“Well…., what can I say? ENGLISH_C1
INTRODUCTION TO SPOKEN INTERACTION ACTIVITIES AT C1 LEVEL
1.- STARTING POINT : MCRE – B2 level - Main examples of spoken interaction and requirements
Definition: In interactive activities the language user acts alternately as speaker and listener to construct
conjointly, through the negotiation of meaning following the co-operative principle, conversational
discourse.
Main examples of interactive activities include:
• transactions • casual conversation • interview
• informal discussion • formal discussion • co-planning
• debate • negotiation • practical goal-oriented co-operation
2.- OBJECTIVE : C1 LEVEL - Spoken interaction
I can express myself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
-I can use language flexibly and effectively for social and professional purposes.
- I can formulate ideas and opinions with precision and relate my contribution skillfully to those of other
speakers.
Assuming that C1 Spoken interaction tasks will be similar to the B2 exams we´ve been working with ( only
requiring more precise structures and vocabulary) we will look into supporting structures for three main goals:
1.- GIVING OPINIONS 2.- NEGOTIATING 3.- INTERVIEWING
PART 1 : GIVING OPINIONS ( UNIT 3, OpenMind Advanced)
STATING POINT OF VIEW ON SPEAKING TOPICS
POSITIVE : I think ………………. I believe …………….. I feel……………. (strong opinion)
(not so convinced: I suppose …. I guess…… expressing hopes : I hope …. I expect ……. )
I consider that …. I reckon that ( less common)
NEGATIVE : I don´t think so / I guess not / I am not sure / I hope not
EXPRESSIONS TO INTRODUCE ONE´S OPINION :
In my opinion, ………… in my view, …………………. From my point of view, ……. It seems to me that……
To my mind…………………………… To be honest with you, I ….. (wishing to speak from the heart)
GIVING EXAMPLES : Let me illustrate my opinion with an example..
INTRODUCING GENERAL OPINIONS ( POSSIBLY SHARED BY MOST PEOPLE)
It´s crucial today........ It´s of paramount importance to….. It´s essential to underline ……..
Most people nowadays are concerned about .......
SPEAKING ABOUT YOUR INTERESTS, LIKE AND DISLIKE ( to support your opinion)
I am normally involved in............. I have always been fond of / keen on ..........
I quite enjoy........ so I spend quite some time ……………Personally, I am interested in /fascinated by ...
REACTING TO OTHER PEOPLE´S COMMENTS
Really? Is that so? Well, it had never crossed my mind….. Are you serious? ….
Do you really mean what you are saying? Have you considered the possibility of ............................?
I think what you´re saying is not really true………… Let me see if I understand what you´ve just said....
Indeed, I have also noticed that....
READ THE FOLLOWING STATEMENTS AND GIVE YOUR OPINION USING ANY OF THE EXPRESSIONS YOU KNOW.
WAIT FOR YOUR PARTNER´S COMMENTS AND REACT TO THEM.
1.- People are never satisfied with what they have; they always want something more or different.
2.- All students should be required to study art and music in secondary school.
3.- There is nothing that young people can teach older people.
4.- Children should be required to help with household tasks as soon as they are able to do so.
5.- The decisions that people make quickly are always wrong.
6.- Luck has nothing to do with success.
7.- A person should never make an important decision alone.
8.- It is better to be a member of a group than to be the leader of a group.
9.- Some football players make too much money for the work they do and the results they obtain.
10.- Men are better drivers than women because they have a natural talent for it.
