Give you a sense of the work we do on health and innovation Using themes from open policy-making One of the characteristics of our work: blurring of the boundaries between policy and delivery Sometimes the techniques cited in open policy-making all feel extremely small scale e.g. prototyping, blueprinting, ethnographic insights. We use them in our work – and I know you have sessions on them later on. I’m going to try to give you a perspective of how they can be built back up again into something that can helpfully influence national policy. I’m particularly interested in this – having been part of the SCS in the Cabinet Office before joining Nesta.

- All of our work is based on experimentation Different approaches in different programmes that we run As a funder, explicitly try out different techniques to support innovation: Flexibility in grant management, skills development in innovation techniques People Powered Health Scaling up existing practice – relatively early stage but not starting from a whiteboard and a set of lego. Learning environment – learn from one another Incorporated peer insight into the selection process! Six teams across England – focused on collaborative approaches to living with long term conditions (co-production). All quite different – chosen on the basis of practice (not on a research basis).
