After the independence of Bangladesh, no education policy could be implemented for about four decades. Although an education policy was formulated in line with the needs of independent Bangladesh, the overthrow of secularism and nationalism by anti-liberation forces in 1975 halted all progress. Several education policies/reports were formulated afterwards but could not be properly implemented. In 2009, the newly formed government after the national election focused on formulating a new education policy to fulfill the election manifesto and meet people's aspirations. An expert committee led by national professor Kazi Shahidullah was formed and within a short time, a draft education policy was formulated after taking public opinions through online and other means of consultation.

Summary Bangladesh National Health Accounts 1997-2012Policy Adda
This report presents the results of the Bangladesh National Health Accounts (BNHA) 1997-2012. This round of BNHA has been developed and updated based on the System of Health Accounts (SHA) 2011 guidelines but also preserved the option of producing tables compatible to SHA 2001 manual for National Health Accounts. The BNHA framework used in the earlier rounds of NHA has been revised in this round (NHA-IV) through extensive consultations within BNHA cell, and the guidance of an international NHA expert. New estimation methods and data sources have been used to improve private expenditure estimates. Revisions to the framework and classifications of health accounts have also been made.
NHA-IV tracks the total health expenditure in Bangladesh between the fiscal years 1997 to 2012, cross-stratified and categorized by financing classifications, provider and function on annual basis. Its main goal is to inform national policymakers and other stakeholders of the magnitude and profile of health spending. It also serves in institutionalizing the monitoring of health outlays.
Adoption of SHA2011 provides two new financing classifications that provide more specific answers to the questions: “where does the money come from?” and “what instruments are used for fund raising?” This new classification provides better interpretation of public and private funding in the health care sector.

Road safety in bangladesh realities and challengesPolicy Adda
The presentation of a comprehensive research on road safety issues presented by Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, Executive Director, PPRC, also a former adviser to Caretaker Government.
It reveals that five districts, namely Dhaka, Chittagong, Comilla, Tangail and Sirajganj of the country are most prone to road accident. It also reveals that 38 per cent traffic accidents involve buses, which is more than any other kinds of vehicles involved in such incidents.
The research report titled 'Road safety in Bangladesh: Realities and Challenges' was launched at an event on August 13 Wednesday at The Daily Star auditorium in the capital, organised by non-governmental organisation BRAC and Power and Participation Research Center, PPRC in short. PPRC carried out the research commissioned by BRAC. Honourable communication minister Obaidul Quader attended as the chief guest.
The launch of the report was organised on the day of the third death anniversary of noted filmmaker Tareque Masud and eminent journalist Mishuk Munier, who, along with three others, were killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Manikganj Highway in 2011.
The research reveals important data and information, presenting a comprehensive scenario of the country's road safety reality. According to the analysis of the report, Most road accidents occur in a length of 57 kilometres, distributed in different stretches in different highways.
Findings of the research also challenge the popular perception that road accidents usually happen in isolated areas of highways and show that more accidents occur in the congested and busy portions ─ 40.90 per cent happen at or around bus stands, followed by 28.40 per cent accidents happening at the roadside village markets. Among different types of vehicles, bus has proved most fatal, causing 38 per cent road crashes.
WHO has identified traffic accidents as the eighth cause for unnatural death with over 1.2 million annual deaths. The research also reports reckless driving as the most frequent cause of road accidents, while lack of adequate training, unfit vehicles, problems in road structure, weak implementation of traffic law and impunity of the perpetrators remain other important causes.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
