior for users, e.g., gestures and gaits. Currently, there are many different
physiological biometrics for authentication, such as fingerprints and face patterns [2], and iris
patterns [3]. However, physiology based authentication requires user help in the authentication. For

They review methods and features used for this field. They suggested an approach in which a user
must enter gesture in any direction to build user s model to be matched later through a score
computation. However, no implementation is done to show accuracy achieved by the proposed
framework.
Jain et al. [11] suggested an algorithm to compare the Equal Error Rates(EER) obtained from
the touch screen sensor with the rates of keystrokes in hardware keyboard. A developed
keyboard application replaces the system keyboard to capture features in any application that
uses a keyboard. The features are then stored in a SQLite database and classified by a one class
SVM. This method achieved EER of 10.5% for keystroke data, 3.5% for touch data and 2.8% for
all data (touch and keystroke). However, Additional sensors on the devices, such as gyroscopic and
rotational sensors, are ignored in this study. These sensors could differentiate accurately touch data
from the keyboard timing data.
Feng Yao el al [12] have proposed and evaluated a Fuzzy Logic based implicit authentication
scheme for mobile access control. That can maintain a high recognition of legal user activities while
enabling timely detection of adversary user behavior by feeding dynamically computed aggregate
score and threshold based parameters into Fuzzy Logic system to determine the trust status of
current user activity. The proposed Fuzzy Logic based authentication

The Rights Of Gays And The Homosexual Agenda
In March of 2009, at the Hotel Triangle in Kampala, Uganda, Scott Lively, an American attorney
and activist and the president of Abiding Truth Ministries, a conservative Christian organization,
delivered a speech that was to have a drastic effect on the human rights of gays and lesbians in
Uganda. The speech, given at an anti gayconference titled Exposing the Truth behind
Homosexualityand the Homosexual Agenda , linked homosexuality with child molestation and the
destruction of African families and laid the foundation for what was to become a virulently
homophobic movement in Uganda. This religious crusade against the rights of gays and lesbians
culminated in an oppressive law, passed in 2014 and recently struck down on a technicality by a
Ugandan court that, in its original form, made homosexual acts punishable by death. This paper
examines the roots and language of the law and the connection between its passage and American
evangelical efforts in Uganda, as well as the distorting influence of Scott Lively and a lawsuit
brought against him for human rightsviolations. Lively is an attorney, activist, and candidate for the
2014 Massachusetts governorship, as well as a published author (most notably of The Pink

Holocaust). He is the pastor and president of Abiding Truth Ministries, a church based in

The Power Of Delaying Gratification Analysis
Alex Lickerman, author of the article The Power of Delaying Gratification , discuss about the
experiment psychologist Walter Mischel did on the kids to understand their self control.
Basically, he give a group of children a cookie and he give them to option either they could eat
the cookie immediately or they can wait until he come back however if they wait for him to
back they will receive another cookie. Based on his experiment he conclude that the kid who
resist to eat cookie and wait for him to gain another cookie they will do better in the school than
the kids who did not resist. For instances, they will get higher sat scores than who eat the cookie
immediately. Likewise, I attempt to do the same experiment instead of using cookie I use candy
because teenager loves candy therefore it will be difficult for them to refuse candy. So, I try to
do the experiment on students who are in regular classes and they need special helps from the
teacher. Based on the results, I realize only freshman and sophomore find it difficult to candy
seniors are also found difficult to resist candy. This interacts with Walter ideology because I did
experiment students who are in regular classes and Walton states that kids who resist to eat candy
straightway will do better in the school. Therefore, the students I did experiment they find difficult
to resist the candy so they are in regular class. My textbook says about the delaying gratificationis

The Pros And Cons Of Child Rearing
One of the most heavily debated aspects of abuse when it comes to child rearing is defining
what abuse is relative to the cultural traditions of a society. More particularly, these cultural
specific patterns of child rearing have been one of the most controversial topics in terms of child
abuse because what might seem as abusive for some cultures might not exactly be seen as such in
another (Bornstein, 1991). A good example of this type of duality would be the difference between
Western and Eastern Standards of child rearing and control. In the United States, spanking and
badmouthing is considered to be abusive in the sense that policies have even been established to
mitigate these behaviors from the parents. However, in countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, and
China, among others, spanking and use of bad words are considered to be normal as long as it is
within acceptable limits (e.g. not inflicting grave injuries and permanent marks). Nevertheless,
contrary to what the western perspective thinks about the use of intense physical and verbal means
of rearing the child, children in the East are not exactly those how would experience psychological
abuseor other types of emotional repercussions, because in the first place they know exactly what
the is the purpose of acts like this. Now, this poses the question, if child rearing is relative, what
would be considered as abusive and not, especially in terms of the verbal and psychological aspects
of it. According to Pingleton

John Adams And The Ethics Behind The Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was an incident that took place on March 5, 1770 where the British Army
killed five male civilians as well as injuring six others. The use of propaganda at the time led by
patriots spurred hostility towards the British authority. The result of the hatred was great tension
among the public as well as the death of some of the participants. Following the alarming incidence,
Thomas Hutchinson, the acting governor committed himself to undertaking an inquiry, which
reformed on the following day and the troops withdrew to Castle Island . The soldiers and the
civilians arrested there in were arrested and charged with murder. Consequently, John Adams
, a
defense lawyer defended them and they were acquitted. Thus, this paper focuses on the
investigative role of John Adams and the ethicsbehind the Boston Massacre. Following the incident,
Thomas Hutchinson started the investigation process, which led to the arrest of eight soldiers and
four civilians. In the investigations, the arrested soldiers and four civilians were allegedly involved
in the exchange fire and were consequently charged with murder. These soldiers included Hugh

