They also help the patient with essential services such as psychotherapy, counselling and aiding the patient with any assistance they need (Judd & Sheffield, 2010).This helps the patient to recover, also they aid the patient assessing other services such as insurance covers.it is good to note that, the patient needs a lot of care, respect, dignity and a high level of confidentiality to help them boost their self-esteem which helps the patient to feel more comfortable to assess the health care services. Some of the issues involved in patient care that if not addressed can be disastrous include; complications, unnecessary treatment, unexamined instruments, wrong prescriptions among others. However, this problem can be minimized if the medical social worker carries out his duties professionally (Craig & Muskat, 2013). To ensure effective patient care services, more is needed to be done by the medical social worker. There is need to employ a variety of skills when handling a patient. This include; good listening skills, critical thinking, problem solving skills among others. Patient s need a lot of attention and thus medical social workers should take time to listen, ask questions where appropriate and avoid raising his/her emotions (Marshall, et al., 2011). Also, they need to ensure they employ good communication skills by speaking with the patients in a friendly and respectable manner. They need to use a language which is convenient to both the patient and their family. On top of this, there is need of the medical social worker to acquire more knowledge and specialize in the area that they feel they are comfortably work. This may include; specializing in areas such as children care, aging care, addiction and mental care among others (Mah & Johnstone, 2012).This will help the social worker to perform his duties well in the area of their expertise. This will drastically reduce instances where, patients are given wrongful prescription, complications, unnecessary treatment etc. References Craig, L., & Muskat, B. (2013).
