Due to the rapid development of the technological age, information on social media and the Internet is diverse. Moreover, in the past few years, there has been a significant increase in the number of children using mobile phones and social media. The data given by Jacqueline Howard in the article “What's the Age When Kids Start Social Media?” reflect the large number of children who own mobile phones and use social media: “The report found that, overall, 56% of the children had their own social media accounts, based on the parents’ survey responses. Among those children, the parents reported that the average age when initially signing up for the account was 12.6 years” (Howard). As a result, parents begin to worry about their children's use of technology and social media. The topic of whether or not children are allowed to use mobile phones and social media has attracted the attention of many parents and experts and generated different opinions. On the one hand, proponents believe that children should use social media to learn basic social and technical skills, to make friends with people around the world more easily, and to learn from their peers online. On the other hand, opponents believe that it would have a bad effect on children's mental health. Cyber bullying may occur and children may be unable to communicate better in real life. There are a number of pros and cons that come with using mobile phones and social media, and parental guidance can make a difference. People who agree that children can use mobile phones and social media think they can better understand the latest technology and learn basic social skills. The Internet can broaden children's horizons, can help the children know current affairs new, and can help them obtain all sorts of newest knowledge and information. In later life, these children can do research themselves. Through the Internet, children can enrich their minds obtain learn a lot of knowledge that cannot be learned in school by teachers. In addition, they can use social media to communicate with others. Some children lack confidence and dare not talk and communicate with the outside world. My tentative argumentative thesis statement is, social media access should be limited or prevented for young children. Giving internet access freely to young children without adult supervision/consent can put themselves and family at risk of internet stalkers, child predators, cyber bullying, and identity theft. As stated, “Parental monitoring of children’s media influences children’s sleeping habits, school routine, social and aggressive behaviors, and that these impacts are reconciled through the amount of time spent watching and contact with media violence. Parental monitoring of media has defensive impact on a wide variety of academic, social, and physical child habits.” Doing my research, I learned that a lot of parents give internet access freely to their child and don’t think about the effects it will have on their developmental skills and health.

Modern technology has been playing a significant role in children development. Nowadays technology has improved and is accessible in every home. As a result, it becomes fundamental in children development. Some of the appliances such as TVs, Radio, mobile phones and computers are the main aspects of technology that plays a significant role in children development. Also, the internet is one of the primary technology that has an enormous impact on children life. Many children have opened social network accounts where they correspond with their friends, post their feelings and follow updates. A survey was done in 2013 that involved interview of 1463 parents revealed that most youth uses media devices such as tablets, smartphones and follow TV programs. As a result, this technology has played a significant role in children development. Children have achieved various knowledge from technology and have exposed to the whole world. Nowadays, children have taken advantage of the shift from analogue digital. Most parents and guardians have bought their children mobile, computers, and tablets for gaming, learning and for fun. As the children grow, they keep advancing in technology. Therefore, technology has contributed to children positive development. However, it has adversely contributed to poor children growth and development. Since technology has both positive and adverse impacts children, kids should be restricted from harmful technologies. More so, parents and all players should ensure that children are not exposed to harmful technology that will adversely affect positive growth and development. However, the most affected are the teenagers who have become fanatics of these platforms and have made them part of their daily life to an extent they cannot spend a minute without accessing them. This has never implication on their ethics, behavior and even their education.
Social media has both positive and negative implications to the youths and this paper seeks to address these impacts with a special focus on the youths.
The positive impacts is that the youths can interact with one another without meeting physically across the globe and this has enhanced creation of friendship and therefore, strong social ties. Moreover, the youths stay updated on the events that happen around the world at the comfort of their rooms or working places. Also, many youths have made the social media a source of their income and have utilized it to improve their lives through improved connections.
Despite the good aspects connected to the social media, it has the negative side too and this has bad implications on the youths. To begin with, social media reduces face to interactions as they spend most of their time in these online platforms. This isolation result in psychological, emotional mental and physical effects to the youths. The minor are also introduced to immoral behaviors such as homosexuality, lesbianism and other sexual misconducts. Further, the youths are exposed to pornographic content which result in early pregnancies among the young girls and also increase the chance of contracting sexually transmitted infections.

Mark Davis has been
charged
with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) for reckless driving, speeding, four counts of felony assault, and one count of involuntary manslaughter as the result of a crash that occurred on a night out with his friends. Mark has been out on bail and pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned. The Judge set a date for Mark's trial and his defense team has been working to collect information about the technology used by the Highway Patrol to reconstruct the crash.
District Attorney O'Malley offered Mark a plea bargain, but Mark chose to take his chances at trial. Mark's attorney, Mr. Chen Long, advised Mark that accepting the plea offer was completely up to Mark, although Mr. Long advised against accepting it because the defense planned to highlight mistakes made by law enforcement during the investigation that could create reasonable doubt in the minds of the jurors.
The trial begins and during the voir dire of potential jurors, several individuals are excused because they have previous knowledge of Mark's case from the media. Two individuals stated that they could not be impartial because they had loved ones
killed
in alcohol related crashes as well. Eventually, two men and ten women were seated in Mark's trial.
District Attorney O'Malley presented the State's case clearly and concisely depicting a night on the town full of heavy drinking, which ultimately resulted in Mark's actions causing the death of one individual and injuring four others. Highway Patrolman Green explained to the jury that he immediately suspected alcohol when he arrived on scene because Mark appeared to be intoxicated when they spoke. Following the Judge ruling that it was admissible and not prejudicial, Sergeant Rodney Monroe, from the Highway Patrol Reconstruction Team presented their reconstruction complete with a high-tech computer animated reenactment of the crash. During the cross examination, Defense Attorney Long challenged the reconstruction because the Defense Crash Reconstruction Expert had discovered errors in the mathematical calculations for vehicle speed. The jury appeared to have liked the reconstruction very much regardless of the errors highlighted by the defense.
Mark was convicted of DWI, four counts of felony assault, and one count of involuntary manslaughter; however, he was acquitted of reckless driving and speeding. The Jury said they could not convict Mark of those offenses because of the mistakes made by law enforcement officers during the investigation.
Because Mark pleads not guilty, but was convicted during trial and had two prior DWI offenses, he was sentenced to ten years in the State Prison. Defense Attorney Long immediately notified the court of an impending appeal that would be filed by the defendant. In a report, using external sources to support your claims, answer the following:

harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. Embracing GenAI - A Strategic Imperative

It will absorb as much water as it can. Sometimes children are like a sponge: they will imitate the behavior of people around them or get information from the Internet and incorporate what they see into their lives. Due to the rapid development of the technological age, information on social media and the Internet is diverse. Moreover, in the past few years, there has been a significant increase in the number of children using mobile phones and social media. The data given by Jacqueline Howard in the article “What's the Age When Kids Start Social Media?” reflect the large number of children who own mobile phones and use social media: “The report found that, overall, 56% of the children had their own social media accounts, based on the parents’ survey responses. Among those children, the parents reported that the average age when initially signing up for the account was 12.6 years” (Howard). As a result, parents begin to worry about their children's use of technology and social media. The topic of whether or not children are allowed to use mobile phones and social media has attracted the attention of many parents and experts and generated different opinions. On the one hand, proponents believe that children should use social media to learn basic social and technical skills, to make friends with people around the world more easily, and to learn from their peers online. On the other hand, opponents believe that it would have a bad effect on children's mental health. Cyber bullying may occur and children may be unable to communicate better in real life. There are a number of pros and cons that come with using mobile phones and social media, and parental
- 2. guidance can make a difference. People who agree that children can use mobile phones and social media think they can better understand the latest technology and learn basic social skills. The Internet can broaden children's horizons, can help the children know current affairs new, and can help them obtain all sorts of newest knowledge and information. In later life, these children can do research themselves. Through the Internet, children can enrich their minds obtain learn a lot of knowledge that cannot be learned in school by teachers. In addition, they can use social media to communicate with others. Some children lack confidence and dare not talk and communicate with the outside world. Now with the Internet, these kids may overcome this psychological barrier and broaden their horizon in the process of this victual communication. Children can meet other people with the same interests, they can quickly make more friends through the topics they are interested in, and they can learn to build and maintain friendships and relationships. This can benefit for children. According to Ronaldo Tumbokon, “Social networks actually make kids more relationship-oriented, considerate, and emphatic. Kids remember people's birthday and greet them. They comment on pictures, videos and status of their friends. They create longer term friendships by being in touch online even when friends are no longer physically meeting”. People who object to children's use of mobile phone believe it leads to a decline in school performance and affect pupils' ability to express and communicate. Younger students are obsessed with playing mobile phones and addicted to social media spend hours a day. They have no control and planning ability, which leads to a lot of time reduction in doing homework and reviewing textbook knowledge and a decline in academic performance. In addition, do not understand the class, further decline in academic performance, and then produce weariness of learning. Such a vicious circle makes a small number of students do not even want to go to middle school,
- 3. and many parents hate their children to play mobile phones, and even use domestic violence means to stop. For example, Steve Jobs revealed in an interview with the New York Times that he has banned children from using the newly released iPad and limited how much technology his kid use at home. in addition, “many other tech experts also limited their children’s screen time, from the co-founder of Twitter to the former editor of Wired magazine” (Jean). Even though there are a number of risks associated with social media use, there are some strategies that can help reduce the potential for harm. As guardians of their children, parents want the best for their children in addition to worrying about their children being hurt. When parents face their children's use of social media, they can first make a series of prevention and protection measures. Parents can learn some basic information about these sites before their children use social media. They should let their children know about the dark side of the Internet. There are risks in using it. Ronaldo also offers some advice, such as telling children to spend more time on real-life friendships and activities, which allow for real face-to-face interaction. As well as encouraging kids to be interested in other aspects, in the real life to do more interesting activities. In addition, when the child use social media, parents can set rules with their child about how much time they spend online. “Mental health peaks at an hour a day of device use, with issues becoming more frequent among those using devices two, and especially three or more hours a day”(Jean). It is benefit for children to use it in a reasonable time. “Should we instead adopt
- 4. a cold turkey strategy and just take teenagers’ phones away? The research suggests this is not a good idea. Young people who don’t use smartphones or social media at all are less well- adjusted than teens who use them a little – perhaps because teen social life these days requires at least some digital media” (Jean). To sum up, people have different opinions on this topic. While social media has many benefits, it can also affect children in unhealthy ways. For some adverse effects on children, parents can take some measures to reduce them. People should treat the influence of these technologies correctly. “In the meantime, smartphone owners of all ages should be thinking about how to use their devices safely – meaning for a few hours a day, not for most of it. Let your phone be a tool you use – not a tool that uses you” (Jean). In addition to the impact on children, all age groups need to pay attention.
