Alcohol and Spiritual Deadlock In his introduction to John Berryman s unfinished work Recovery,
about his efforts to recover from alcoholism, Saul Bellows asserts that the act of writing poetry
killed Berryman, and alcohol helped fuel the writing process: Inspiration contained a death threat.
He would, as he wrote the things he waited and prayed for, fall apart, (Recovery xii). During his
career as a poet, he was diseased with alcoholism and suffered from extreme lapses of anxiety.

Williamson Tobacco Corporation. The movie was made to show his struggle with how hard it
was for Wigand to make this decision. He could not keep this kind of information from the
public, especially after working with healthcare companies before being employed by Brown and
Williamson. He felt personally obliged to tell this story because it could potentially save the lives

I thought it would be fun to fling things like raw eggs and rocks with a catapult. Guess
what, it was! By flinging these items I tried to find out if heavier things would travel farther than
lighter ones. Basically how force effects motion.
With the catapult as the force, I sent items soaring, after weighing them, and then
recorded how far the items travelled. This showed me how Newtons Three Laws of Motion

about the farm at which I reside. I agree in that PolyFace Farm has the ability to change the way
that many people see farming today. However, I noticed that you claimed that we, the pigs, are

In the short story, A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury a man by the name of Mr. Eckels goes
on a safari expedition hosted by a company named Time Safari Inc., sixty five million years back
in time. During this jaunt to the Mesozoic era they find a Tyrannosaurus Rex and Eckels becomes
nervous and freaks out, after witnessing the gargantuan reptile he is aghast and steps off a path.
Wandering off the path is strictly forbidden as it can alter the timeline, in doing so he crushes a
butterfly and changes what will become the present. Through this story, Ray Bradburyis trying to
convey the theme that all of your actions, even small ones, can grow and form into much greater

Movies Being A Dream In Richard Linklater s The Waking Life
The idea of movies or parts of movies being a dream is not new. A lot of the time, directors and
writers use this in order to explain surreal fantasies or irrational ideas and thoughts. Hence,
audiences have asserted this as taboo; a cop out to make excitement or abstract within a film that
is less so. The eye roll and shake of the head of the audience as a character waking up to the
realization of hypnogogic events is all too familiar. Using it as a resolution is even worse as the
audience is invested in the storyline, only to find out it was all a sham from the start and none of it
was actual reality.
Richard Linklater s, The Waking Life takes a different route, however. The audience throughout the
film spends time questioning whether the protagonist, who is not named, is dreaming. Our hero
spends a large amount of the movie continually waking from these dreams. It can be argued the
whole movie is a dream. Honestly, that s the hope, because it s actually more fitting that way.
Waking life is appears that way too; a dream sequence. The fragmented structure of Linklater s
movie is a novel take on animation it appears tempermental and almost wavy as objects appear to
float without a sense of gravitational restraint. This embedds further the idea of a dream to the
audience. Art director Sabiston and Linklater film live action sequences with real, living actors.
