Alexander S. Green was born in 1880 in Russia and had a difficult childhood, losing his mother at a young age and not getting along with his stepmother. He received little formal education and held many jobs, trying to become a sailor, before eventually finding success as a writer in 1906. Green lived in various cities across Russia and spent his later years in Crimea until he passed away from lung cancer in 1932.
