The Use of Satire in Voltaire’s Candide by Gottfried...
The Use of Satire in Voltaire s Candide Satire. According to dictionary.com it is the use of humor,
irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people s stupidity or vices, particularly in the
context of contemporary politics and other topical issues . During a time when going against the
common mindset, which at the time was philosophical optimism, was rare and often looked down
upon, using satire in order to not only communicate one s beliefs but also mock those who shared the
mainstream train of thought was key. The use of satire in Voltaire s Candide aids in the exhibition of
his pessimistic mindset towards the social, religious, philosophical, political, and scientific beliefs that
were favored during the Age of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite not believing that God created the best possible world to live in, Voltaire did believe in God.
The European Graduate School published a biography of Voltaire which remarked Voltaire was also a
fierce critique of religious traditions but that is not to say that he was averse to the idea of a supreme
being. His understanding of God was deist, he reasoned that the existence of God was a question of
reason and observation rather than of faith . This demonstrates that he did believe in and accept God,
though in an unorthodoxed way, relying wholly on his reason and observations. Not only did these
unique beliefs and idea spark some harsh feelings towards Leibniz, but they also forced Voltaire to
better mask his criticism. Thus, the employment of satire in his novels, specifically Candide.
Throughout Candide Voltaire mercilessly satirizes and mocks many aspects of philosophical
optimism. One of the most prevalent examples of this is displayed through Candide s teacher,
Pangloss. Acting as a stand in for Leibniz in the novel, Voltaire portrays him as both ignorant and
arrogant, initially introducing him as Candide s metaphysico theologo cosmoniogoly (Voltaire 15)
teacher. Pangloss s egocentric personality comes through when James the Anabaptist fell overboard on
their way to Lisbon. About to jump in after him, Candide is stopped by his wise teacher who
proclaims the Lisbon harbor was formed expressly for the Anabaptist to drown in

Sales promotion is an incentive given to the consumer to buy the company s products or services.

short term. They are usually used to cash in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, providing details about the various travel packages available by travel sites like
MakeMyTrip.com or TravelGuru.com through email to the people is nothing but sales promotions.
The additional information about various mutual funds, various insurance policies given by the
companies through any form of media can be considered as a sales promotion. This is where the
companies need to draw a line. As the article says, the company needs to inform the customer to the
intangible benefits of buying a certain policy, not just the monetary savings he will make by using the
policy.
Stimulating Demand Apart from building initial product awareness, another important use of sales
promotion is to build demand by convincing customers to make a purchase. Special promotions,
especially those that lower the cost to the customer can be employed to stimulate sales. Sales
promotion can be used as a tool to help consumer in making a choice between two similar
commodities. For example if there are no points of difference for two commodities, then sales
promotion helps consumer to make choice between the two commodities.
Reinforcing the Brand Once customers have made a purchase, sales promotion can be used to both
encourage additional purchasing and also as a reward for purchase loyalty. Loyalty programs may
include price discounts, free products etc. Many companies, including airlines and retail

Compare And Contrast The Dollhouse And The Fall Of The City
In the stories of The Dollhouse , by Katherine Mansfield, and The Fall of the City , by Alden Nowlan.
The two characters I am mainly focusing on are Teddy from The Fall of the City , and Lil from The
Dollhouse . These two characters were quite hard to find something in common, due to the different
time periods, and how Lil is not the main character in her story. But there are a few similarities with
both these stories. The reasons why i choose this story is that there are definitely some things that
there is a common ground. And also the challenge of finding those common grounds in these two
stories. My for connection I made from these story is that they are both lonely. We see that they don t

Susan B. Anthony, Nelson Mandela And The United Nations
I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in
harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal in which I hope to live for and achieve. But if
needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die. Nelson Mandela. Throughout history, humanity
has ventured to make the world a better place. In Earth s past, many different people and organizations
have strived to do good and create a positive impact on others lives. Mankind, as a whole, has chosen
to stay far from evil and make good decisions. Susan B. Anthony, Nelson Mandela, and the United
Nations organization are all significant examples of how humanity has chosen throughout history to
make good decisions. Anthony, Mandela, and the UN are all instances where a person or organization

Anthony was a woman who proves mankind chooses to make good choices. She chose to stick up not
only for herself, but all women whose rights were being denied. She stood for the equality of all
people, and she devoted her life to making a change in the way the world viewed both women and
slavery. Susan is an important historical figure who proves mankind cares about others and takes
notice of them. Susan chose to do good in the world by speaking out for equal rights, and mankind has
chosen to do good and listen to her. While some people may argue that Susan B. Anthony should not
have advocated for equality so strongly because, as a result, many laws had to be changed, Anthony is
one reason why American citizens have equal rights today. Without Anthony, women would not be
allowed to vote and would be viewed as ignoble compared to men. Laws had to change in order for
women and blacks to receive the rights they deserve, and someone had to make a stand to amend
them. Susan B. Anthony dedicated her life to campaigning for equal rights, especially for women, and
mankind should be grateful she

Soy Sauces In East Asian And Southeast Asian Cultures
Soy sauce is widely used as an important flavouring and has been integrated into the traditional
cuisines of many East Asian and Southeast Asian cultures. Despite their rather similar appearance, soy
sauces made in different cultures and regions are different in taste, consistency, fragrance and
saltiness.
Soy sauce is a salty, brown liquid made from fermented soy beans mixed with some type of roasted
grain such as wheat, barley and rice, injected with a special yeast mold, Aspergillus oryzae and
liberally flavoured with salt. The sauce s consistency can range from very thin to very thick. Flavours

Dark or old Chinese soy sauce is a dark, thick soy sauce, aged longer and added with molasses to give
it its distinctive look. This variety is mainly used as a table top seasoning, but is also used in cooking.
It has a richer flavour than light soy sauce, but is less salty.
Chinese soy sauce is made with a lower proportion of wheat than the lighter Japanese soy sauce.
Besides, Japanese style soy sauces tend to be clearer and thinner than Chinese soy sauces. Light soy
sauce from Japan has a thinner consistency and a saltier flavour than the darker varieties. It is
preferred when a darker sauce will ruin the appearance of a dish, or when a lighter flavour is sought,
especially when serving seafood.
Tamari is a deeply coloured Japanese soy sauce which has a rich texture and intense flavour. It
contains little or no wheat. Wheat free tamari can be used by people with gluten intolerance. It is the
original Japanese soy sauce, as its recipe is closest to the soy sauce originally introduced to Japan
from China. With a higher soybean content, tamari has a stronger flavour and is ideally used as a

Thought Paper
The video, Miss Representation , produced by Jennifer Siebel Newson, brings to light the challenges
that women endure on a daily basis due to stereotypes and the media s negative and one minded
representation of women. Women are viewed in a certain way that makes them receive less respect in
positions of power, because as the video shows women are viewed for their bodies and looks versus
their intellectual knowledge. The video shows that women are not appreciated for their academic
achievements, but they are appreciated for their dress size, makeup, hair, and overall looks. In today s

The film could have focused a small portion on the strength of a mother. Overall, this film opened my
eyes to the large role that the media has in portraying women. It was enlightening to view how much
American society believes in stereotypes, and the social role theory. Men and women both have the

The Development And Constant Change Of Infants Essay
The development and constant change of infants is mind blowing and incredible. Each infant develops
at approximately the same, quick pace, but each small life in the grand scheme of infant development
could vary greatly (Santrock, 2016). There are many different factors that must be considered in the
first years of life that are extremely crucial for development and change. In order to better understand
infant development, it is important to consider how each of these factors will affect the baby; three
examples of these factors are sleep patterns, eating habits, and motor development, all which impact
the general health of the infant overall.
It is relatively general knowledge that infants tend to sleep much more than the average child, adult, or
adolescent. My virtual child, Margo, in between three and eight months, was sleeping six hours out of
the night, and taking a few two hour naps during the day, consistently sleeping about 12 hours per day
(My Virtual Child, 2014). The average amount of sleep that an infant will get on any given night is
anywhere in between ten to twenty one hours per day (Santrock, 2016). Based on this knowledge, it
can be concluded that Margo s sleeping habits are not necessarily abnormal for her age. Margo was
also strictly breastfed. In the study Infant Sleep Development from 3 to 6 Months Postpartum: Links
with Maternal Sleep and Paternal Involvement, it was stated that there was correlation between infants
that were strictly breastfed at

