Gradation of fine aggregate by sieve analysisMuhammad Saleem
1. This document summarizes a student's laboratory experiment analyzing the gradation of fine aggregate through sieve analysis.
2. Sieve analysis involves separating a dried aggregate sample through a series of sieves to determine the particle size distribution, which is then compared to specifications.
3. The student's results found the fineness modulus of 3.35 for the tested aggregate sample, which is outside the specified range of 2.2-3.2, indicating the aggregate did not meet specifications.
This report describes an experiment to determine the elongation index of an aggregate sample. The experiment involved sieving the sample into different size fractions and measuring the mass of particles that were able to pass through an elongation gauge, which was 1.8 times the size of each fraction. The elongation index was calculated as the percentage of elongated particles, which was found to be 9.18% for this sample. While conducting the experiment, some errors may have occurred during sieving and weighing. The conclusion is that the sample contained flaky and elongated particles, making it unsuitable for certain construction applications without additional compaction.
The document discusses soil consistency and Atterberg limits. It defines consistency as the firmness of cohesive soils, which varies with water content. Atterberg limits - liquid limit, plastic limit, and shrinkage limit - define the boundaries between solid, semi-solid, plastic, and liquid states. Tests are described to determine these limits and classify soil consistency. The plasticity index is also discussed as it relates to soil classification.

Act II of Othello begins with a storm disrupting the Turkish fleet from attacking Cyprus. Cassio arrives but Othello is delayed. Iago sows seeds of doubt about Cassio and Desdemona. He convinces Roderigo to attack Cassio that night. At a party, Iago gets Cassio drunk and instigates a fight between Cassio and Roderigo. Cassio is disgraced and stripped of his rank, while Iago maintains an appearance of honesty and concern.
The poem "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes conveys a mother's advice to her son about persevering through life's difficulties. Through informal language and repetition, the mother describes life as an arduous climb up a "crystal stair" full of obstacles like splinters and boards torn up. She encourages her son not to give up or turn back when facing challenges, as she herself has continued climbing despite hard times. The poem empowers the son and reader with the message that courage and determination are needed to overcome life's hurdles.
The poem depicts soldiers waiting in freezing conditions in the trenches during World War I. The soldiers are numb to their surroundings after enduring the brutal weather and constant shelling. They have lost faith after being subjected to the horrors of war and question why they are forced to remain in such miserable conditions. By the end of the poem, the soldiers have become shells of themselves as they face the prospect of freezing to death in the mud, their humanity stripped away by the unforgiving experience of trench warfare.

DCC3113 DETERMINATION OF AGGREGATE IMPACT VALUE.YASMINE HASLAN
This document summarizes a laboratory report on determining the aggregate impact value of samples according to Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR) standards. The experiment involved subjecting aggregate samples to impact blows using a test machine and sieve. The percentage of fines passing through a 2.36mm sieve was calculated to determine the aggregate impact value. Sample 1 had a 17% impact value and Sample 2 was 15%, both below the JKR requirement of 20%, indicating the aggregates have medium toughness and resistance to crushing. The results show the aggregates met the JKR specifications and the experiment was successfully conducted.
The poem describes the poet looking at a photograph of her mother from her childhood at the beach with her cousins. The photograph brings back memories of time spent with her mother that is now in the past. It also reminds the poet that her mother has been dead for nearly as long as the girl in the photograph was alive. The finality of death leaves the poet feeling silenced and unable to express the loss through words.
This document discusses the significance and symbolism of scaffold scenes in Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel The Scarlet Letter. It explains that the scaffold is used to execute criminals and serves as the setting for three important scenes between Hester Prynne, Pearl, and Arthur Dimmesdale. The scaffold represents penance, punishment, unity, and serves as the foundation of Puritan society. It is where Hester is forced to publicly display her sin and where Dimmesdale later confesses his role in Hester's adultery, seeking repentance. The three scaffold scenes provide structure to the story and symbolize key themes like sin, confession, and exposure of truth.
The poem describes a mother's emotions as her son leaves home to join the army. In the first stanza, the mother remembers pinning a poppy to his lapel as she struggles to contain her emotions. After he has gone, she visits his bedroom overwhelmed with grief. The final stanza finds her at a war memorial, leaving it ambiguous whether her son has died or she simply misses and worries for him. Throughout, the mother is consumed by memories of her son as represented by the poppy.
The poem "Charge of the Light Brigade" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson memorializes the British Light Brigade's disastrous charge against Russian forces during the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War. In 6 stanzas of rhyming couplets, Tennyson recounts how 600 cavalrymen were ordered to charge directly into enemy cannons despite being outnumbered and surrounded. Over 150 soldiers were killed or injured in the failed attack. Though a strategic mistake, Tennyson focuses on honoring the bravery and sacrifice of the Light Brigade, who obeyed orders without question and fought nobly against overwhelming odds in the "valley of Death."
Siegfried Sassoon was an English poet and author born in 1886 who served in World War I. He was educated at prestigious schools and universities but did not complete his degree. Motivated by patriotism, he joined the British Army at the start of WWI and was awarded the military cross for bravery, though he later renounced it. After nearly facing court martial for protesting the war, he was admitted to a hospital for shell shock where he met poet Wilfred Owen. Sassoon wrote realistic, bleak poetry about his wartime experiences and after the war focused on religious poetry. He died in 1967 in Wiltshire, England.