The Disappearance Of Bumblebees
Bumblebees have been rapidly disappearing there are many different theories of what is causing
the population to decrease. One possible reason for the decline in the population of bumblebees is
due to cell phone radiation. Electromagnetic exposure causes a change in the bee s behavior. The
radiation interferes with their navigation systems causing impairment they get confused and are not
able to make it back to their hive. Bumblebees and other insects use crypotochrome for navigation.
Crypotochromes are photoreceptors that regulate entrainment by light by the circadian clock.
Bumblebees use it to sense the direction of earth s magnetic field. There ability to do this is
compromised by cellphone radiation. In a study at Panjab University in

When people hear the word slavery, they picture chains, shackles, and labor harder than any man
woman or child should ever have to endure. Slavery can be in many more forms than this however.
Many men, women, and children were slaves during the 19th and early 20th century, this type of
slavery they were in was wageslavery. Wage slavery is a person completely dependens on income
from employment. Many men were forced to work hard long hours, women were also expected to

children either wanted to or were forced to go into work to help support their families. Many of

causing them to work for close to nothing. Women were not immune to this type of unfairness.
Many women went to work in textile factories or domestic services. Having women work and

Change Is Pain Research Paper
Change is pain refers to the complex connection between the anatomy of individuals brains and
human behavior that makes change almost impossible. According to Rock and Schwartz (2006),
psychology and neuroscience research have gained a new perspective on how different areas of the
brain determine human behavior. In particular, when individuals are exposed to situations that
include changing a specific behavior, there are two main reasons that make changing the behavior a
pain. One of these reasons relates to the nature of human memory and its relationship to
conscious attention (Rock Schwartz, 2006, p. 3). As per Rock and Schwartz (2006), routine
activities that take place in the working memory area of individuals brain require less effort and
energy from individuals to perform than new activities which takes place in the basal ganglia of
the brain; for example, driving to work versus taking a standardized test (e.g., GRE, CPA,... Show

Individuals will highly prefer driving to work than taking the standardized test. This results from
the great energy demand that a new activity requires, which is proportional to changing a behavior.
The second reason that makes change difficult is related to individuals basic brain functioning
(Rock Schwartz, 2006, p. 4). As per Rock and Schwartz (2006) stated that the orbital frontal
cortex of the human brain tends to perceive change as errors; consequently, this evokes
overwhelming emotions that requires a high demand of energy and leads individuals to behave
irrational by depriving the prefrontal brain region from energy. That is, when individuals face a
change, they tend to register it as an error which in turn originates an array of emotions that
disrupt their behavior. For instance, many individuals experience great fear of public speaking. If
someone who is not comfortable speaking in public is asked to give a speech, that person will
experience a variety of emotions that will interfere with his/her

Public Health Association Of Australia
I would like to suggest further options that can be adopted by the present Government. Nationwide
free information sessions (communicative intervention) targeting pregnant women in antenatal
clinics and parents in schools should be organised about 2 3 times per year. These sessions would
stress on explaining the expected benefits and importance of vaccinations, with question time
periods to enable parents to clear out any doubts. Take home informative brochures would also be
designed and distributed.
Improving access (facilitative intervention) to parents from remote and rural areas is also another
good way to ensure immunisation uptake. Another good idea would be to distribute food vouchers
(distributive approach) to parents coming from the distant rural areas.
We could also focus on monitoring the spread of vaccine preventable diseases, via the ACIR, so as
to detect any outbreak at the earliest possible and take the necessary preventive measures
(communicative intervention).
Policy actors in favour
Probable actors in favour of resolving the issue would be the World Health Organisation, the Public
Health Association of Australia, members of the Government(in particular those working in the
Immunise Australia Program), and health professionals (in particular doctors).
These interest groups would have different objectives which could be achieved by supporting
issues that lead to the increase in childhood immunisation uptake. WHO would be expected to be in

The Theme Of Light Vs Dark In Romeo And Juliet
Love plays a crucial part in people s lives. Not only is it the foundation of one s well being, but it
also affects those included in that circle. With this in mind, love can overpower negativity and
conflicts. However, if one is not able to persuade the importance of their devotion, they can become
consumed by darkness. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the author incorporates the motif of
light vs. dark to convey the theme that an individual s love surmounts any feelings of hatred.
Romeo depicts Juliet as light in order to portray how she enables him to sense hope and
contentment. For instance, upon noticing her for the first time at the Capulet ball, Romeo

Plasticity is primarily a property ball clays (Stephenson, 1912, p.13). Stephenson says that because
the plasticity of clay is destroyed at 450o, the temperature needed to drive off the water, that
plasticity probably has something to do with the combination with water (1912, p.14). The
mechanism of this plasticity has not yet been satisfactorily explained by any theory, At present
three theories contest the field the colloid, the soluble salt, and the molecular attraction theories
(Stephenson, 1912, p. 14).
Traditional ceramics can be divided into three categories based on the chemicals and properties of
the clays. These types are china clay which you know to be porcelain, ball clay which is malleable ,
and fire clay which is refractory (Stephenson, 1912, p.12).
China clay is our first type of ceramic. China clay is used to make porcelain (Stephenson, 1912, p.
12). China clay is unique from the other clays because it has large amounts of kaolinite
(Stephenson,1912, p.12) Kaolinite is a white mineral, giving porcelain it s unique look, with a
chemical formula of Al2Si2O5(OH)4 (Stephenson,1912, p.12).
Ball clay is the next type of clay. Ball clay is unique because of its malleability (Stephenson.
1912, p.13). Ball clay is the clay you see potters working on potter s wheels. It s useful to potters
because it can be molded into complex forms and made permanent by firing (Stephenson, 1912,

