PAT ARMITSTEAD
Keynote Speaker, Facilitator and Storyteller
Humour, Engagement and Wellbeing
“You can’t lift your bottom line if your people are down”
“Pat commits the cardinal management sin of spreading joy and making people smile. If her
practices become widely adopted, going to work will become fun, and people will enjoy the
experience. Ultimately she is a dangerous subversive to dullness, mediocrity and boredom.
Why can’t we have more like her?” John Bishop - Media commentator
Pat believes the foundations of effective leadership lie in the
development of high trust environments, harnessing
emotional intelligence and enabling brave conversations.
With 16 years Nursing experience, plus NLP she is well
equipped to be delivering her Stress Management and
Workplace Wellbeing programs.
This background, coupled with 11 years as a freelance
Journalist for all news and 20:20 and 60 Minutes, brings a
bevy of communication skills to the table.
She has won 11 advertising awards, 7 Speaking awards, and
ran a multi-award winning radio show for 5 years. She was
publicly honoured at a National Civic Reception for her
radios contribution to New Zealand’s wellbeing.
She was President of the National Speakers Association NZ
2001, The Most Awarded Speaker at the 2000 NSANZ
Convention and 2002 NZ Speaker of the Year.
She has convened two International Conventions for the
National Speakers Association of New Zealand, toured
internationally with Dr Patch Adams, and appeared with
speakers such as Jack Canfield and John Demartini.
She has been a professional speaker for 15 years and is a
published author.
Pat has an extraordinary story of transforming her own life
following a series of losses at the turn of the century, and uses
the learning from this to now to teach others how to overcome
adversity, transform grief and loss, manage stress, build
resilience and achieve mastery in their chosen fields.
Her clients include :-
"Pat is one of the most positive, energetic people I have ever met. She adds enormous value to the quality of environments. It's high time we we
focussed on proactive prevention of health problems and stress. "
Robyn Stent, former Health and Disability Commissioner, NZ
“Pat and I are both professional speakers. We are also both ex Presidents of the National Speakers' Association of NZ. Pat brings a very rare
talent to the platform. She works with amazing humour; she is incredibly creative and entertaining, but her biggest talent is her 'heart'. Pat works
in the very challenging area of 'grief'. She has toured Russia with Patch Adam taking her beautiful message to orphanages there. A rare talent
indeed.” Ann Andrews CSP” May 28, 2011 1st Ann Andrews CSP, MD, The Corporate Toolbox

You are here to bring joy
Be the wind beneath their wings
• A master of personal growth and joyful empowerment
Pat shows how it is possible to find joy when it appears
there is none. Her high energy and joyful presence is
melded with her unique raw authenticity , creating an
experience that shifts perceptions and brings hope to
every soul in the room.
• She shows how challenge and support; paradox and
synchronicity appear side by side and how they meld
with the power of intention to enable transformation.
Pat also shares highlights of her tour with Patch Adams
and the lessons that came from the performing
arts. She says 'You cant lift your bottom line if your
people are down". Todays statistics for depression and
suicide call us to lead consciously thereby inspiring
hope, liberating compassion and evoking joy.
• Pat can close this keynote with a body
painted dancer who performs to “You are the wind beneath
my Wings”
“ Pat you are the Mother Theresa of joy !”
Jenny Dare
" From your butterfly images to your fingertips. I have taken on
board things that you said about standing out from the crowd,
and used them already to effect.”
Wendy Thompson Allanboyle Co

The art of Storytelling
• This high energy interactive keynote shows how
storytelling is the single most effective business asset a
person can have.
• Pat portrays the evolution of storytelling through the
ages showing how we can use these principles now to
build our personal/business brand.
• How well we can articulate our story can mean the
difference between growth and failure and is key to our
level of connectivity!
Pats says “ In the sharing of vulnerable moments we
generate a degree of trust that is the cement of all
relationship building.
• Storytelling, whether our own or others demonstrates
the passage through tragedy and triumph and we learn
who we really are and what our lives are about.
• We become part of a multi generational quilt of
community and find strengths we have forgotten.
• Pat can close this presentation with a body
painted model, who interprets an authentic Australian
mythical story about the Mimi or mischievous spirit in
Aboriginal culture.
“Pat is an artistic creative person that has passion and skills
that are beyond the ability of the average mind. Pat can
teach techniques that unleash the restrictions of our lives
and help you become a creative thinker through her fabulous
teaching and coaching skills. I have always admired Pat's
ability to combine professionalism , storytelling and creative
expression. We hope to see her showcasing her talents once
again on the world stage at the NZ Body Art Awards. ” Mem

