Image Analysis
1. Beyoncé is a famous R&B/ Soul
singer. She looks extremely attractive and has bright red lipstick on as red is seen as the most
attractive colour worn on a woman therefore it’s stereotypical for women to dress this way. Her hair
and makeup is applied perfectly. The balance of the photo is formal as both sides of her face look
symmetrical despite her hair and despite the different painting on both sides of her cheeks. It is
stereotypical for famous women singers to look attractive on their album cover even if its down to
photo shopping therefore it shows that women aren’t just for their voice or how successful they may
be but their looks.
The Smiths were a very well-known Indie band formed in Manchester, famous in the 1980s. This
photo almost looks natural as if it isn’t posed for and it only took a few minutes to take whereas the
Beyoncé image looks highly edited and a posed face full of makeup. It looks like no effort has been
put into the image as it’s not edited and what you see is what you get. The big heavy coats look quite
intimidating however it’s not really what men wear nowadays so it shows how fashion changes over
the years. The black and white effect on the image looks quite indie which reflects the genre of their
music.
2. Kanye West is a famous performing artist who focuses on the
genres hip hop and rap music. Kanye West usually never smiles and has quite a stern face which is
emphasised on this image. His album was called heartbroken which is resemblance by the heart on
his chest with a jagged cut across the middle. His glasses could emphasise that he sees life in a dark
way and is quite moody/angry which can be reflected in his music. His suit makes him look well
dressed and smart.
Tom Odell is an indie/pop artist. This image
focuses on Tom Odell and blurs out the whole background to emphasise how he is in the spotlight.
The colours of the floor surrounding him almost blend in with his outfit which could show how he is
seen as an outcast. His hair is long and blonde which almost looks quite similar to Leonardo DiCapri o
hair who was an iconic figure. The outfit that he is wearing isn’t something that an old man would
wear therefore it shows how fashion differs on certain aspects such as age or gender.
3. N Dubz is a Hip-hop/Rap band who is all
quite young. Their music is quite original as there aren’t many famous bands like them. Tulisa is very
dressed up with her makeup done heavily with bright pink lips. Her nails are done and she is wearing
accessories in hope to make her look more attractive. Her hair is in extremely tight curls which
emphasises on how she takes care of her appearance. The dress she is wearing is very tight which is
stereotypical as girls feel they need to show their body off to get noticed or to feel attractive in
themselves. The two boys are both dressed in bright purple metallic jackets which are very in your
face, they aren’t dressing smart or classy instead they’re dressing like they’re trying to create their
own fashion such as theyre both wearing hats which look quite silly.