During the age of where he was to attend school, France was at war and as a result he had to be
taught by his father who first introduced the young boy to music, which I think was the moment
he sparked an interest in music. By the age of twelve he was composing for large chamber
groups where he was taught to play the flute and guitar. As every father has dreams for their
kids, he sent Berlioz off to Paris to study medicine where he obtained his first degree in science.
With the love of music in his heart, he forced his acceptance to where he would be a pupil of Jean
François Lesueur, professor at Paris Conservatoire.
Having Manic Depressive illness, or bipolar disorder, is probably the reason he was so creative
in his works which is exemplified in Symphonie fantastique. In 1826, he was enrolled into Paris

Determining Musical Genre
Determining musical genres is one of the most highly debated topics in the music world. To some,
there are strict walls that separate classical from baroque music and jazz from the blues, but to
others, the many overlapping qualities between opera and operettas make the line between their
labels very thin and blurry. The musiccommunity may struggle with this conversation for many
years to come and it is possible that distinct guidelines used to determine a composition s musical
genre will never be agreed upon. Nonetheless, in order to come closer to a commonly accepted
definition of specific musical genres, it is worthy to examine the historical background and social
context that surround the creation and evolution of genres themselves. The... Show more content on

Musicals can be described as any musical performance that includes dialogue, sometimes with
music beneath that dialogue. At first glance, the definitions between operetta and Broadway
musical appear to be quite similar, however the structure of the musical composition, the subject
matter of these two types of performances, and the reasons for production are drastically different.
For example, many Broadway musicals have an open ended run because producers want to garner
the highest profits possible. A narrower definition of a Broadway musical is any performance that
incorporates music and dance in one of thirty eight professional theatres that each seat 500 or more
people in the Time Square district of the borough of Manhattan, New York City. Although this
description is very specific geographically, this region is the reason Broadway musicals have their
current reputation and recognizable name.
The Broadway musical is the product of opera s evolution in America. Although these two musical
genres have key differences between plot and structure, they have many similarities such as voice
type and production structure. While it would be uncommon for Broadway stars of 2016 to sing
classical music at their solo concerts, this was widely accepted and encouraged of singers in the
first half of the 20th century in

Argumentative Essay On Phobias
Taking into consideration that all people are unique, we all have different phobias. A phobia is an
extreme or irrational fear of something. Many phobias are in relation to one another. For instance
the phobias agoraphobia, anthropophobia, and stenophobia. These three are related by the reason of
they can correspond with social situations. Agoraphobia is mainly the fearof crowds. It can also be
the fear of bridges or being outside. Anthropophobia is the fear of people and society. It is also
known as an extreme pathological form of shyness. The last phobia, stenophobia, is very rare. It is
the fear of narrow things or places. All phobias are important to understand. Being able to

As people, we must realize that phobias cannot be fixed by ourselves. In order to help individuals
that we may encounter, we must completely understand phobias. We cannot judge them for
something they cannot help. To help an individual feel more at ease it is our job to know the
causes, effects, impacts, and treatments of their phobia. This would help to completely understand

Peter Berger ( 1967 )
Introduction As Peter Berger (1967) explained religion, it is a sacred canopy under which the
entirety of life is explained and regulated. Secularization theory as explained by Weber holds that
modernity challenges this sacred canopy through two major ways: increased cultural and
structural pluralism and increased primacy of economic pursuits (Emerson and Hartman,
2006:129). With globalisation accelerating in the post Cold War era, causing mass migration
across borders, increased interstate interaction and huge growth in the global financial market, it
was predicted that religious influence would be relegated to the private sectors of social life by
ripping the sacred canopy, and leaving people with, at best, sacred umbrellas (Smith 1998).
Despite this, what secularization theory did not anticipate is that the demystification of the world
provided within it the seeds both for the re mystification of the world and resistance to the
demystification (Berger, 1992:1). Hence the world today, with some exceptions, is as furiously
religious as it ever was, in some places more so than ever (Berger, 1999:8). Since the 1970s there
has been a particular rise in religious fundamentalist movements, as signalled by the Iranian
Revolution in 1979 led by Ayatollah Khomeini, which led to the establishment of the first Islamic
State. As Almond et al note, fundamentalist movements have risen to the highest levels of power in
Sudan in 1993, Afghanistan and India in 1996, and in India again

Portryal of Andy as a Symbol of Hope in Shawshank...
In 1994, Frank Darabont s film The Shawshank Redemption received a poor reception when
released; it only made a $0.3m profit. More recently the film has become known as one of the
greatest movies of all time, it has inspired hope in many people, helping them to lose weight,
leave abusive marriages and such like. The film is based mainly upon two convicts, and the idea
of hope. Andy Dufresne is a Hot Shot Banker imprisoned with two life sentences, for the suspected
murder of his wife and her lover and Red (Morgan Freeman) whom Andy redeems hope in, along
with the other convicts, saving them from institutionalisation. One of the ways in which Andy
saves himself is by making projects for himself. The first thing that Andy does is to... Show more

