This presentation gives a basic overview of the Sage Library System, a consortium of over 72 public, academic, school, and special libraries in Oregon. More information about Sage can be found at http://catalog.sage.eou.edu.
This presentation discusses what happened when the Hood River County Library in Oregon closed in 2010 and reopened later as an independent library district. It discusses some of the positive and negative (mostly positive) aspects of being a district.
This presentation was last given at the annual membership meeting of Josephine Community Libraries Inc. in Grants Pass on July 28, 2012.
The services public libraries have offered to their patrons have changed dramatically over the last several decades. However, oftentimes their internal processes have remained largely the same. This presentation argues that libraries need to reflect on their internal processes just as much as their public services in order to be nimble enough to adapt to the many changes happening in the field.