The Native Hawaiian Culture
The culture and traditions of the Native Hawaiian people are being neglected and destroyed. Hawai i
has become home to hundreds of different ethnic groups coexisting in one place that holds it s very

true Hawaiian culture. Western interference desecrates our sacred sites and artifacts, for things like
telescopes and shopping malls. Foreigners capitalize on Hawaiian practices such as hula, making a
mockery of the tradition. The state and counties of Hawaii grant large amounts of monies to non

If the state of Hawai i were to fund Hawaiian practitioners to properly educate people and children
about the Native Hawaiian culture and their traditions, the state could profit from the business that has
already spread across the world. Hula, a traditional Hawaiian dance, is a major business in Japan and
they have managed to make Hawai i, in general, a billion dollar industry in their own country.
Interested individuals from around the world come to Hawaii to learn from kumu hula (hula teachers)
and take what they learn back to their homelands to start hula hälau (school of hula) of their own,
charging students hundreds of dollars and reaping the profits. Japanese entrepreneurs have profited
from hula, such as: workshops, festivals and competitions; the spin off sales of hula skirts,
implements, ornaments, and other accessories; or the profits reaped from organised cultural tourism
tours to visit Hawai i (Intersecting Cultures in Music and Dance Education, p 152). Some Hawaiian
musicians and kumu hula, and even showcased hula performers, have become super stars in countries
all over the world. These musicians and kumu, have even moved to Japan because of its thriving
market for Hawaiian music and dance. Like most things Hawaiian, hula has a function and those that

In the book of the dun cow, Wangerin uses the carton characteristics of Old Yeller, Robin from

At the begin of the Dun Cow Mundo Cani had no exact introduction. There was no specific time, or
place that he arrived from, no owner. He was just there, and moing louder than ever MAROOONED
(17). In this very first chapter of the book, you can conclude that this whining dog may in fact change
the whole story. Wangerin gives Mundo cani this sense that he is like a piece of gum stuck to your

By proving his worth to the farm chanticleer lets him stay, and does not expect any more from him.
But that s not the case in this story; Cani goes above and beyond and helps more and more each day.
Mundo Cani had a talent nobody would have suspected: He could run like any horse at full gallop
(60). Robin on the other hand, tries time after time to prove to batman that he should not be labeled as
the sidekick. That he should be the main hero to. Never the less Robin does help batman in more ways
than none, and is grateful for all that batman does for him. Robin just wants to have a bigger title.
Clifford the big red dog is a fan favorite. Clifford is, obviously, this big red dog who loves, is gentle,
clumsy, well meaning and helpful. Even though Clifford is this huge dog and stands out, he beats to
his own drum and does not care what people think of him.
When all these horrible things that goes on in the farm you don t hear as much from Mundo Cani as
you would think. He kind of just does his own thing. When Wyrm and Cocatrice come and attack Cani

However, the rapid growth of the Internet has introduced a completely new level of security related
problems
(1) Technology and Security issues (2) Legal issues and (3) Regulatory and Supervisory issues
The problem here is that since theOne would think that the main purpose for a bank besides managing
one s money would be giving good customer service. Excellence in customer service is the most
important tool for sustained business growth. Customer complaints are part of the business life of any
corporate entity. This is more so for banks because banks are service organizations. As a service
organization, customer service and customer satisfaction should be the prime concern of any bank.
Banks believe that by providing prompt and efficient service on to their customers, this is essential not
only to attract new customers, but also to retain existing ones because customer dissatisfaction would
spoil the bank s name and image. To provide this kind of service more fast and efficient, the major
weapon of bank is e banking.
There are several Research Design techniques that can be used to identify customer perceptions about

Benevolent Sexism Essay
Benevolent sexism is a courteous attitude toward women (which feels favorable) but in actuality is
sexist because the motivation behind it casts women as weak individuals in need of men s assistance.
This evaluation of gender only appears subjectively positive, yet damages gender equality. Benevolent
sexism is harmful because of the motivation that drives it. However, if the motivation of the individual
(men or women) assisting is not based on the original assumption that women are weak individuals
that need help, I believe purely chivalrous actions makes a better world and should be encouraged.
The friendly, fuzzy feelings from benevolent sexism come at a cost, [they]..aren t all sunshine and
butterflies (Tannenbaum, 2013). Even though they benefit women (compliments, perks), benevolent
sexism often creates a damaging stereotype for women in male dominated fields. The motivation
behind the chivalrous acts directed towards women comes from the traditional gender stereotyping of
masculine dominance, thus proposing inequality based on gender. ... Show more content on

North Carolina State University s Environmental...
Introduction During this semester I traveled with the North Carolina State University s Environmental
Technology and Management program ET 201 class, under the direction of Dr. Teresa Litzenberger, to
Little Rock Creek in Raleigh North Carolina. Little Rock Creek is a small stream located in southeast
raleigh near the Walnut Creek Wetland Center. Located in a watershed of approximately 705.879
acres, the creek looks like an upside down uppercase L from a map perspective. The creek floor is
sandy with a few small rocks (cobblestone) in areas. The stream has plenty of tree cover to provide
shade. However, the lack of large trees encourages the curves in the creek to widen which allows the
water to slow down and create pools throughout the creek. According to Title 15A of the North
Carolina Administrative Code, Rule .0302 contains the classifications for waters located within the
Neuse River Basin (15A NCAC 02L .0312). Little Rock Creek, however, is not classified and
therefore follows Rule .0301 which simply states that it should carry the classification of the stream to
which it is a tributary (.
Assessment and Methodology The Rapid Stream Assessment Technique (RSAT) uses data measured
in the field to determine a stream s condition. These data fields include channel stability, channel
scouring or sediment deposition, physical instream habitat, water quality, riparian habitat conditions,
and biological indicators of macroinvertebrates. The RSAT ranking for each

The Israeli Palestinian Conflict Within The Context Of The...
In order to establish whether the Israeli Palestinian conflict within the context of the years
1881 to 1993 should be defined as right against right , it should be first considered the fact that two
entities have been juxtaposed to each other throughout the conflict making them more or less right.
Analysing the sources it appeared that the conflict has been characterized by many misunderstandings,
feelings of fear and attacks in order to protect their countries, however the most important thing that
influenced the conflict was the continuous misunderstandings of the two ethnicities, Palestine felt to

Furthermore, it could be argued that both sides were victims of the British, who were also responsible
for aggravating the conflict. The Israeli Palestinian conflict has its origins in the British imperial
politics. The Great Britain, in fact, in order to obtain the Arab support against Turkey during the First
World War, had proposed the birth of an independent Arab state in Palestine, at the time under the
Ottoman supremacy. Retaining that it was better not to antagonize the Jewish Western elite who
sympathized with the Zionist ideology and since 1882 have pushed a great number of Jews from
Eastern Europe to Palestine, British government kept a divided breeding ground in order to gain a
supremacy on that land: Palestine. This led on the 2nd of November 1917 to the Balfour Declaration,
which promised Jews an independent state, however with the contradictory promise not to damage the
already existing communities in Palestine. In addition, Britain must atone for its sins in Palestine
stated by Dr. Nabeel Shaatah, a member of the PLO, which seems to suggest that Britain had a prime
league position in this conflict, which could be a reason for the feeling of righteousness that the two
population had. In other words, giving the impression that Britain was promising both Palestine and

Deer Or Elk Carcass
In Nevada, a deer or elk carcass are disposed of in one of two ways: the head and spinal cord can be
buried, or disposed of at an approved landfill. There are no captive cervids in Nevada. Legislation