Red is very reluctant to accept hope, even stating in the film Hope is a dangerous thing; hope
can drive a man insane and this is expressed through shadows cast on him whilst Andy is shown
in the light. This idea of hopelessness exaggerates the redemption of hope expressed later on in
the film, an example of this is right at the very start of the film when the man is beaten so badly
by the prison guards that he dies, Andy s asks a key question that nobody can answer; What was
his name? . This hopelessness is then contrasted when the friendships are formed later on in the
film, when everybody becomes close, which is confirmed when Andy bargains with the guards
and consequently wins three bottles of beer for each of his work mates. Andy s friends and he are
regularly shown laughing together or helping one another to cope, Darabont successfully reflects
hope into the eyes of the viewer through these friendships. Gestures such as the harmonica
illuminate this point when Red begins to create music. Music is constantly used in the film as an
icon of hope; it is used throughout the whole film in various different ways, to express and
exaggerate different emotions that the characters are feeling. We are able to track the change of
emotions and the feelings towards the idea of hope that the convicts in Shawshank have, making
the build up of hope increasingly noticeable to the viewer. The main use of Music

The Negative Portrayal of Women
According to today s society, men are women are equal and have equal rights. Although we all try
to believe this, the fact is almost every language and culture is male dominated. Men have always
been favoured and believed to be superior to women, which still exists in some third world
countries, such as Afghanistan. F. Scott Fitzgeralds classic novel, The Great Gatsby, portrays how
women were treated during the 1920s. In the novel, women play the role of an object for men s
pleasure, a strong figure, and materialistic. Myrtle Wilson plays the role of an object for Tom

Just as Biff and Happy in Death of a Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, use their women as
objects by seeking them for their own pleasure and disrespect them, so too does Tom towards
Myrtle not only as he seeks her based on his schedule for his own pleasure, but also as he broke her
nose with his open hand (39).
Jordan Baker takes on the role of a strong female figure in the novel. She takes action when she
meets Nick, as she held [his] hand impersonally (44), compared to the other women like Daisy,
who are passive. She also is involved in golf, which is not the typical woman during the 1920s.
She earns her money through this talent oppose to Daisy, who relies on her husband for money,
which shows her strong figure as she is independent. Similar to Lauren Conrad from the reality
show, The Hills, who is independent and works for her own money, so it is Jordan, which sets her
strong female figure in this novel.
Daisy Buchanan plays the role of a materialistic female. She relies on her husband, Tom
Buchanan s wealth, as her voice is full of money (115). According to Tori DeAngelis research,
when people are insecure they become more materialistic as a way to adapt , which is shown
through Daisy s character as she masks her unhappiness through materialism as a result of her
husband s infidelity. As a result of being with Tom for materialistic interest, she suffers the
consequences as she is constantly ordered by him, for example, sit down Daisy

The Pony Express
The Pony Express was an extremely important event in history for three profoundly reasons. All
together, it helped the farther east states to keep in contact with the West with all the news of
what was happening, important documents, and sometimes small packages and family letters
that were being sent from different states. It helped for new and more improved ideas of how
could the spreading of news could be spread faster and safer. The good reason of keeping all the
states in contact with all the others is because families moved or members of a family moved to
further states for jobs. Travelers went in search for wealth and land and with the California Gold
Rushpeople went to get a better life. But with the rush to go find gold, that left many people in
need to know what was going and if their love ones found anything and what documents are being
passed because of the California Gold rush. Especially when California became a state it put
extreme pressure upon the citizens, business, and all miners alike for electing U.S government
representatives. Furthermore people wanted to keep in touch with their friends, family, and
companies. As the tremendous threat of the Civil War about to break out and the Southern states
rebelling because of the refusing to give up slavery and with other things causing the Civil War to
happen. It opened up the eyes of many companies. Some seen what could become of their success

Examples Of Dystopian Society In The Truman Show
The Prison Manufactured by a Dystopian Society Throughout the semester, many pieces of
literature was introduced that presented the theme of dystopian societies suppressing their citizens.
These pieces ranged from printed books describing fictional characters struggles, to a film
fabricating a fictional, civil imprisonment of an ignorant man, and even real world examples of
governmental control. All the authors were able to construct this idea of most commonly a
government or some sort of controlling body that had total control over the protagonist, and was
able to fool the rest of the people around the protagonist. Small indications were methodically placed

In conclusion, because everyone is narcotized, they are not aware of the many, many wrong
things occurring in The World State. This of course expedites to the introduction of the
protagonist, Bernard Marx. Once Marx is fully cognitive about his situation, he immediately
tries alarming others. No, the real problem is: How is it that I can t or rather because, after all, I
know quite well why I can t what it would be like if I could, if I were free not enslaved by my
conditioning, (Huxley 91). In addition to the always evident tripping on soma, all citizens of
The World State are created in test tubes and conditioned as fetuses to become their pre destined
social rank. Speculations have also been spread that Bernard s conditioning had altered him to
be slightly mentally different from the rest, providing it even more difficult to make an effort to
convince the rest of his society that they are being enslaved. While away on a trip to a Savage
Reservation in New Mexico, Bernard tries to persuade Leina, a woman friend of Bernard s, to
become conscious of her situation. Despite his clear efforts and intentions, Leina s conditioning
was so strong that all she can do is repeat the words she was hypnopУ•dically taught and ignore
his words. To counter act Bernard s words, she offers him a condolence that Everyone is happy

