Monitoring and reporting
Why to monitor and report?
Because of articles 11 and 17 of Habitat Directive (92/43/EEC)
Training “Implementation of Habitats Directive - Habitats and Plants“
Article 17
Every six years from the date of expiry of the period laid down in Article
23, Member States shall draw up a report on the implementation of the
measures taken under this Directive. This report shall include in particular
information concerning the conservation measures referred to in Article 6 (1)
as well as evaluation of the impact of those measures…
Article 11
Member States shall undertake surveillance of the conservation status of
the natural habitats and species referred to in Article 2 with particular regard
to priority natural habitat types and priority species.

How do we monitor in Slovakia?
It is similar like management plan mapping, but it needs
some extra parameters to be collected
- Elaboration of 212 methods for monitoring species/habitats (web link, example)
- Designation of 8 338 permanent monitoring localities (map link)
- Development of information and monitoring system (web link)
- Development of field mapping logistic (web link, example)
- More than 200 experts
- Field monitoring visits more 14 000 during 3 years
- Budget for biological component 2,4 mil. Euros