Budgeting Is The Cornerstone Of The Management Control...
The traditional budget is a rigid tool and therefore be discarded in practice . Should the traditional
budgetary model be abandoned as suggested above?
Introduction
Budgeting is the cornerstone of the management control process in nearly all organizations (Hansen et
al, 2003). The purpose of budgeting is to give targets and plans financial value, making the progress
easily measurable and to transform the strategic ideas into understandable operative action.
(Hanninen, 2013). Yet sometimes budgeting is not as ideal as it is thought. Specifically, traditional
budgeting method for the past couple of years arose a lot of discussions about its aptness today.
Traditional budgeting has been one of the first budgeting methods and is said to be a method of
managing cost and cash flows. Traditional budgeting ideally should set strategic goals and create
forecasts for costs, cash flows, incomes and other key financial factors. Normally, there are three steps
that are involved in this type of budgeting:
Prioritizing objectives that would be set out in the corporate financial planning process
Assessing and quantifying total available resources (both financial and non financial)
Identifying and quantifying the inputs and processes necessary to implement the goals and related
financial resource
Calculating the percentage of the total funds required for the acquisition/management of inputs and
realization of set goals

The Dark Age Of The Dark Ages
What is the first thing you think about when I say dark age? Is it chaos? Disease? Poverty? Death?
Well, you re on the right track. A dark age meant that there was very little culture, was repeatedly
invaded, had no government and a bad economy, and of course, a miserable place to live. It was
between 400 and 1400 AD in Europe, that was supposed to be called a dark age. While most of that
did happen in Europe, it s not entirely barbaric. In fact, around the end of that time period, many
things that were taken from Europe was restored. Art and education were restored around the 14th
century. Food and technology were improved around that time period as well. Even laws were restored
back in order so that society could be stable. So yes, I do believe that what you call a dark age, wasn t
really dark because food access and farmland was restored with the add on of having clever
contraptions to support the labor around the farm work, the government was strong enough to make
certain laws, and innovations were being advanced. One of the reasons why Europe in the 400 to 1400
wasn t a dark age is how there was access to enough food, tools, and farmland. One piece of evidence
that shows that farmland and food were available is in a textbook called, World History Before 1600:
The Development of Early Civilization. One excerpt states, From 1000 to 1300, the economy of
Europe developed and prospered. Available farmland tripled, and the food supply increased notably

b) How the Quantum Free Electron Theory predicts that the conductivity of metals decreases as the
temperature increases.
In the Quantum Free Electron Theory the electrons are considered as waves, so the electrons will have
much similar behaviour to waves. The temperature is related to the heat capacitance. So each element
will have different heat capacitance.
The Quantum Free Electron predicts that scattering causes electrons to drop back down in Energy.
Which means that as the temperature goes down the stability of the electrons will increase; also the
amount of electron which can jump into a higher level will decrease thus more stability in the atom.
This means better conductivity in lower temperatures. So when the temperature increases, it will cause
vibrations that change the lattice, and the lower level electron will get excited to move into a higher
level which causes instability in the element. Thus, the conductivity will decrease.
c) How the Band Theory predicts that the conductivity of silicon increases as the temperature

The band theory gives explanations of how Semiconductors differ from metals because as the

How Did Jack Sparrow Fight In The Caribbean
In the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Black Pearl there were four main characters involved in the
fight scene. Firstly there was Elizabeth Swann (Kiera Knightley), Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp),
Commodore James Norrington (Jack Davenport) and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom). The reason the
fight took place was as Jack Sparrow (Depp) came to the docks at Port Royal where they don t support
pirates. When he arrived he saved Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) after she fell off the cliff into the
water and he jumped in saving her, realising her corset. When they got out of the water the guards
came and threatened Jack Sparrow (Depp), but Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) defended him but this
backfired. He took her as a hostage and this is how the fight began. ... Show more content on

There were several reasons he chose this action, firstly as he grew up having a deep hatred towards
pirates, this is as he grew up with Elizabeth Swann s family and he was always told that pirates have
no integrity, values or morals that Will Turner (Bloom) possesses and believes it s his civic duty to
fight Jack Sparrow (Depp). A less obvious reason is the anger he has towards Jack Sparrow as he
threatened the girl he loves, Elizabeth Swann (Knightley), he chose to fight as he wanted to prove to
everyone, especially Elizabeth Swann (Knightley), that he deserves a high status which he would
receive if he fought Jack Sparrow (Depp) and won. Lastly, Will Turner (Bloom) fought Jack Sparrow

What Role Does Religion Play In Hamlet
As a shadow approached Marcellus, Barnardo, and Horatio, they questioned the state of their country
and the unfortunate circumstances regarding Hamlet. The ghost, originally a catholic idea, was
presented as an uncertain character is used to symbolize the development of the revenge plot, delay of
Hamlet s actions, and foreshadowing of death. The ghost did not simply introduce an idea of revenge,
it also represented the unpleasant idea which at the time was popular: revenge. When the ghost
approaches Hamlet, it lures him to create a private conversation between them. The ghost told Hamlet,
Revenge his foul and most unnatural murder, and led Hamlet in a direction that shifted his purpose in
life from mourning to objective revenge (Shakespeare, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing ghosts in any tradition is an omen of something negative. Marcellus directly said, Something is
rotten in the state of Denmark (Shakespeare, Act 1, Scene 4). As a tragedy, death is certainly one of
the many themes of Hamlet. The ghost, a dead person s soul, tells Hamlet that his father s death was
caused by his uncle. By suggesting revenge as a way to fix his father s sins, the ghost s dialogue
foreshadows the death of the Claudius. Given the circumstances of the public agreeing to usurp of the
throne, Hamlet s unusual behavior, and involvement of outside characters, Hamlet s journey to seek
vengeance will include the death of other characters. The ghost acted as the firebrand that initiated a
series of deaths by simply suggesting the death of one individual: Claudius. Without much effort,
Hamlet is persuaded to avenge his late father and unknowingly take his own life. Marcellus statement
ultimately became the truth after the death of both Claudius and Gertrude, Hamlet s mother, and some
other uninvolved characters like Ophelia and Polonius. The ghost did not only complicate the entire
story of Hamlet, it also developed the theme of revenge and Hamlet s delay of vengeance. However, it
can be inferred that if the character of the ghost was not included in the story, then the story of Hamlet
would not have happened. In the process

Colonists Reactions To The Stamp Act Of 1765
In 1765 the stamp act was passed by the british because they were in debt from the french and indian
war. The british made a tax on all paper products from england. There were many different reactions
towards the tax, there were violent acts and some less violent acts. Colonial families in 1765 had
multiple ways of reacting towards the stamp act such as violently trying to make the tax collectors
resign, boycotting british products, feeling like slaves towards england, and writing documents and
petitions to the king.
By having no say in the outcome of the tax the colonists in the english colonies were not as mad about
the price of the tax but more of being like a slave towards england. In england people with no land or
are slaves don t get a say in the outcome of the laws. All most all of the colonists were most likely

Self Help Group Of Rural Assam
SELF HELP GROUP OF RURAL ASSAM AND ITS ROLE IN WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Dr. Polee Saikia1
1 Associate Professor, Department of Education, Gauhati University, Assam, India.
ABSTRACT:
Women empowerment is a universal issue. Women empowerment refers to the creation of an
environment for women where they can make decisions of their own for their personal benefits as well
as for the society. It refers to increasing and improving the social, economic, political and legal
strength of the women, to ensure equal right to women and to make them confident enough to claim
their rights. The overall development of the nation remains as a paradox until and unless the women
got empowered. The under privileged rural women are still far from empowerment. Unemployment,
illiteracy and low social recognition made them so. Presently the self help groups that mushrooming in
different corners of rural Assam have been creating opportunities for women to be empowered. Here
in this study an attempt has been made to study whether the rural women got scope to get empowered
by getting engagement in self help groups. 40 women from 04 self help groups, 13 literate and 27
illiterate women were taken as sample for the study. To collect first hand data self structured
questionnaire and self structured interview schedule were prepared by the investigators. Percentage
was used to analyze data.