The Recent Repatriation Laws Set Up By Egypt And The...
The recent repatriation laws set up by Egypt and the subsequent demands from other nations have
stirred up great debates over who is to have possession over the priceless ancient artifacts. In the last
few decades many countries including Egypt have proclaimed that they want the return of many of
their uncovered artifacts. Egypt s demands stretch from museums in the United States to Europe,
with growing controversy from both sides as to who rightfully owns these historical artifacts.
Simply put, all artifacts discovered in Egypt do technically belong to Egypt. Egyptian museums
should have the right to showcase the history of their ancient predecessors by showcasing the
material culture of their past uncovered from that time. However, the United States along with other
Western nations, particularly England counter their claim by saying that it is in the majorities
interest that artifacts from around the world can be seen in universal museums . That in contrast to
the museums in Egypt, a museum such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art presents to a more
diverse audience who can view and appreciate the value of the greatest of family trees, in which
every culture finds its branch . The argument for universal museums is coupled with the instability
of Egypt that results in constant looting of Egyptian museums. Leaving us with the question of
what is the best way to protect our worlds cultural heritage? Is it best if museums already in

The Presentation Of Conformity And Subversion Of Gothic...
Discuss the presentation of conformity and subversion of gothic archetypes
The gothic genre has been a prominent literary style throughout many eras, a popular example
being The Castle of Otranto . I have studied three texts; Emile Bronte s novel Wuthering Heights
, published in December 1847, The Selected Poems of John Keats , published in 1817 and the
later The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter, published in 1979. They all use gothic elements in
different ways to create a variety of effects and reflect on their own personal views, Carter in
particular as a post modern writer and Keats confusion of sexuality.
The three texts I have studied all conform to the gothic genre in similar ways such as, the use of
setting (use Gothic conventions to develop setting). For example in The Eve of St Agnes the
primary setting is a medieval castle which is portrayed as being sinister and isolated, Keats
describes a lowly arched way , the adjective lowly suggests the insignificance and unimportance of
the castle. The cobwebs could further highlight the fact that the castle is old and has remained
uninhabited for a number of years suggesting an ominous presence. In addition to this, it could also
suggest the prescence of insects and spiders within the castle connoting danger and eeriness
creating a spine chilling atmosphere. Keats further makes use of the gothic setting within Madeline
s bedroom Similarly, Bronte creates a highly gothic setting in Wuthering HeightsLockwood

A Hero Is A Hero
What if you were trapped in a burning building with nobody to come and save you? People need
heroes. Whether you are being robbed or your house is on fire, you need a hero. There is a
reason that heroes are so liked, needed, and wanted in our modern world. It s because heroes
instill order where there is chaos by having the kindness to do something that s right, like stand up
to a bully, but also by having the kindness to do something like rescue a cat from a tree.
The first thing that anybody needs when trying to be a hero is courage to do something right. A
hero has to have the courage to do something that is right no matter how hard or how big the task
really is. The man in the water is a good example of this because Lenny Skutnik didn t hesitate
for a split second about jumping into the water to save that lady and the man that was in the
water didn t hesitate about passing on the life preserver. It s something I never thought I would
do referring to his jumping into the water to drag an injured woman to shore... somebody had to
go in the water (pg 12 Man in the Water). He jumped in the water to save someone because he
knew that it was the right thing to do and he had the courage to do it. Every time they lowered a
lifeline and floating ring to him he passed it on to another of the passengers. (pg 12 Man in the
Water). The man in the water also had the courage to do what was right because even though he
knew he would probably die, he wanted the others to live which takes a tremendous amount of
courage. Whale Tale is also a good example for this because Michael Fishbach risked everything,
life and boat, to help a humpback whale. He swam into the water with the humpback whale that
was tangled up in the net knowing all to well that he could die from one frantic movement and
that is the courage that makes him a hero, he also was cutting the net off of the whale and had to
let it tow him around knowing that it could tip over the boat in an instant and that is why he is
recognized as a hero and that is because he had the courage to do something right while knowing
that he and his crew could have died. In order to believe in yourself as a hero and in order to be
recognized as a hero you have to

