The Defects of the Guodian bamboo-slip

Abstract
Guodian bamboo-slip Laozi was abridged from the original work. It’s the earliest transcript
we could see. There are some faults in the text of the Guodian bamboo-slip Laozi. For example,
in Guodian bamboo-slip Laozi A slip 1, “Jue Qiao Qi Li, Dao Ze Wu You 絕巧棄利 盜賊無有”
、
should be behind “Jue Wei Qi Zuo, Min Fu Xiao Ci 絕為棄作 民復孝慈” , but the copyist invert

it. In Guodian bamboo-slip Laozi B slip 13, “Bi Ji Men 閉其門” should be behind “Sai Ji Xue
塞其穴”, but the copyist invert it. In Guodian bamboo-slip Laozi C slip 3, “Zhi Hui Chu, An You
Da Wei 智慧出 安有大偽” should be behind “Da Dao Fei, An You Ren Yi 大道廢 安有仁義”,
, ,
but the copyist miss it out. There are some faults in the transcription. For example, in Guodian
bamboo-slip Laozi A slip 1 , the transcription “辯(Bian)”should be “辨(Bian)”, and in
Guodian bamboo-slip Laozi A slip2 , the transcription “辨(Bian)”should be “ (Ban)”. In
Guodian bamboo-slip Laozi B slip9, the transcription of “堇(Jin)” should be “勤(Qin)”, not
“僅(Jin) In Guodian bamboo-slip Laozi C slip 4, “Zhi Chu Yan 之出焉”should be behind “Dao
”.

Exploration of Yuan Hongdao’s Travel Notes

Abstract
There was a prevailing climate of traveling in Late Ming Dynasty, and most of the literati had
the works recording their trips; hence among essays, travel notes have attracted much attention from
the scholars of later generations, and Yuan Hongdao’s travel notes are especially outstanding. Because
of the change of favorable or unfavorable turns in life, and the transition from realization of life, a
writer would inevitably have transformation in literary creations and thought. Yuan Zhongdao had
aimed at Yuan Hongdao’s transformation in academic thought in earlier stage and later stage to
indicate the different styles and features of his travel notes before and after. The dissertation referred
to Yuan Zhongdao’s theory, gave priority to Yuan Hongdao’s travel notes of “Jin Fan Ji” and
“Jie Tuo Ji” made in the 24th and 25th year under the reign of Emperor Wanli, deliberated his
“Ping Hua Zhai Ji” and “Sa Bi Tang Ji” made around the 28th year under the reign of Emperor
Wanli, and used them to compare with his “Hua Song You Cao” written in the 37th year under
the reign of same emperor to explore the varied styles and features of Yuan Hongdao’s travel notes
before and after, and the common elements that run through his travel notes in earlier stage and
later stage.