How Is Siddhartha Meaningless
Time is a free force and is said to be eternal. Time is a concept that is said to be perceived by the
individual. Time is what moves on, allowing one to grow and reach their peak and achieve happiness
in life. Experience and knowledge allow us to transcend ourselves in a different time. Different people
view time in different aspects, whether it truly exits, whether it is meaningless or whether it exits
beyond our lives. In the novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, time is conceptualized as meaningless,
while in Hemon s article If God Existed, He Would Be A Solid Midfielder , time is posited as a
snapshot that is meaningful and valuable. In the novel Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse, we read that

passing of time and the cycle of life, which ends up being his final teacher , leading him to nirvana.
The time in which he heard Om, awakened his soul as It was one word, one syllable (Hesse, 81). It
was within this moment his occurrence of rebirth was proposed. It was at this moment that he realized
time doesn t exist and The past now seemed to him to be covered with a veil, extremely remote, very
unimportant. At the moment of his return to consciousness his previous life seemed to him like a

beacons his newfound love of life and the end to his journey through experience as time brought him

The Threat Of Human Genetic Engineering
(Intro not done) Human Genetic Engineering is highly unsuccessful or sometimes not needed. People
pay thousands to eliminate traits from their offspring, however are they really getting their money s
worth if the gene is being avoided naturally. In the article The Threat Of Human Genetic Engineering
by David King, states that, The main advantage of HGE is said to be the elimination of disease genes
from a family. Yet in nearly all cases, existing technologies of prenatal and preimplantation genetic
testing of embryos allow the avoidance of actual disease. There are only a few very rare cases where
HGE is the only option. This illustrates how Human genetic engineering shows now benefits towards
medicine and health. Scientist propose that we alter our genetic code through genetic engineering. We
can remove genes we do not like and replace them with genes that carry our trait of choice. However
what they don t considered is what mutations can occur down the bloodline, David King state s, Most
scientists say that what is preventing them from embarking on HGE is the risk that the process will
itself generate new mutations, which will be passed onto future generations. This furthers the point
against human genetic engineering. With minimal research on the effects on genetic engineering there
must be extensive research prior to implementation of genetic engineering, even though it s been
around for some time with some restrictions. Of course this process of isn t

Native Son Adaptation
In Richard Wright s novel, Native Son, the overall issue was with the main character, Bigger Thomas,
being accused of raping Mary. The film tells the story of the main character Bigger Thomas, a 20 year
old African American man who is growing up in poverty on the Southside of Chicago. Native Son
displays a series of events and decisions made by Bigger that will alter his life. The purpose of this
essay to examine Richard Wright s film adaptation of Native Son, and to argue that Bigger Thomas
proves to be guilty of murder due to being present with the victim, him covering up the crime, and his
history of violence. Wright s 1940 novel, Native Son had stirred up real controversy by shocking the
sensibilities of both black and white America. Wright was inspired to make his readers feel the reality
of race relations and that is how Native Son came about. Wright used his observances throughout the
previous decade to sculpt the inherent challenges faced by the main character, Bigger Thomas, a 20
year old African American in the South side of Chicago. In a time, when the Great Depression was
impacting the economy, the Dust Bowl was crossing the country, and an anti lynching bill failed to
pass in Congress, the context of history became an important facet of Wright s creation of the film
adaptation. Firstly, Bigger Thomas proves to be guilty because he was with Mary on the day she was
last seen by anyone. Mary, Mr. Dalton s daughter, frightens and angers Bigger by ignoring the social

Theoretical Paradigms Of Structural Family Systems Theory
The major theoretical paradigm that informs structural family therapy is based on systems theory. The
word system is rooted in Latin and Greek words that mean to place together so a system can be
thought of as an entity made out of other entities that are placed together (Rosenblatt, 1994, pg. 49). In
systems theory there are many elements, assumptions, definitions to address the different dynamics
within a system. According to Rosenblatt (1994) systems theory provides insight into how systems
(families) are formed and highlights the patterns that surface within the system. Systems theory places
emphasis on the entire system (entire family), rather than focusing on the different parts (individuals)
of the system (Rosenblatt, 1994). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Vetere (2001) structure is defined by any given point in time where families organize
themselves based on overt/covert rules that impact the behaviors and choices of the family. Systems
theory discusses the different levels in a system and how one level influences another and so this same
assumptions can be observed in structural model (Rosenblatt, 1994). In structural model the family is
looked at as being embedded within wider social systems which serve as transactional patterns
(Navarre, 1998). Each family member can be characterized in more than one subsystem for a
permanent or short period of time. The roles of each member will be defined based on the subsystem
they are in. Family members are categorized by different subsystems, which can consist of parental,
couple, parent child, grandparent, male/female, power, hobby and interest (Minuchin, 1974). Hence,
based on the relationship of a subsystem families can form coalitions, enmeshment and
disengagement. According to Minuchin (1974) problems that children face are frequently due to the
boundaries between them and the parental

Common cause variation results from problems built into a system or process. This means the problem
will exist regardless of outside variables (i.e. workers, machinery, etc.) Special cause variation is the
result of a variable external to the system. These problems stem from a specific or unique condition
(i.e. workers, machinery, etc.). It is important to understand the difference between the two because
they require distinctly different methods of correction. Addressing the problem correctly can improve
quality and reliability of output. However, misinterpreting a common cause variation as a special
cause variation is a common and costly mistake. Managers begin to analyze and adjust the system
assuming that the variation stems from a condition unique to their project when in reality it is an
overarching organizational flaw. As a result, variation in quality and reliability may actual increase
when managers attempt to compensate for what they mistakenly believe to be special cause variation.

project teams add safety to duration estimates is to overestimate the time to complete individual

Matchlocks In Japan
Not long after, news about the weapon began to spread towards other parts of Japan. In 1545 the lord
of Bungo on Kyushu, called Otomo Yoshiaki heard about the weapon and requested a demonstrating
of the musket (Lidin 2002, 6). Otomo also became impressed by the power of the weapon and as a
result, muskets were included on its military arsenal. However, the gun was presented with some
technical problems, which was not reliable to be used in the wars. One of those problems was that it
could not perform properly in rain. But the Japanese generals soon were able to find a solution for it,
even before the Portuguese generals (Perrin 1979, 17). They created a sequential firing technique in

But it had also changed the ways wars were conducted, as with the advance and power of guns, old
styles of weapons were being slowly abandoned. In 1549 Oda Nobunaga, the military Lord, who with
the successor of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, was successfully able to unified Japan under one strong central
government (Brown 1948, 238). Requested an order of five hundred matchlocks to gunsmiths called
Kunitomo (Brown 1948, 238). In 1575, in the battle of Nagashino, Nobunaga had an army of
approximately 70,000 men, and 3,000 of them were equipped with matchlocks (Brown 1948, 238). Its
army was a combination of swords and guns, as at that time they could effectively build tactics using
both. Thus, the use of firearms was quickly spread. In 1582 by the time of Nobunaga death, possibly
one third of Japans soldiers, who were leaded by military barons, were equipped with firearms (Brown
1948, 238). Also, the victories earned at the begging of the Korean invasion, were largely due to the
fact that the Japanese army were equipped with muskets, while the Korean didn t acquire these types
of weapons (Brown 1948). The three unifier of Japan Nobunaga, Hideyoshi and Leyasu made an
extensive use of guns in their battles. Therefore, it can be said that guns played a key role in the
unification of Japan as well as in the 1592 1598 invasions of Koreans (Brown