Authentic Leadership
Shedding the mask
• in order to embody conscious leadership, you must
start by looking at how you can be of service to your
own growth, your own expansion, and your own
willingness to step outside of your comfort zone over
and over again.
• As a conscious leader, your job isn't to run around trying
to save the world. Your job is to go within, do the inner
work that allows you to show up as your most powerful,
authentic self — which will in turn inspire others to do
the same. Conscious leadership requires you to identify,
plan for, and move through the patterns that come up
every time you're about to step out of your comfort
zone.
• These patterns can be self-sabotage, procrastination,
fear of success, fear of failure, ego trips, comparison
overload, and any other number of ways that you've
learned to "play it safe"
• Pat can follow this keynote with a workshop where
participants can make their own masks , choosing to represent
the characteristics they feel no longer express who they really
are.
It was wonderful to have your input which has
encouraged people to look at life from a different
perspective and the energy to lift their horizons.
Laurie Finlayson, National HR Manager,
Kensington Swan
“ Thank you again. I left the session yesterday feeling
so uplifted and empowered to be generous to others
daily. You do great stuff.” Kerry Dewar, Learning &
Development Consultant - Sales, Coca-Cola Amatil NZ)
Facilitation and Workshops
"Pat is well ahead of her time in regard to understanding what
causes wellness and happiness within the human
condition" Kym McDonald, Owner and Managing Director –
Inner Transformational Coach, Mindgarden Coaching and
Consulting Ltd
Mental Health in the Workplace

• identifying the signs, symptoms and risks that may
impact employee wellbeing

self-care

• equipping leaders to have the brave conversations
•
How can mental health awareness benefit your
business? Employee wellbeing is a shared
responsibility
Mental health training benefits organisations, groups
and individuals to build supportive workplaces which
embrace diversity and inclusiveness.
• Organisations that seek this level of engagement with
their staff will benefit from improved communications,
increased productivity, positive workplace culture, safe
environments and greater staff retainment.
Facilitation and Workshops
The relationship between Stress,
Humour and Health
• Every year there is more evidence that your thoughts,
moods, emotions and belief systems have a
fundamental impact on the body’s basic health and
healing mechanisms.
• Candice Pert in her book, The Molecules of
Emotions, found that emotions are registered and
stored in the body in the form of chemical messages.
• Better understanding the interaction between emotions
and these chemical messages are the key to maintaining
a strong health connection between the body and the
mind.
• It is through the emotions you experience in connection
with your thoughts and daily attitudes, through the
neurochemical changes that accompany these
emotions, that your mind acquires the power to
influence whether you get sick or remain well.
In this presentation, which can be from half, full day or
2 days, participants get to see the patho-physiology of
stress and learn how to shift their perceptions, so they
can ultimately build a high nurturance organisation.
• Lets get the Laughter Police operating at your place
!! And yes we do have "laughter infringement notices"
Life is short, the outlook and prospectives you teach enrich
every corner of the being - taking the sharp edges off this
dull world. Patterson Stark, Centruion Culturist, Anti Aging
Specialist”
“Pat's commitment to bringing "joy" to the workplace is
simply unprecedented in NZ. Her energy and vitality as both
a guest speaker and consultant continue to inspire
others.” Paul Stuart, Managing Director, KiwiSchools

