Media has become more real to people than actual events as people experience events through media rather than direct experiences. People know celebrities more through their media personas than their actual personalities. As a result, fictional films and characters can feel more realistic as people connect more with characters that seem less "faked". The copy or representation of something in media can become more popular or real than the original thing it represents.
