Editor's Notes
SMT began as a small company in 1984, but in the last few years our technology has propelled us into the market share leader for interpretation. We have doubled in size in just 3 years. And our success if driven by our focus on technology which accounts for 80% of our employees.
A 3rd Party research organization, Welling & Co, does yearly independent analysis of our market. Versus all major competitors they found that we were used by more companies than any other solution for interpretation. In addition, in the US onshore, which is now dominated by unconventional players, we have a dominant 75% share.
We believe customers who want to maximize recovery and minimize cost and time need some key things, which we focus on. They need optimized workflows that remove productivity bottlenecks that come not having the right tools at the right time. They need the leading science to reduce risk and increase accuracy. And increasingly, they need more real time data from the well site to be incorporated back into their field evaluation workflow to make better, faster drilling decisions. And to ensure that companies have not just the technology, but the people and the process in place, we provide top rated services, training, and support.
Today’s resource plays require detailed analysis to optimize recovery and reduce risk. KINGDOM is known for bringing advanced science, previously available in niche applications and specialists, to the desktop of every interpreter. High-end science simplified and integrated into every interpreter’s workflow enables more rapid analysis and reduces risk – asset team members leverage the science that is available. Advanced seismic attribute analysis, through co-blending and combining multiple attributes, especially in 3D space, provides insight into subtle reservoir characteristics such as fracturing, for example. AVO Analysis can reveal orientation of fracture trends.Accurate depth conversion is required to reduce risk when drilling horizontal wells. And KINGDOM offers much, much more.
The fast-paced exploitation of fields requires tight collaboration between geologist, geophysicists, and engineers – sharing data and ideas, leveraging the tools available to each domain to most efficiently develop the asset. This interaction must occur in real- or near-time to be effective. We are now adding support for WITSML to get drilling information in real time.In addition, we are developing advanctedGeoSteering integration to auto-correlate and predict the drill log data using reference well information.

Workflow Optimization Enhanced multi-user workflows – Q1Officially releasing authored mistie and authored time-depth. This specific feature was expedited for CHK and has been deployed at CHK for a few months now. Real time 3rd party interoperability Adding support for OpenSpirit’s Application Adapter that will allow users in KINGDOM to send/receive data from other OpenSpirit Application Adapter enabled applications Automated fault pickingExpanding on our very successful “Seeker” technology to automatically pick fault surfaces using a few seed picksAdvanced ScienceAdvanced fault surface modeling – Q1 New fault triangulation engine that allows users to interpret complex fault surfaces and generate more accurate maps quicklyModeling while interpretingSeal faults/horizon/grids during interpreting so that you have an accurate geological model as you interpret data rather than building the model as a separate step that can be time consuming and error prone3D visualization of geologic x-sectionsDisplay and interpret cross-sections in true 3D instead of building 2D flat profilesReal Time Integration Microseismic interpretation – Q1 Display and analyze microseismic data using a workflow that is fully integrated in KINGDOM. Filter/analyze data and see the results in VuPAK, vertical displays and map view.Real time geosteeringReal time update of well data with ability to auto-correlate and predict the drill log data using reference well informationImproved well path planningAdd workflows in KINGDOM that will simplify generation of well plans. This enhancement is being done in conjunction with CHK.
Integrating microseismic data analysis with seismic and geological data brings the asset team members together at the natural intersections of their domains, resulting in increased understanding of the reservoir and the drilling program effectiveness, in less time.
