The Northern Spotted Owl is endangered due to habitat loss from clear-cut logging of old-growth forests it prefers. Logging has reduced its population size in British Columbia to the point of being listed as endangered on the province's Red List. Efforts to help the owls include adopting one, writing letters advocating for wildlife protection, and learning how to be a voice for endangered species. The owls were first protected in 1990 after being threatened by almost a century of logging, and continue to be monitored to assess the impacts of habitat preservation efforts.