Purpose: To inform audiences about the effect of music to the children with autism
Thesis: Music effect children with autism in a powerful significant way.
Introduction:
Do you know that 1 in every 68 children in the United States has an autism? (Miriam, 2014)
Boys are more likely to have autism than girl.
What is autism means to us? In 1943, according to Dr. Leo Kannar who was the first described autism
as a distinct condition that caused by mother (WebMD, 2014). Lately, autism defined as a disorder
present in childhood. Most of the time children will have different characterized by difficulty in social
skills, communication, lack of relationship with peers or friends and abstract concepts.
The causes for autism are unknown, but scientists agreement that autism is caused by abnormalities in
brain development, neurochemistry, and genetic factors.
There do have different kinds of treatment can effective in improving children with autism, such as
Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), Treatment and Education of Autistic Related Communication

Facilitating And Inhibiting Factors For Learning A Language
Facilitating and inhibiting factors in learning a language in second language contexts Despite a
marked difference in terms of their level of proficiency in English, Rodi and Liam managed to
develop the same level of proficiency (high level of proficiency) in using Indonesian language. From
their reports, summarised in Table 1 above, it is quite obvious to see that social contexts where the
language is learned constitutes a very important factor that helped both learners develop their
proficiency. That is to say, the abundance of input available in the social settings helped them
conceptualise the target language systems more easily and thus enable them to cope with producing
output more effectively thereafter. Of course, the abundance of input available in the social setting is
useless unless the learners make use of it, and such quality is what differentiates good from poor
language learners (Rubin, 1975). Being immersed in a speech community seems to also raise
motivation in learning the language of the community itself. Such motivation is primarily related to
survival. In other words, the two learners faced immediate needs where they had to be able to
communicate with the new community where they lived in so that they were able to maintain social
relationship with them and, more importantly, to fulfil their daily needs. As such, the learners
perceived that learning Indonesian was meaningful and compelling. Such perception therefore might

Comparision of Judaism and Zoroastrianism Essay
Comparision of Judaism and Zoroastrianism
Religion has been a major focal point in any society and in any culture. Starting from the first
civilizations in Sumer and Ur to the vast metropolitans of today like New York and London, religion
has been around and played a key part in lives of people. Possibly two of the oldest religions in the
world, Judaism and Zoroastrinism share distinct qualities that are still alive today. Both religions are

Women were treated unfair and were considered impure because they gave childbirth and went
through the menstruation cycle. The Jewish religion has many key components, which were derived
from other religions such as Zoroastrianism. The prophet Zoroaster founded Zoroastrianism in Persia.
The doctrines preached by Zoroaster are preserved in his metrical Gathas (psalms), which form part of
the sacred scripture known as the Avesta. Zoroastrianism is one of the first monotheistic beliefs in the
world. The beliefs are outlined in the Gathas. The basic tenets of the Gathas consist of a worship of
Ahura Mazda and an ethical dualism opposing Truth and Lie, which permeate the entire universe.
Upon death in Zoroastrianism a person s soul will be judged at the Bridge of Discrimination; the
follower of Truth will cross and be led into paradise, and the adherents of Lie will fall into hell.
Zoroastrianists believe that evil will be wiped off the face of the Earth and will be burnt. The Gathas
and the Seven Chapters form part of the larger work, the Yasna. In the Yasna there are hymns that
praise specific Gods, and the code of law that they are to follow. Both Judaism and Zoroastrinism
share many characteristics in common. The most obvious and probably one of the most important is
the fact that both religions are monotheistic. In ancient times many civilizations were polytheistic.
These two religions emerged as the first two monotheistic belief

How The Knutford Council Should Be Limited For Other Small...
In determining what response the Knutford Council should take in addressing the inappropriate usage
of electric hover boards on footpaths and in skate parks as well as the issue of hover board hacking
that permits hover boards to be used at higher speeds than intended by the manufacturer, the first step
is to determine the extent of the regulatory domain. Regulatory sphere or domain is the answer to the
question of who would be affected by the regulation of hover board usage in Knutford and who would
be administering the intended regulation. It also answers why and how we would be embarking on the
intended regulation and what said regulation would entail.
Though the Knutford council have identified hover boards as the most pertinent ... Show more content

In this regard a broader scope of regulation that encompasses the use of all small motorized
recreational vehicles on footpaths may be a more responsive form of regulation that would adapt to
the inevitable changes in technological trends. However, this expansion to cover all small motorized
vehicles may inadvertently affect the usage of other non recreational small motorized vehicles such as
electronic wheelchairs on footpaths. Other small electronically powered vehicles that are not intended
for recreational use do not present the same concerns identified by the Knutford Council as
problematic. Expanding the scope of regulation beyond Hoverboards thus presents the risk of
overregulation and risks affecting a population that was initially not targeted and reducing social
welfare overall.
In addition to the above there are further questions on the appropriate regulatory scope. Though the
regulatory issue at hand is currently presented as a local problem that affects the residents of Knutford
and its surrounding areas, Hoverboard technology is one that has been adopted at national and
international levels. The use of Hoverboards would therefore not be limited to only Knutford and the
concerns raised may apply across the board. It is therefore not inappropriate to consider that any
directive or regulation should have universal application across the nation. Again, though limiting the
issue to Knutford and its surrounding areas may present a regulatory

helpful to distress; however, it can also be useful as a profitable investment through the harvesting of
coral. In doing so, many gain the skill of patience.
There are many different varieties of coral, each varying in structure. There are Four classes of species
of coral, each has its own method of harvesting. One species of coral is LPS and SPS, which means
large polyp stoney and small polyp stoney. Aquarists write articles informing people about the
structure of frogspawn coral, they are LPS corals that develop multiple branching heads connected to
a single trunk like structure (Gosnell, 82). Frogspawn is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before harvesting, one must wear safety goggles and gloves, to protect on from the toxins shot from
the coral. If the toxin enters into an open orifice or cut, one must call medical personnel immediately.
To begin the procedure of harvesting, one will need bone cutters, frag plugs, super glue gel, pipet,
plastic container, and Coral R X. First, one must take a specimen of Frogspawn coral out of the water
of the tank. Second, one must take the bone cutters and cut an inch and a half to two inches from the
poly to the trunk like structure of the frogspawn coral. He or she must make sure it is a clean cut. If it
is not a clean cut the individual can trim the base with the bone cutters. Third, one must take the frag
plug, super glue gel, pipet and the harvested coral fragment. One must take the super glue gel and add
a dollop of it to the center of the frag plug. Next, One must take the frag plug and place the dollop of
super glue to the trunk like structure of the frogspawn coral. He or she must hold pressure, while using
the pipet to shoot saltwater onto the drying super glue gel. This hardens the hold. Now

CanT Afford A Vacation
Can t Afford a Vacation; The Best Things About Countries Around The World After having a long life
of hard work and making money you might think of a vacation and trying to taste different foods in
the culture and see some amazing things. Spain, Turkey, Italy, Greece, United Arab Emirates, Saudi
Arabia, Iceland, Bahamas, and Lebanon might have what you re looking for. You might be scared to
ride a plane for the first time but for me the first time I ve ever been on a plane was when I was around
seven years old and it was a breeze. It was to go to America for vacation. When I got to America and
stayed for a couple of weeks I did not understand what was going on. I didn t know why my parents

Although they love to make jokes with you Turkish people are very nice and respectful. The
Azerbaijani pretends to give you your dondurma but then snatches it from you with his big spoon and
puts a little on your nose and screw with you. You get frustrated when he doesn t give it to you, but
after it s just a really big joke. Now Turkey isn t just about dessert, although they have amazing
immemorial Turkish desserts. Let s talk some meaty foods in Turkey. There s entrees with meat all
over the world, but not like Turkey. They have lambs which are good, but even better is the Turkish
kabobs you ll find them anywhere. The Dolma is the best meat entree i ve ever had anywhere,
honestly, it s a bit spicy, but not too spicy but just right to give it a little kick. Another amazing meal is
the KoFte, its lamb that comes with their Turkish sauce it comes in a very hot plate with a lot of steam
coming out of it on top is very cold yogurt with some water added to it to liquefy it more. This idea is
brilliant because when you re eating a very hot thing with something right after it smooth and cold it s
fascinating. There is nothing that I myself can compare to the Dolma, it is a very unique dish in
Turkey. Whilst this is true, many people say, Yo dude, New York pizza is so rad dude, its the best in
the world! There is an inquiry, did they ever have pizza where pizza

