Behind the Curtain: Exposing Advanced ThreatsCisco Canada
Today's advanced threats hide in plain sight, patiently waiting to strike, challenging security teams to track their progress across their network and endpoints. Meanwhile, executive and board-level reporting requirements are increasing as leadership demands in-depth answers that are unavailable from today’s block/allow security tools. With 55% of organizations unable to identify the origin of their last security breach, it’s time to stop relying on tools that define security based on what they see ‘out there’ and instead hunt for threats by tracking files, file relationships, and both endpoint and network behavior ‘in here’—inside your environment. In the first part of this interactive session, learn how Cisco’s Advanced Malware Protection (AMP) solutions use big data analytics to compare a real-time, dynamic history of your environment to the global threat landscape, automatically uncovering and blocking advanced threats before they strike. Then watch workflow examples demonstrating how your security team can use this advanced visibility and control to dramatically improve their efficiency and finally deliver the business 100% confidence answers.

Cisco Intelligent Branch - Enabling the Next Generation BranchCisco Canada
This session introduces the Cisco Intelligent WAN (IWAN) solution for providing highly available Enterprise WAN connectivity using less expensive Internet circuits. As the volume of content and applications traveling across networks grows exponentially, organizations must optimize their WAN investments. Cisco Intelligent WAN (IWAN) helps you do just that. IT can use investments in Cisco ISR 4000 Series and ASR 1000 Series Routers to scale to the growing demands of branch-office users by providing an optimal experience over any connection at lower cost. And you can do this without compromising performance, reliability, or security.</p>
During this session, we will explain how IWAN, will allow customers to quickly roll out bandwidth-intensive applications, such as video, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), and guest Wi-Fi services. And it doesn’t matter which transport model you prefer, whether MPLS, the Internet, cellular, or a hybrid WAN access model. The savings from IWAN often pay for the branch infrastructure investments, and may also free up resources for new, innovative business services.
Infrastructure as Code 101: Steve Tegeler + Nathan Ness, VMwareOpenStack
Audience: Beginner
About: As OpenStack gains traction in today’s enterprise environments, other cloudy concepts are beginning to take hold in enterprises as well. Today’s enterprises are transitioning from waterfall to agile, more interested in DevOps, and are adopting programmable infrastructure faster than ever before. To maximize returns on the investments today’s enterprises are making, IT departments need to learn new skills and new concepts. Infrastructure as Code (IAC) is one of those concepts that everyone hears a lot about, but in many cases, it is not well understood. SolarWinds Application Performance End User Survey (Public Sector Results)SolarWinds
The proliferation of BYOD, cloud, SaaS and consumer technologies in the public sector workplace have made the application the disruptive technology that will drive business IT into the coming decades. At the same time, the application delivery chain is becoming more complex to support as applications become more networked, virtualization drives IT infrastructure convergence and abstraction and end users become more mobile. These survey findings highlight the impact of application performance and availability on business end users, and their experiences with and expectations of IT when problems arise. Chief among the findings is that while the application is now the heart of businesses of all sizes and its performance is the lifeblood of success, IT continues to struggle to ensure its performance and availability.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