Facilitation and Workshops
""Three months ago I had turned and faced the growing suspicion that my husband
was capable of being the abuser that my sons were hinting at. The shock, sorrow,
guilt, disbelief and horror that consumed me as I staggered through the journey left
me exposed and totally raw. I struggled with me. I was numb, surviving on
adrenalin, so sad, devoid of anger and 'normal' grief responses. I emerged, wrapped
in my spiritual cloak and holding everybody and everything in wings of compassion. I
stepped into a journey of forgiveness and understanding for the abuser, pride for my
sons courage and a seeker of knowledge. Everyone was concerned that I was just not
coping. The final result is not only a piece of art that expresses self, griefs journey
but the revelation of my inner being and reconnection with my purpose in this time. "
Integrative Grief Education Workshop for those
ready to FINALLY experience transition from grief
to wholeness
In 2004 Pat worked for 12 month with 3 Jungian
Psychotherapists, exploring storytelling, myths, legends and
making meaning and art of life events. She created a Good
Grief program which she has been delivering ever since.
In the midst of pain, though, we often find great passion,
creativity and the development of self compassion. This
program explores grieving in context with its role and
relationship to health and wellbeing and supports people to find
meaning and fulfill their potential as a result of loss.
We grieve for that which we have loved and the
processes utilized by Pat honor that love. Grief is
perceiving there is nowhere to place our love and
sadness is love announced.

  • 7. Conference Keynotes Authentic Leadership Shedding the mask • in order to embody conscious leadership, you must start by looking at how you can be of service to your own growth, your own expansion, and your own willingness to step outside of your comfort zone over and over again. • As a conscious leader, your job isn't to run around trying to save the world. Your job is to go within, do the inner work that allows you to show up as your most powerful, authentic self — which will in turn inspire others to do the same. Conscious leadership requires you to identify, plan for, and move through the patterns that come up every time you're about to step out of your comfort zone. • These patterns can be self-sabotage, procrastination, fear of success, fear of failure, ego trips, comparison overload, and any other number of ways that you've learned to "play it safe" • Pat can follow this keynote with a workshop where participants can make their own masks , choosing to represent the characteristics they feel no longer express who they really are. It was wonderful to have your input which has encouraged people to look at life from a different perspective and the energy to lift their horizons. Laurie Finlayson, National HR Manager, Kensington Swan “ Thank you again. I left the session yesterday feeling so uplifted and empowered to be generous to others daily. You do great stuff.” Kerry Dewar, Learning & Development Consultant - Sales, Coca-Cola Amatil NZ)

  • 9. Facilitation and Workshops The relationship between Stress, Humour and Health • Every year there is more evidence that your thoughts, moods, emotions and belief systems have a fundamental impact on the body’s basic health and healing mechanisms. • Candice Pert in her book, The Molecules of Emotions, found that emotions are registered and stored in the body in the form of chemical messages. • Better understanding the interaction between emotions and these chemical messages are the key to maintaining a strong health connection between the body and the mind. • It is through the emotions you experience in connection with your thoughts and daily attitudes, through the neurochemical changes that accompany these emotions, that your mind acquires the power to influence whether you get sick or remain well. In this presentation, which can be from half, full day or 2 days, participants get to see the patho-physiology of stress and learn how to shift their perceptions, so they can ultimately build a high nurturance organisation. • Lets get the Laughter Police operating at your place !! And yes we do have "laughter infringement notices" Life is short, the outlook and prospectives you teach enrich every corner of the being - taking the sharp edges off this dull world. • 11. Facilitation and Workshops ""Three months ago I had turned and faced the growing suspicion that my husband was capable of being the abuser that my sons were hinting at. The shock, sorrow, guilt, disbelief and horror that consumed me as I staggered through the journey left me exposed and totally raw. I struggled with me. I was numb, surviving on adrenalin, so sad, devoid of anger and 'normal' grief responses. I emerged, wrapped in my spiritual cloak and holding everybody and everything in wings of compassion. I stepped into a journey of forgiveness and understanding for the abuser, pride for my sons courage and a seeker of knowledge. Everyone was concerned that I was just not coping. The final result is not only a piece of art that expresses self, griefs journey but the revelation of my inner being and reconnection with my purpose in this time. " Integrative Grief Education Workshop for those ready to FINALLY experience transition from grief to wholeness In 2004 Pat worked for 12 month with 3 Jungian Psychotherapists, exploring storytelling, myths, legends and making meaning and art of life events. She created a Good Grief program which she has been delivering ever since. In the midst of pain, though, we often find great passion, creativity and the development of self compassion. This program explores grieving in context with its role and relationship to health and wellbeing and supports people to find meaning and fulfill their potential as a result of loss. We grieve for that which we have loved and the processes utilized by Pat honor that love. Grief is perceiving there is nowhere to place our love and sadness is love announced.