Pure Evil In A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
The human behavior is one that will haunt humanity forever. A Long Way Gone, written by Ishmael
Beah, is an original non fiction story based on Ishmael s personal experiences in warfare. But,
shockingly, he witnessed warfare from the small eyes of his teenage years. Having to experience one
of the worst things in history, at such a young age, is terrible. War, in this case or in any case, relates to
both human condition and human nature. Human conditions, in short, are things that that defines the
human existence (birth, death, etc.) Human nature, close to human conditions, are how humans act
naturally to their environment and others. The theme of A Long Way Gone ties strongly with both of
these with a passion. It describes war as an art, with human condition as a canvas and human nature to
paint in the fine details. The question asked is what Ishmael Beah s experience tells us about the
meaning of the human being, and to answer we have to poke at some topics that we ve covered. The
answers to the sole question include the hypothetical existence of pure evil, the important keys of
human social life, and how war affects one s own mind.
In the attempt to comprehend the meaning of being human, it s important to first understand what it
must mean to be pure evil. If we can know what pure evil is, we can understand the conditions that
brought Ishmael to do such horrid things himself. In several chapters of the book, Ishmael goes
through the torture of the militia known as the

Anna Garcia Case Study
Introduction: One summer morning, a 38 year old woman named Anna Garcia was found dead. Anna
was found lying facedown in the entry hallway of her home in a pool of blood. Many different pieces
of evidence found at the crime scene have been analyzed to determine the manner of Anna s death:
natural, accident, or homicide. The analyzed evidence found at the crime scene includes fingerprints,
blood type, shoeprint, hair, unknown substances, blood spatters, and DNA. Anna Garcia s autopsy
report currently contains information on Anna s toxicology results, external examination results, and
physical examination results. The evidence that has been analyzed mainly focuses on the persons of
interest: Alex Garcia, Doug Greene, Erica Piedmont, and Lucy ... Show more content on

When evidence was analyzed to see if it belonged to any of the persons of interest, most of the
evidence belonged to Anna Garcia, excluding the fingerprints found which belonged to Alex Garcia.
When examined, Anna s body showed evidence of oxygen deprivation, as well as elements of
discomfort such as vomit, edema of ankles, inflamed and red injection sites on her left thigh, a head
wound from falling against a solid object, a right elbow bruise, and blue and gray nails. Even though
Anna hit her head, it was obviously not the sole reason of her death. She was experiencing symptoms
that were not tied to head trauma, which makes the idea of her dying of a natural death unlikely. When
evidence was analyzed to see if it belonged to any of the persons of interest, most of the evidence
belonged to Anna Garcia, excluding the fingerprints found which belonged to Alex Garcia. There was
not enough evidence found at the crime scene to tie Alex Garcia to the death, and Anna s symptoms
and injuries do not add up in terms of the idea of her death being a homicide. Anna s signs of sickness
and oxygen deprivation point to a natural death. Lucy Leffingwell, Anna s best friend, mentioned that
Anna had recently been in the hospital. A relapse is definitely not out of question. Until Anna s
autopsy report with the results of her internal examination and Anna s medical history records are
shown, her manner of death cannot be definitively determined. However, Anna Garcia s manner of
death being natural makes the most sense based on the information currently

The Trouble with Violence in Northern Ireland Essay
In the past century we have experienced a vast majority of violent acts towards minority groups such
as blacks, Jews, homosexuals and others. According to BBC the Troubles of Northern Ireland
represent one of the latest examples of religious, ethnic, geographic and political conflict. The
Troubles started in the late 1960s and it is considered by many to have ended with the Belfast Good
Friday Agreement of 1998. After more than 30 years of civil conflict, peace had finally been achieved.
However, random violence acts have continued since then. How did the Belfast Good Friday
Agreement end the Troubles in Northern Ireland and how is the country today? The island was divided
into Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland in the 1920s. ... Show more content on

The IRA targeted soldiers and policemen, but while doing so they killed civilians. To keep them apart,
the capital, Belfast transformed into a war zone, and walls were built to prevent the groups from
attacking each other. For many years Belfast was known as the Barricaded city . Protestants also
formed groups, which carried out attacks against Catholics. In the 1970s and 1980s, approximately
3,000 people were killed, with many more injured. Despite the Protestants majority, the creation of
Northern Ireland did not bring security to them because it was clear that London was never as
committed to the Union as the Protestants were. The Protestant leaders assumed that the new state
could only exist if they had the power therefore they made sure that their power should be both strong
and permanent. As result they changed the voting system and the electoral boundaries
(gerrymandering). Nationalists and Catholics were considered as second class citizens, and dangerous
to the state. They were seen with being less deserving of jobs and houses than their Protestant
neighbors, they were discriminated in the public service, in education as well. The representatives of
Nationalists and Catholics were also banned from political power and influence. In addition to being
discriminated they were also complaining to the government because of the use of special powers
against republicans.

Analyzing The Movie Men In Black
1)Men In Black Men In Black is on my list of movies to see before you die because of its characters.
Primarily the character Agent J, and the wit and comic relief that he provides. The movie shows that
even if a character is used mostly for comedic value, they can still have complex views on how things
are. This is shown in the iconic Little Tiffany training scene in which J is presented with a simulation
where an alleyway is flooded with aliens, and instead of shooting them,he chooses to shoot the cut out
of the small girl instead. Then I saw little Tiffany. I m thinking, you know, eight year old white girl,
middle of the ghetto, bunch of monsters, this time of night with quantum physics books? She s about
to start some shit Zed. She s about eight years old, those books are way too advanced for her. If you
ask me, I d say she s up to something. 2)Doctor Horrible s Sing Along Blog ... Show more content on

The movie is shown from the villain s point of view, with the stereotypical Hero placed in the
antagonist role. Doctor Horrible (played by Neil Patrick Harris) is shown as a kind of awkward just
trying to get by villain, whereas the hero, Captain Hammer is shown as the cocky overly assured hero,
whose main goal is to take or ruin what makes Horrible happy. ( I m a hero. But if you have eyeballs
you already know that. ) The movie has a feel good quality to it, and is really well made, considering
that it was funded completely by Joss Whedon with a budget of only