  • 2. The Meaning Of Culture In Greek Literature In the Greek literature that I read, I have identified the informing symbol for this culture is finding the meaning of life. The Atwood theory, discussed in class, is that at the heart of any country or culture is a single unifying and informing symbol. Atwood s theory gives the country or culture its identity and strength. The literature of the country or culture probably is what shows this symbol the best. The stories that I read are and dreams are dreams , stories of taxi drivers , and the white bear from the book ....and dreams are dreams by Vassilis Vassilikos. I also read Zorba the Greek, a novel by Nikos Kazantzakis. They were a useful source for finding the Greek symbol of life. Each story does a decent job in showing the meaning of life for the country for Greece. Zorba the Greek explores where and how to find meaning in life in a world where the author emphasizes we are all fated to die. The novel tells us how we should live and knowing that we will die soon. In Zorba the Greek, the narrator, the thirty five year old Boss, goes to Greece to reopen a mine he owns in Crete, and to learn to understand the life of the common, working class person. He meets an older man named Zorba, who lives largely unthinkingly in the world. Zorba is a lower class than the narrator, has worked with his hands and has been a lover. The narrator hires him as a foreman for the mine. Zorba is hardworking and absorbed in living with enjoyment in the moment while the narrator tries ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Anne Frank Reflection The Holocaust was a horrific event in human history that took place in the early 1930s through the mid 1940s. This was when millions of Jews and other people who were thought to be a race and were sent to concentration camps by those who refer to as evil people. Although many people thought this, one girl, Anne Frank, who was a Jewish girl in hiding, said this: In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart. Regarding all of the hate and struggles Anne and her family faced, she still saw good in everyone and everything that happened. After reading the playbased on Anne s real diary she kept while in hiding, I have to agree with her famous quote. One of the main reasons I agree with Anne is because of the empathy Mr. Frank showed for her daughter when times were scary. Now, I do understand that all arguments have two sides and that there are some who don t agree with me, according to Mr. Van Daan s selfishness and greed. Now, I m sure some of you are saying that there are more acts of kindness throughout the play, and I agree with you, but what convinced me to side with Anne and her thought is when her father, Mr. Frank, attended to her needs after a nightmare she had. On page 64, the following dialogue takes place: Mr. She accidentally woke everyone else up with her screaming, and her father decided to take care of Anne and let everyone else go back to sleep. Unlike Mr. Van Daan, Mr. Frank, or Anne s father, showed that he has empathy for his daughter and would do anything to make sure that she was okay. And by asking if she wanted him to read to her really showed that he really cared about her. His act not only shows empathy for Anne, but that he s there for her when she needs him and that he doesn t just care about himself, but about others. And by doing so, Mr. Frank stayed with her until she fell asleep. He was doing what any father should do. Now, just because I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Suicide Is The Second Most Common Form Of Death Essay Suicide is the second most common form of death in adolescence. Flip through any peer reviewed journal article, and you will see that this is not just a myth. In fact, in Canada, 10.3 adolescent males and females take their life for every 100,000 people in the national population every year (WHO, 2007). In the United States, that number is almost double at 17.8 adolescent males and females for every 100,000 individual aged 15 24 (WHO, 2007). For over the last decade, researchers from all parts of the world have been at work trying to piece together what it is that triggers and pushes teenagers into making the ultimate decision and take their life. In Norway, researchers came up with four possible factors: the parents regarding poor communication, previous suicidal ideation, alcohol and drug abuse, and frequency and variances of depression and mental disorder developments (Herrestad, Mehlum, Nrugham). In support of the finding, adolescents in Thailand who had attempted suicideclaimed that they had done so due to severe parenting criticisms, which threw them into a state of depression and rendered them uncontrollable of their actions and emotions (Arunpongpaisal, Rungreangkulkij, Sukhawaha, 2016). In another study conducted in the United States, Caucasian and Hispanic adolescents between the ages of 13 and 18 claimed they were 1 1/2 times more likely to have suicidal thoughts if they fell into an addiction with alcohol after having been sexually assaulted (Behnken, ... • 8. South Virginia s Coal Industry The coal industry has helped fuel this nation for 150 years, and coal can be used to heat our homes, power our economy, and protect our nation for at least another 150 years if we continue to use it. Tim Murphy. Coal has an interesting history in West Virginia, which has contributed significantly to the improvement and livelihood of West Virginians since its first discovery, which is now Boone County in 1742 by Peter Salley, more than a century before West Virginia, became a state. The coalindustry has played a major role in the state s economic, political and community history. The industry has also been a center of debate and the impact of unfounded criticism, giving rise to battles in the arenas of labor, environment and safety. Since 1742, West Virginia has provided our nation and the world with the finest coal found anywhere. As of today, West Virginia s coal miners apply useful and effective mineral removal technology that makes other countries envy their counterparts around the world. West Virginia s exports more coal than any other state in the country. West Virginia has more longwall mining systems than any other state. This leads the nation in underground coal productions and sets the pace for the rest of the industry in recovery and environment protection. Aspects of life and death are shown throughout the movie, but the film mainly explains three key aspects of Buddhism. Buddhist teachings of reincarnation, impermanence, and enlightenment, are connected deeply to each other and is illustrated throughout the film. The first Buddhist teaching of reincarnation is evident from the beginning of the movie. The audience starts to see these teachings when a Buddhist teacher is making it evident to his student (Lama Norbu) that he is ready to reincarnate, after he passes away. It subtly explained that death is not permanent as it is merely a temporary state of one s soul that will cycle on. The films depiction of impermanence gives the viewers the message of change and how it is a part of life we all go through, however, death is not permanent. Nothing is forever in life, everyone goes through changes that are positive and negative just like the films element of impermanence, that provide the natural changes in the challenges of life. For instance, when one of the reincarnates child s father s brother dies and they experience a difficult death, which is also showing that life is not finite. Another illustration of impermanence and a lesson of reincarnation is a scene where Lama Norbu explains what it means to reincarnate and its relation to the religion. He explains that the mind and the body is like the content and the container . He illustrates this by smashing his cup of tea, and states, the cup is not a cup anymore. Yet where is the tea? • 11. The Is A Vessel For The Soul Essay Ancient religions tend to believe that the body is merely a vessel for the soul. Some, in their quest to achieve a more significant spiritual attachment with God, have lambasted their bodies as symbols of weakness and seek to rectify it through self mutilation or starvation. In Judaism, for example, the Old