Is your cultural organization (library, museum, etc.) thinking about having a social media presence? Or do you already have an account and want tips? This presentation goes over how cultural organizations in Eastern Oregon are using social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter and gives some tips and best practices.
Last presented at the Eastern Oregon Word Roundup at the Wildhorse Casino in Pendleton, Oregon, October 26, 2012.
Are you an author wanting to make your work better known? This presentation uses the authors Neil Gaiman, Laurie Notaro, and Christopher Moore as examples of how authors use social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and blogging effectively to reach out to fans and promote their works.
Last given at the Eastern Oregon Word Roundup in Pendleton, Oregon, on October 27, 2012.
This presentation gives some basic information on the reopening of Hood River County's public libraries in Oregon.
This presentation was last given to the Hood River County Commissioners on October 17, 2011.
This presentation gives a basic overview of the Sage Library System, a consortium of over 72 public, academic, school, and special libraries in Oregon. More information about Sage can be found at http://catalog.sage.eou.edu.
Presentation given at Hood River County Library District's April 2 community visioning session for its April 2, 2016 strategic plan, detailing current library services, how well the library is doing, and what's planned for the future.
This presentation discusses what happened when the Hood River County Library in Oregon closed in 2010 and reopened later as an independent library district. It discusses some of the positive and negative (mostly positive) aspects of being a district.
This presentation was last given at the annual membership meeting of Josephine Community Libraries Inc. in Grants Pass on July 28, 2012.
The services public libraries have offered to their patrons have changed dramatically over the last several decades. However, oftentimes their internal processes have remained largely the same. This presentation argues that libraries need to reflect on their internal processes just as much as their public services in order to be nimble enough to adapt to the many changes happening in the field.
This presentation was last given at the Douglas County Library (Oregon) staff in-service on October 5, 2012.

Focus on story, don't be seduced by sexy tools: How journalists can create gr...Mirko Lorenz
This is a presentation for journalists and anybody interested in why and how stories can have impact. This is all about on how to find the best form for a strong story.
This is not easy. There are so many options and new tools. The key message of this presentation is that the focus should be on creating the story.
Which calls for an understanding why some stories are strong and lasting, while many are not. Additionally one must understand how the creation process works, which is best done by example and practice (of course).
The original presentation was held as the TASC Storycamp for the finalists of the African Story Challgenge, in Marrakesh, on August 11, 2014.

Stories bind us together as human beings. Visual storytelling in particular allow us to connect with one another and engage with the world around us in meaningful ways. As social media evolves photos, and the use of photography, aren’t simply relegated to a “photos” category, but rather photos / photography cross-cuts categories and provide a greater opportunity for engagement across the sharing economy. With more than a billion photos being uploaded each day—from crowd wisdom to match making and shopping to location-based discovery—brands, organizations, and individuals can leverage photography (visual storytelling) in very exciting and lucrative ways.

Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