The poem describes a traveller's account of remnants of a statue in the desert. The statue is all that remains of a once-mighty king, Ozymandias, whose inscription boasts of his great works and power. However, the statue is now in ruins, its features barely discernible. The poem suggests that no matter a ruler's pride and power, time will erode all human achievements and civilizations to nothing.
This document is an advertisement for a program that claims to teach 5000 collegiate words through listening to audio lessons for 15 minutes a day for 4 weeks. It includes sample words like "abase", "abbot", and "abdicate" along with brief definitions. The program is offered on 7 CDs and also includes a free memory course.
The short story "Misery" by Anton Chekhov follows a Russian sledge driver named Iona Potapov whose son recently died. Overcome with grief, Iona tries sharing his loss with passengers but finds that no one will listen or show sympathy. He finally tells the story of his son's death to his horse, the only one who listens patiently. The central theme is the isolation of grief when society offers no human connection or compassion.
Positive pore water pressure occurs below the groundwater table where the soil is fully saturated and the pressure exceeds atmospheric pressure. Negative pore water pressure occurs above the groundwater table where the soil is unsaturated and the pressure is below atmospheric pressure. The magnitude of negative pore pressure, also called soil suction, is controlled by surface tension at air-water boundaries in the pores and depends on grain size, with finer soils having higher negative pore pressure. Rainfall can increase soil saturation and reduce the magnitude of negative pore pressure.
1. The aggregate impact test determines a material's resistance to sudden shock or impact. Road stones must withstand pounding from traffic.
2. The test involves compacting aggregates between 10-12.5mm in a metal cylinder, subjecting it to 15 blows from a falling hammer, then sieving to determine the percentage passing a 2.36mm sieve.
3. The aggregate impact value is calculated as the percentage, by weight, of fines produced by the impact blows that pass through the 2.36mm sieve. A lower percentage indicates stronger aggregates that better resist impact.
1. The document describes a procedure for determining the coefficient of permeability of soil using a constant head permeameter.
2. The coefficient of permeability is a measure of how quickly water can flow through the soil and is affected by properties like particle size, void ratio, and degree of saturation.
3. The experiment involves compacting a soil sample, saturating it, then measuring the discharge of water flowing through the sample under a constant head over different time intervals to calculate the coefficient of permeability.

Leonardo da Vinci (1452 - 1519 AD) was one of the most famous artists of the Italian Renaissance, known as a painter, sculptor, architect, and inventor. The early works between 1469 and the early 1470s show Leonardo's full commitment to the complicated studies assigned to students. On April 23, 1519, Leonardo dictated his will, explaining his desire to be buried in the church of St. Florence with a funeral accompanied by priests, monks, and sixty poor people carrying torches.
