Tech M&A Monthly: Deal Structures TodayCorum Group
Today’s combination of active public markets, resurgent IPOs and a growing pool of buyers means that deal structures are getting more complex as buyers and sellers get creative in order to get deals done. The September edition of Tech M&A Monthly will examine some of the many ways that structure is more important than price in many cases, following up on last year’s highly-praised webcast on the topic. When is a profit sharing agreement appropriate? What’s the role of consulting agreements? How do cross-border issues complicate matters? September 10, Corum dealmakers will address these questions and more, drawing on the largest body of tech M&A in history. In addition, we’ll examine the key deals, trends and valuations from the past month in the Horizontal, Infrastructure and Consumer technology markets.
This document proposes a personal databank application to help users manage their private memories and digital assets throughout different life stages. It notes that people currently lack control over their personal data, which is often collected and used by large tech companies. The proposed solution is a personal cloud application that feels like a trusted friend or attorney, allows users to organize their memories and put their affairs in order, and promises never to sell personal data or compromise privacy. It presents an MVP, roadmap, and business model focused on freemium pricing to attract users before offering premium services.
The document discusses current business drivers and trends affecting various industries. It notes that many industries are facing volatility, uncertainty, lack of demand and credit, and rising unemployment due to the global recession. The automotive and oil & gas industries in particular are dealing with overcapacity, need for more efficient vehicles, pressure to cut costs and improve profitability, and delayed projects. The document also summarizes trends in automation, enterprise software, PLM/engineering software and argues that newer technologies can help US manufacturers become more competitive by standardizing processes and improving asset management.
The document discusses radical innovation and the new style of business required to address emerging megatrends and technological changes. It notes that current IT infrastructure strategies are unsustainable given demands for mobility, cloud services, big data and social engagement. The new style of IT must align to six megatrends: engaging and transacting through cloud, mobility, big data, automation, security and delivering new experiences that are context aware, seamless and secure. It also discusses moving from products to services and the need for both big innovations that create change as well as little innovations that perfect the current state.

Big Data: Infrastructure Implications for “The Enterprise of Things” - Stampe...StampedeCon
At StampedeCon 2014, Jean-Luc Chatelain (DDN) presented 'Big Data: Infrastructure Implications for “The Enterprise of Things”.'
The amount of data in our world has been exploding, and storing and analyzing large data sets—so-called big data—will become a key basis of competition for the new “Enterprise of Things”, underpinning fresh waves of productivity growth, innovation, and consumer surplus. Leaders in every sector – from government to healthcare to finance – will have to grapple with the implications of big data, as data growth continues unabated for the foreseeable future. The quest to make sense of all this big data begins with breaking down data silos within organizations using the cost appropriate, shared infrastructure to ensure optimal extraction and analysis of data, knowledge and insight.
As the leading global e-commerce service, PayPal has transformed the way the company leverages big data storage and hyper-scale analytics to help improve both the safety and purchasing experiences of its online customers. In this discussion, using real-world customer examples such as PayPal, we will explore what Big Data Storage is from high performance file sharing to long-term archiving, as well as ways to break down data silos to reduce the cost and storage complexity of managing demanding workflows and data environments. We will demonstrate how hyperscale storage can enable near-real-time, stream analytics processing for behavioral and situational modeling, as well as for fraud detection, marketing and systems intelligence. We will ask what the greatest barriers to effective business analytics are and how today’s data analytics platforms, including Hadoop, Vertica, Python and Java, can be optimized to enable machine learning, event streaming, forecasting, and reduce overhead associated with human intervention. You’ll come away from this session understanding the infrastructure implications and options for organizations looking to maximize their big data for competitive advantage.
Dell Computer Inc. was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell when he was 19 years old. He started the company by buying excess inventory from retailers, adding features, and reselling PCs out of his car. Dell grew rapidly in the 1980s and 1990s to become an internationally known brand, known for its direct business model and competitive pricing. However, in the 2000s Dell began facing more competition as the PC market became commoditized. Dell has since shifted more towards enterprise services and solutions while also closing manufacturing plants and outsourcing production to remain competitive. The strategy audit evaluates Dell's vision, mission, corporate governance, and external factors like regulations to provide an overview of the company.
