AS Media Studies Evaluation

• In my media product, the sequences are similar to the
teenage film Spider man because it is set with normal
looking teenagers at school and waking up in there
house, also in my sequences, Binary opposition is
shown between a girl and a boy, which is also shown in
the featured film Spider man. The difference within my
product and other featured superhero film is that, The
Girl is the superhero, because normally the boy is the
stereotypical superhero in a superhero film.
• We have kept the conventions of the form
within the film because we have wanted to
keep the excitement and action with a
superhero film but also not give too much
away in our first few sequences. We used
modern and thrilling music to keep the mood
of the film and to make it look professional we
also made sure we used a variety of angles
and camera movements to keep our audience
alert and interested in our product.
• The two social groups within the teenage age that
we have used in our product is a stereotypical
chavy girl and a hard working nerd boy, this was
included in out attempt to show binary
opposition. We showed the differences in the
sequences by showing the different behaviours of
the brother and sister, by making the Chav wake
up later and seem the lazy and attitude one.
Whilst the nerdy brother is the opposite, up and
  awake with a positive attitude
• The type of media institution that might
distribute my media product would be
Working Title. I would choose this one
because it is a British institution and because
there’s nothing that an American institution
would want or be interested in
• The audience for my media product would be
Teenagers both sexes, the demographic groups that are
seeking. The best distributing for our product would be
internet because it is a short opening to a film I would
choose internet also because for unknown actors used
and short viewing time it would be open to a lot of
people to watch and let them know about our product.
This would also be a good tool to use for advertising
our product because it will enable other people the
same age to watch and see our product, which will lead
to word of mouth and advertisement on the internet
e.g YouTube, or Facebook a popular place for a range of
  people to view.
• The Demographic groups you are seeking to
target as your primary audience is teenagers,
it could be targeted at both sexes mainly
female, due to the story line of a girl
superhero. I think out product would be
suitable for all types of teenagers who enjoy
  fun, exciting films.
• The psychographics factors of our product would
be a fun filled light hearted film packed with
various things teenagers could enjoy. Teenagers
could relate to our film, because of daily school
life and change it into fantasy. Our two
characters, the chav and nerd would also be
enjoyable to watch for the set teenage culture.
Our audience feedback does suggest we have
produced something that would attract this
target audience by feedback such as “We enjoyed
  the characters”.
• The Mise-en-scene was made appealing for our target audience
because it was set in a normal house therefore certain teenagers
could relate to it and the costumes were also represented towards
some stereotyped teenagers would make it funny and interesting to
watch. The props used were also made to suit each of our
characters representations. Also we involved modern day music
  into our
• sequences so that it would appeal to teenagers. Our audience
feedback reveals that our product represented good modern day
characters out there and was enjoyable to see the differences
between two people. It was also an extra hit with the female
audiences because the normal superhero film was switched to a
  female role as your superhero.
• What I have learnt about how to use the
camera would be, the amount of different
shots and Varity of angles used to create a
sequence which makes a lot of difference in
how the story is told and how each character
is represented. Just by giving a certain amount
of time on screen can depend on how
important they are for your film. Also by
ordering the shots in the sequence can also
show the representation of your character.
• My skills in production work has developed a lot by helping
edit our product I have learnt how to order and time out
the music edited in on the mac. Also how different camera
shots ordered, can affect our story line. I have also
developed how to manage the amount of footage and
shots we have, what we need and what we don’t. I have
learnt how to create a scene and act within the area of the
camera positions. These skills in production have developed
loads since the start of the course and how to organise a
Varity of useful and not useful shots and helped me
understand the sound/audio side to editing. To improve any
uses of technology in production work would be more
variety and skill on effects for our sequences and various
  shots.
• How I have done planning and preparation for shooting
more effective then was the case with the prelim task
would be organising a Varity of shots and angles to
make the story interesting. Also helped organised the
locations of the place we filmed at. I was preparing a
range of props to make our product more effective. I
have improved the quality of the footage by using my
own camera with good quality to make our product
look professional as it can and stand out. I also had my
own tripod which enabled us to create good angles we
wanted and make the shots look effective.