Testamentcommands that the body be kept sacred. This restricts self mutilation and even tattoos. However, fasting is still permitted and even encouraged. Aside from the commanded Old Testament fast days such as Yom Kippur, there are other Rabbinic fast days throughout the year, and stories abound of Rabbi s fasting routinely as a means of drawing themselves closer to their soul and to God. Tradition even claims that Moses fasted for forty days upon the mountain before receiving the Old Testament from God. Within Christianity, however, many went even further. Instead of just fasting, many actively starved themselves and inflicted bodily harm upon them. Fasting does remain a significant part, though, as proven by Jesusfasting for forty days and other Saints following his example. This was a trait of Saints, who insisted on going through severe trials and tribulations in order to conquer their own bodies. Some Saints would even make the ultimate sacrifice of Martyrdom. Often, this was more pronounced among women who had the additional impurities that were not as pronounced in men. Rev Michael Geisler of St. Louis speculates that the purpose of the self mutilation was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So in the two poems he has used different styles of portraying the scene, in Follower he uses subtle hints of metaphors such as mapping the furrow exactly , which describes him as a sailor which is referring back to his shoulders globed as a full sail strung . • 14. Atomic Theory And The Study Of Matter Atomic Theory and the Study of Matter Matter is anything made up of atoms and molecules and the study of these things called atoms dates back to the time of Ancient Greece to the present. The information about atoms known today is certainly much greater than what was known centuries ago. First, there was only hypotheses on this idea that everything in the world is made up of tiny, unseeable particles. As technology advanced, these hypotheses were tested, critiqued, modified, and built upon. A mass of knowledge is known regarding atoms, thanks to the research of numerous chemists and physicists. The atomic theory is the building block to the study of matter just as the atomis the building block to all matter. Around 400 BCE was when the Greek philosopher Democritus, alone with his teacher Leucippus, the idea of the atom was born (the word atom comes from the Greek word atomos or atomon meaning that which cannot be split ). This was a completely new concept, and Democritus s theory stated that atoms were indestructible and homogenous, and different states of matter were made up of differently shaped atoms: solids had sharp and pointy atoms and liquids had large round atoms. Later these ideas would be proved inaccurate, however, this was the beginning of the discovery of the atom even though the people of this time had no instruments capable of testing the theory. In the concept of human being it involves to follow our destiny. The concept of path raise much debate mostly about whether our path is deciding by us or someone else. Many christian argue that their path is already written before they even born, but in my point of view we are the only master of our path because of our power to choose and decide. In my point of view our path is deciding by us because we are able to take our own decision. For example when I was much younger I decided by myself to get involve in sport activity. It only happens because I choose and because I wanted to that let think that obviously I chose my path and the route that I want to follow. In the Hunger games Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister place in the Hunger Game. The fact that the game s organizer let her volunteer mean to me she chooses her path which was participated in the hunger game. Everything that follow was just the result of her choice. In that same way the power I have to choose to play sport would have consequence such meet new people, travel to new, and do thing which will follow with consequences. [11] suggested an algorithm to compare the Equal Error Rates(EER) obtained from the touch screen sensor with the rates of keystrokes in hardware keyboard. A developed keyboard application replaces the system keyboard to capture features in any application that uses a keyboard. The features are then stored in a SQLite database and classified by a one class SVM. The speech, given at an anti gayconference titled Exposing the Truth behind Homosexualityand the Homosexual Agenda , linked homosexuality with child molestation and the destruction of African families and laid the foundation for what was to become a virulently homophobic movement in Uganda. Basically, he give a group of children a cookie and he give them to option either they could eat the cookie immediately or they can wait until he come back however if they wait for him to back they will receive another cookie. Based on his experiment he conclude that the kid who resist to eat cookie and wait for him to gain another cookie they will do better in the school than the kids who did not resist. For instances, they will get higher sat scores than who eat the cookie immediately. So, I try to do the experiment on students who are in regular classes and they need special helps from the teacher. Based on the results, I realize only freshman and sophomore find it difficult to candy seniors are also found difficult to resist candy. • 29. The Pros And Cons Of Child Rearing One of the most heavily debated aspects of abuse when it comes to child rearing is defining what abuse is relative to the cultural traditions of a society. More particularly, these cultural specific patterns of child rearing have been one of the most controversial topics in terms of child abuse because what might seem as abusive for some cultures might not exactly be seen as such in another (Bornstein, 1991). A good example of this type of duality would be the difference between Western and Eastern Standards of child rearing and control. In the United States, spanking and badmouthing is considered to be abusive in the sense that policies have even been established to mitigate these behaviors from the parents. However, in countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, and China, among others, spanking and use of bad words are considered to be normal as long as it is within acceptable limits (e.g. not inflicting grave injuries and permanent marks). Nevertheless, contrary to what the western perspective thinks about the use of intense physical and verbal means of rearing the child, children in the East are not exactly those how would experience psychological abuseor other types of emotional repercussions, because in the first place they know exactly what the is the purpose of acts like this. Now, this poses the question, if child rearing is relative, what would be considered as abusive and not, especially in terms of the verbal and psychological aspects of it. According to Pingleton ... According to Rock and Schwartz (2006), psychology and neuroscience research have gained a new perspective on how different areas of the brain determine human behavior. In particular, when individuals are exposed to situations that include changing a specific behavior, there are two main reasons that make changing the behavior a pain. One of these reasons relates to the nature of human memory and its relationship to conscious attention (Rock Schwartz, 2006, p. 3). As per Rock and Schwartz (2006), routine activities that take place in the working memory area of individuals brain require less effort and energy from individuals to perform than new activities which takes place in the basal ganglia of the brain; for example, driving to work versus taking a standardized test (e.g., GRE, CPA,... As per Rock and Schwartz (2006) stated that the orbital frontal cortex of the human brain tends to perceive change as errors; consequently, this evokes overwhelming emotions that requires a high demand of energy and leads individuals to behave irrational by depriving the prefrontal brain region from energy. • 38. The Theme Of Light Vs Dark In Romeo And Juliet Love plays a crucial part in people s lives. Not only is it the foundation of one s well being, but it also affects those included in that circle. With this in mind, love can overpower negativity and conflicts. However, if one is not able to persuade the importance of their devotion, they can become consumed by darkness. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the author incorporates the motif of light vs. dark to convey the theme that an individual s love surmounts any feelings of hatred. The mechanism of this plasticity has not yet been satisfactorily explained by any theory, At present three theories contest the field the colloid, the soluble salt, and the molecular attraction theories (Stephenson, 1912, p. 14). Traditional ceramics can be divided into three categories based on the chemicals and properties of the clays. These types are china clay which you know to be porcelain, ball clay which is malleable , and fire clay which is refractory (Stephenson, 1912, p.12). China clay is our first type of ceramic. China clay is used to make porcelain (Stephenson, 1912, p. 12). To some, there are strict walls that separate classical from baroque music and jazz from the blues, but to others, the many overlapping qualities between opera and operettas make the line between their labels very thin and blurry. The musiccommunity may struggle with this conversation for many years to come and it is possible that distinct guidelines used to determine a composition s musical genre will never be agreed upon. • 45. Peter Berger ( 1967 ) Introduction As Peter Berger (1967) explained religion, it is a sacred canopy under which the entirety of life is explained and regulated. Secularization theory as explained by Weber holds that modernity challenges this sacred canopy through two major ways: increased cultural and structural pluralism and increased primacy of economic pursuits (Emerson and Hartman, 2006:129). With globalisation accelerating in the post Cold War era, causing mass migration across borders, increased interstate interaction and huge growth in the global financial market, it was predicted that religious influence would be relegated to the private sectors of social life by ripping the sacred canopy, and leaving people with, at best, sacred umbrellas (Smith 1998). Despite this, what secularization theory did not anticipate is that the demystification of the world provided within it the seeds both for the re mystification of the world and resistance to the demystification (Berger, 1992:1). Hence the world today, with some exceptions, is as furiously religious as it ever was, in some places more so than ever (Berger, 1999:8). Since the 1970s there has been a particular rise in religious fundamentalist movements, as signalled by the Iranian Revolution in 1979 led by Ayatollah Khomeini, which led to the establishment of the first Islamic State. As Almond et al note, fundamentalist movements have risen to the highest levels of power in Sudan in 1993, Afghanistan and India in 1996, and in India again ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Red is very reluctant to accept hope, even stating in the film Hope is a dangerous thing; hope can drive a man insane and this is expressed through shadows cast on him whilst Andy is shown in the light. This idea of hopelessness exaggerates the redemption of hope expressed later on in the film, an example of this is right at the very start of the film when the man is beaten so badly by the prison guards that he dies, Andy s asks a key question that nobody can answer; What was his name? . This hopelessness is then contrasted when the friendships are formed later on in the film, when everybody becomes close, which is confirmed when Andy bargains with the guards and consequently wins three bottles of beer for each of his work mates. Andy s friends and he are regularly shown laughing together or helping one another to cope, Darabont successfully reflects hope into the eyes of the viewer through these friendships. Gestures such as the harmonica illuminate this point when Red begins to create music. Music is constantly used in the film as an icon of hope; it is used throughout the whole film in various different ways, to express and exaggerate different emotions that the characters are feeling. Egypt s demands stretch from museums in the United States to Europe, with growing controversy from both sides as to who rightfully owns these historical artifacts. Simply put, all artifacts discovered in Egypt do technically belong to Egypt. Egyptian museums should have the right to showcase the history of their ancient predecessors by showcasing the material culture of their past uncovered from that time. Discuss the presentation of conformity and subversion of gothic archetypes The gothic genre has been a prominent literary style throughout many eras, a popular example being The Castle of Otranto . I have studied three texts; Emile Bronte s novel Wuthering Heights , published in December 1847, The Selected Poems of John Keats , published in 1817 and the later The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter, published in 1979. They all use gothic elements in different ways to create a variety of effects and reflect on their own personal views, Carter in particular as a post modern writer and Keats confusion of sexuality. The three texts I have studied all conform to the gothic genre in similar ways such as, the use of setting (use Gothic conventions to develop setting). For example in The Eve of St Agnes the primary setting is a medieval castle which is portrayed as being sinister and isolated, Keats describes a lowly arched way , the adjective lowly suggests the insignificance and unimportance of the castle. The cobwebs could further highlight the fact that the castle is old and has remained uninhabited for a number of years suggesting an ominous presence. In addition to this, it could also suggest the prescence of insects and spiders within the castle connoting danger and eeriness creating a spine chilling atmosphere. Keats further makes use of the gothic setting within Madeline s bedroom Similarly, Bronte creates a highly gothic setting in Wuthering HeightsLockwood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 57. A Hero Is A Hero What if you were trapped in a burning building with nobody to come and save you? People need heroes. Whether you are being robbed or your house is on fire, you need a hero. There is a reason that heroes are so liked, needed, and wanted in our modern world. It s because heroes instill order where there is chaos by having the kindness to do something that s right, like stand up to a bully, but also by having the kindness to do something like rescue a cat from a tree. The first thing that anybody needs when trying to be a hero is courage to do something right. A hero has to have the courage to do something that is right no matter how hard or how big the task really is. The man in the water is a good example of this because Lenny Skutnik didn t hesitate for a split second about jumping into the water to save that lady and the man that was in the water didn t hesitate about passing on the life preserver. It s something I never thought I would do referring to his jumping into the water to drag an injured woman to shore... somebody had to go in the water (pg 12 Man in the Water). He jumped in the water to save someone because he knew that it was the right thing to do and he had the courage to do it. Every time they lowered a lifeline and floating ring to him he passed it on to another of the passengers. (pg 12 Man in the Water). The man in the water also had the courage to do what was right because even though he knew he would probably die, he wanted the others to live which takes a tremendous amount of courage. Whale Tale is also a good example for this because Michael Fishbach risked everything, life and boat, to help a humpback whale. He swam into the water with the humpback whale that was tangled up in the net knowing all to well that he could die from one frantic movement and that is the courage that makes him a hero, he also was cutting the net off of the whale and had to let it tow him around knowing that it could tip over the boat in an instant and that is why he is recognized as a hero and that is because he had the courage to do something right while knowing that he and his crew could have died.