  • 2. The Use of Satire in Voltaire’s Candide by Gottfried... The Use of Satire in Voltaire s Candide Satire. According to dictionary.com it is the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues . During a time when going against the common mindset, which at the time was philosophical optimism, was rare and often looked down upon, using satire in order to not only communicate one s beliefs but also mock those who shared the mainstream train of thought was key. The use of satire in Voltaire s Candide aids in the exhibition of his pessimistic mindset towards the social, religious, philosophical, political, and scientific beliefs that were favored during the Age of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite not believing that God created the best possible world to live in, Voltaire did believe in God. The European Graduate School published a biography of Voltaire which remarked Voltaire was also a fierce critique of religious traditions but that is not to say that he was averse to the idea of a supreme being. His understanding of God was deist, he reasoned that the existence of God was a question of reason and observation rather than of faith . This demonstrates that he did believe in and accept God, though in an unorthodoxed way, relying wholly on his reason and observations. Not only did these unique beliefs and idea spark some harsh feelings towards Leibniz, but they also forced Voltaire to better mask his criticism. Thus, the employment of satire in his novels, specifically Candide. Throughout Candide Voltaire mercilessly satirizes and mocks many aspects of philosophical optimism. One of the most prevalent examples of this is displayed through Candide s teacher, Pangloss. Acting as a stand in for Leibniz in the novel, Voltaire portrays him as both ignorant and arrogant, initially introducing him as Candide s metaphysico theologo cosmoniogoly (Voltaire 15) teacher. Pangloss s egocentric personality comes through when James the Anabaptist fell overboard on their way to Lisbon. About to jump in after him, Candide is stopped by his wise teacher who proclaims the Lisbon harbor was formed expressly for the Anabaptist to drown in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These two characters were quite hard to find something in common, due to the different time periods, and how Lil is not the main character in her story. Each infant develops at approximately the same, quick pace, but each small life in the grand scheme of infant development could vary greatly (Santrock, 2016). There are many different factors that must be considered in the first years of life that are extremely crucial for development and change. In order to better understand infant development, it is important to consider how each of these factors will affect the baby; three examples of these factors are sleep patterns, eating habits, and motor development, all which impact the general health of the infant overall. It is relatively general knowledge that infants tend to sleep much more than the average child, adult, or adolescent. My virtual child, Margo, in between three and eight months, was sleeping six hours out of the night, and taking a few two hour naps during the day, consistently sleeping about 12 hours per day (My Virtual Child, 2014). The average amount of sleep that an infant will get on any given night is anywhere in between ten to twenty one hours per day (Santrock, 2016). Based on this knowledge, it can be concluded that Margo s sleeping habits are not necessarily abnormal for her age. Margo was also strictly breastfed. Benevolent Sexism Essay Benevolent sexism is a courteous attitude toward women (which feels favorable) but in actuality is sexist because the motivation behind it casts women as weak individuals in need of men s assistance. Introduction During this semester I traveled with the North Carolina State University s Environmental Technology and Management program ET 201 class, under the direction of Dr. Teresa Litzenberger, to Little Rock Creek in Raleigh North Carolina. Little Rock Creek is a small stream located in southeast raleigh near the Walnut Creek Wetland Center. Located in a watershed of approximately 705.879 acres, the creek looks like an upside down uppercase L from a map perspective. The creek floor is sandy with a few small rocks (cobblestone) in areas. The stream has plenty of tree cover to provide shade. However, the lack of large trees encourages the curves in the creek to widen which allows the water to slow down and create pools throughout the creek. According to Title 15A of the North Carolina Administrative Code, Rule .0302 contains the classifications for waters located within the Neuse River Basin (15A NCAC 02L .0312). Furthermore, it could be argued that both sides were victims of the British, who were also responsible for aggravating the conflict. The Israeli Palestinian conflict has its origins in the British imperial politics. The Great Britain, in fact, in order to obtain the Arab support against Turkey during the First World War, had proposed the birth of an independent Arab state in Palestine, at the time under the Ottoman supremacy. Retaining that it was better not to antagonize the Jewish Western elite who sympathized with the Zionist ideology and since 1882 have pushed a great number of Jews from Eastern Europe to Palestine, British government kept a divided breeding ground in order to gain a supremacy on that land: Palestine. Should the traditional budgetary model be abandoned as suggested above? Introduction Budgeting is the cornerstone of the management control process in nearly all organizations (Hansen et al, 2003). The purpose of budgeting is to give targets and plans financial value, making the progress easily measurable and to transform the strategic ideas into understandable operative action. (Hanninen, 2013). Yet sometimes budgeting is not as ideal as it is thought. Specifically, traditional budgeting method for the past couple of years arose a lot of discussions about its aptness today. Traditional budgeting has been one of the first budgeting methods and is said to be a method of managing cost and cash flows. Traditional budgeting ideally should set strategic goals and create forecasts for costs, cash flows, incomes and other key financial factors. Normally, there are three steps that are involved in this type of budgeting: Prioritizing objectives that would be set out in the corporate financial planning process Assessing and quantifying total available resources (both financial and non financial) Identifying and quantifying the inputs and processes necessary to implement the goals and related financial resource Calculating the percentage of the total funds required for the acquisition/management of inputs and realization of set goals (Source: CIMA) Advantages Framework Primarily, role of ... • 21. The Dark Age Of The Dark Ages What is the first thing you think about when I say dark age? Is it chaos? Disease? Poverty? Death? Well, you re on the right track. A dark age meant that there was very little culture, was repeatedly invaded, had no government and a bad economy, and of course, a miserable place to live. It was between 400 and 1400 AD in Europe, that was supposed to be called a dark age. While most of that did happen in Europe, it s not entirely barbaric. In fact, around the end of that time period, many things that were taken from Europe was restored. Art and education were restored around the 14th century. Food and technology were improved around that time period as well. Even laws were restored back in order so that society could be stable. So yes, I do believe that what you call a dark age, wasn t really dark because food access and farmland was restored with the add on of having clever contraptions to support the labor around the farm work, the government was strong enough to make certain laws, and innovations were being advanced. One of the reasons why Europe in the 400 to 1400 wasn t a dark age is how there was access to enough food, tools, and farmland. One piece of evidence that shows that farmland and food were available is in a textbook called, World History Before 1600: The Development of Early Civilization. One excerpt states, From 1000 to 1300, the economy of Europe developed and prospered. Available farmland tripled, and the food supply increased notably (Doc B). Also, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... b) How the Quantum Free Electron Theory predicts that the conductivity of metals decreases as the temperature increases. In the Quantum Free Electron Theory the electrons are considered as waves, so the electrons will have much similar behaviour to waves. The temperature is related to the heat capacitance. So each element will have different heat capacitance. The Quantum Free Electron predicts that scattering causes electrons to drop back down in Energy. Which means that as the temperature goes down the stability of the electrons will increase; also the amount of electron which can jump into a higher level will decrease thus more stability in the atom. This means better conductivity in lower temperatures. So when the temperature increases, it will cause vibrations that change the lattice, and the lower level electron will get excited to move into a higher level which causes instability in the element. Thus, the conductivity will decrease. c) How the Band Theory predicts that the conductivity of silicon increases as the temperature increases. Marcellus directly said, Something is rotten in the state of Denmark (Shakespeare, Act 1, Scene 4). As a tragedy, death is certainly one of the many themes of Hamlet. The ghost, a dead person s soul, tells Hamlet that his father s death was caused by his uncle. By suggesting revenge as a way to fix his father s sins, the ghost s dialogue foreshadows the death of the Claudius. Given the circumstances of the public agreeing to usurp of the throne, Hamlet s unusual behavior, and involvement of outside characters, Hamlet s journey to seek vengeance will include the death of other characters. The ghost acted as the firebrand that initiated a series of deaths by simply suggesting the death of one individual: Claudius. Without much effort, Hamlet is persuaded to avenge his late father and unknowingly take his own life. Marcellus statement ultimately became the truth after the death of both Claudius and Gertrude, Hamlet s mother, and some other uninvolved characters like Ophelia and Polonius. The ghost did not only complicate the entire story of Hamlet, it also developed the theme of revenge and Hamlet s delay of vengeance. People pay thousands to eliminate traits from their offspring, however are they really getting their money s worth if the gene is being avoided naturally. In the article The Threat Of Human Genetic Engineering by David King, states that, The main advantage of HGE is said to be the elimination of disease genes from a family. Yet in nearly all cases, existing technologies of prenatal and preimplantation genetic testing of embryos allow the avoidance of actual disease. There are only a few very rare cases where HGE is the only option. This illustrates how Human genetic engineering shows now benefits towards medicine and health. Scientist propose that we alter our genetic code through genetic engineering. We can remove genes we do not like and replace them with genes that carry our trait of choice. However what they don t considered is what mutations can occur down the bloodline, David King state s, Most scientists say that what is preventing them from embarking on HGE is the risk that the process will itself generate new mutations, which will be passed onto future generations. This furthers the point against human genetic engineering. The film tells the story of the main character Bigger Thomas, a 20 year old African American man who is growing up in poverty on the Southside of Chicago. Native Son displays a series of events and decisions made by Bigger that will alter his life. The purpose of this essay to examine Richard Wright s film adaptation of Native Son, and to argue that Bigger Thomas proves to be guilty of murder due to being present with the victim, him covering up the crime, and his history of violence. The word system is rooted in Latin and Greek words that mean to place together so a system can be thought of as an entity made out of other entities that are placed together (Rosenblatt, 1994, pg. 49). In systems theory there are many elements, assumptions, definitions to address the different dynamics within a system. According to Rosenblatt (1994) systems theory provides insight into how systems (families) are formed and highlights the patterns that surface within the system. Systems theory places emphasis on the entire system (entire family), rather than focusing on the different parts (individuals) of the system (Rosenblatt, 1994). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Vetere (2001) structure is defined by any given point in time where families organize themselves based on overt/covert rules that impact the behaviors and choices of the family. Systems theory discusses the different levels in a system and how one level influences another and so this same assumptions can be observed in structural model (Rosenblatt, 1994). In structural model the family is looked at as being embedded within wider social systems which serve as transactional patterns (Navarre, 1998). Each family member can be characterized in more than one subsystem for a permanent or short period of time. The roles of each member will be defined based on the subsystem they are in. Family members are categorized by different subsystems, which can consist of parental, couple, parent child, grandparent, male/female, power, hobby and interest (Minuchin, 1974). This means the problem will exist regardless of outside variables (i.e. workers, machinery, etc.) Special cause variation is the result of a variable external to the system. These problems stem from a specific or unique condition (i.e. workers, machinery, etc.). It is important to understand the difference between the two because they require distinctly different methods of correction. Addressing the problem correctly can improve quality and reliability of output. However, misinterpreting a common cause variation as a special cause variation is a common and costly mistake. Managers begin to analyze and adjust the system assuming that the variation stems from a condition unique to their project when in reality it is an overarching organizational flaw. As a result, variation in quality and reliability may actual increase when managers attempt to compensate for what they mistakenly believe to be special cause variation. 4. In 1575, in the battle of Nagashino, Nobunaga had an army of approximately 70,000 men, and 3,000 of them were equipped with matchlocks (Brown 1948, 238). Its army was a combination of swords and guns, as at that time they could effectively build tactics using both. Thus, the use of firearms was quickly spread. That is to say, the abundance of input available in the social settings helped them conceptualise the target language systems more easily and thus enable them to cope with producing output more effectively thereafter. Of course, the abundance of input available in the social setting is useless unless the learners make use of it, and such quality is what differentiates good from poor language learners (Rubin, 1975). Being immersed in a speech community seems to also raise motivation in learning the language of the community itself. Such motivation is primarily related to survival. In other words, the two learners faced immediate needs where they had to be able to communicate with the new community where they lived in so that they were able to maintain social relationship with them and, more importantly, to fulfil their daily needs. Other small electronically powered vehicles that are not intended for recreational use do not present the same concerns identified by the Knutford Council as problematic. The use of Hoverboards would therefore not be limited to only Knutford and the concerns raised may apply across the board. It is therefore not inappropriate to consider that any directive or regulation should have universal application across the nation. Again, though limiting the issue to Knutford and its surrounding areas may present a regulatory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Pure Evil In A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah The human behavior is one that will haunt humanity forever. A Long Way Gone, written by Ishmael Beah, is an original non fiction story based on Ishmael s personal experiences in warfare. But, shockingly, he witnessed warfare from the small eyes of his teenage years. Having to experience one of the worst things in history, at such a young age, is terrible. War, in this case or in any case, relates to both human condition and human nature. Human conditions, in short, are things that that defines the human existence (birth, death, etc.) Human nature, close to human conditions, are how humans act naturally to their environment and others. The theme of A Long Way Gone ties strongly with both of these with a passion. It describes war as an art, with human condition as a canvas and human nature to paint in the fine details. The question asked is what Ishmael Beah s experience tells us about the meaning of the human being, and to answer we have to poke at some topics that we ve covered. The answers to the sole question include the hypothetical existence of pure evil, the important keys of human social life, and how war affects one s own mind. In the attempt to comprehend the meaning of being human, it s important to first understand what it must mean to be pure evil. If we can know what pure evil is, we can understand the conditions that brought Ishmael to do such horrid things himself. In several chapters of the book, Ishmael goes through the torture of the militia known as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Anna Garcia Case Study Introduction: One summer morning, a 38 year old woman named Anna Garcia was found dead. Anna was found lying facedown in the entry hallway of her home in a pool of blood. Many different pieces of evidence found at the crime scene have been analyzed to determine the manner of Anna s death: natural, accident, or homicide. The analyzed evidence found at the crime scene includes fingerprints, blood type, shoeprint, hair, unknown substances, blood spatters, and DNA. Anna Garcia s autopsy report currently contains information on Anna s toxicology results, external examination results, and physical examination results. The evidence that has been analyzed mainly focuses on the persons of interest: Alex Garcia, Doug Greene, Erica Piedmont, and Lucy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When evidence was analyzed to see if it belonged to any of the persons of interest, most of the evidence belonged to Anna Garcia, excluding the fingerprints found which belonged to Alex Garcia. When examined, Anna s body showed evidence of oxygen deprivation, as well as elements of discomfort such as vomit, edema of ankles, inflamed and red injection sites on her left thigh, a head wound from falling against a solid object, a right elbow bruise, and blue and gray nails. Even though Anna hit her head, it was obviously not the sole reason of her death. She was experiencing symptoms that were not tied to head trauma, which makes the idea of her dying of a natural death unlikely. When evidence was analyzed to see if it belonged to any of the persons of interest, most of the evidence belonged to Anna Garcia, excluding the fingerprints found which belonged to Alex Garcia. There was not enough evidence found at the crime scene to tie Alex Garcia to the death, and Anna s symptoms and injuries do not add up in terms of the idea of her death being a homicide. Anna s signs of sickness and oxygen deprivation point to a natural death. Lucy Leffingwell, Anna s best friend, mentioned that Anna had recently been in the hospital. A relapse is definitely not out of question. Until Anna s autopsy report with the results of her internal examination and Anna s medical history records are shown, her manner of death cannot be definitively determined. However, Anna Garcia s manner of death being natural makes the most sense based on the information currently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Trouble with Violence in Northern Ireland Essay In the past century we have experienced a vast majority of violent acts towards minority groups such as blacks, Jews, homosexuals and others. According to BBC the Troubles of Northern Ireland represent one of the latest examples of religious, ethnic, geographic and political conflict. The Troubles started in the late 1960s and it is considered by many to have ended with the Belfast Good Friday Agreement of 1998. After more than 30 years of civil conflict, peace had finally been achieved. However, random violence acts have continued since then. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The IRA targeted soldiers and policemen, but while doing so they killed civilians. To keep them apart, the capital, Belfast transformed into a war zone, and walls were built to prevent the groups from attacking each other. For many years Belfast was known as the Barricaded city . Protestants also formed groups, which carried out attacks against Catholics. In the 1970s and 1980s, approximately 3,000 people were killed, with many more injured. Despite the Protestants majority, the creation of Northern Ireland did not bring security to them because it was clear that London was never as committed to the Union as the Protestants were. The Protestant leaders assumed that the new state could only exist if they had the power therefore they made sure that their power should be both strong and permanent. As result they changed the voting system and the electoral boundaries (gerrymandering). Nationalists and Catholics were considered as second class citizens, and dangerous to the state. They were seen with being less deserving of jobs and houses than their Protestant neighbors, they were discriminated in the public service, in education as well. The representatives of Nationalists and Catholics were also banned from political power and influence. In addition to being discriminated they were also complaining to the government because of the use of special powers against republicans. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Analyzing The Movie Men In Black 1)Men In Black Men In Black is on my list of movies to see before you die because of its characters. Primarily the character Agent J, and the wit and comic relief that he provides. The movie shows that even if a character is used mostly for comedic value, they can still have complex views on how things are. This is shown in the iconic Little Tiffany training scene in which J is presented with a simulation where an alleyway is flooded with aliens, and instead of shooting them,he chooses to shoot the cut out of the small girl instead. Then I saw little Tiffany. I m thinking, you know, eight year old white girl, middle of the ghetto, bunch of monsters, this time of night with quantum physics books? She s about to start some shit Zed. She s about eight years old, those books are way too advanced for her. If you ask me, I d say she s up to something. 2)Doctor Horrible s Sing Along Blog ...
