Sony and Nintendo originally partnered to develop a CD-ROM attachment for the Super Nintendo, but later parted ways. 3. ABOUT THE PRODUCT
 In 1988, Sony and Nintendo were working together to develop the Super
Disc, which was going to be a CD-ROM attachment intended as part of
Nintendo's soon to be released Super Nintendo game.
 However, Sony and Nintendo parted ways business-wise as Nintendo
decided to use Philips as a partner instead.
 In 1991, Sony introduced a modified version of the Super Disk as part of
their new game console: the Sony PlayStation.
 Only 200 models of the first PlayStation (that could play Super Nintendo
game cartridges) were ever manufactured by Sony.
 In 1994, the new PlayStation X (PSX) was released and was no longer
compatible with Nintendo game cartridges and only played CD-ROM
based games.

 PlayStation sold more than 300,000 units in the first month of sales in
Japan.
 They pre-sold 100,000 units before September 1995’s US launch.
 By the time PlayStation 2 released in 2003, the PlayStation had sold 70
million units worldwide.
 They reached the milestone of 100 million units by 2003.
 All versions of the PlayStation, from the original PlayStation to the
PlayStation 4 launched in 2014, have sold over 400 million units worldwide.
