The Changing Face Of Kylie Minogue
Kylie Monigue began as an actress in Australia- “Neighbours”
Pop career began in 1987
She constantly reinvented her image though music videos/song/tour
THE STORY BEGINS...
1980’s Target Audience: When kylie first started her music career, her target audience were teenage girls aged 10-13 year olds. Appearance: She had the innocent girl next door look with baggy jeans and curly hair with not much makeup. Dance: Her dancing in her music videos were very innocent and she was on her own just trying to have fun. She seemed very energetic Values: Being cheerful and chilled out is fun You don’t need someone from the opposite sex to have fun Lyrics: “In my imagination, There is no complication, I dream about you all the time, In my mind a celebration, The sweetest of sensation Thinking you could be mine” the lyrics are very childish and innocent.
Early 1990’s Target Audience: Her target audience started to change into boys and girls in their late teens as she started to become a little intimidating to young teen girls. Appearance: She started to look more glamorous and sophisticated in a sexual way to attract attention from the opposite sex and be admired by girls. Dance: Her dancing started to change into choreographed dance routines where she is the centre on attention. Values: You should look attractive for the opposite sex. Lyrics: “We all get hurt by love ,And we all have our cross to bear ,But in the name of understanding now ,Our problems should be shared.”From the lyrics you can see that it sounds more mature and deep.
Late 1990’s Target Audience: She attracted a wider male audience because of her looks. Appearance: Her appearance started to be more sexy and daring which looked intimidating and empowering for some audiences. Values: You should be independent. There is no harm in flirting all the time. Dance: She became more independent as she started dancing on her own with outfits that showed a lot of skin. Lyrics: “I've got nothin' left to hide, No reason left to fight, 'Cuzthe truth's given me a new freedom inside, Gettin' rid of my desire, Do you like what you see?” From these lyrics we can see that she seems very confident and daring towards the opposite sex.
2000’s Target Audience: Her target audience started to be young adults in their 20’s as she started to make a lot of songs that became very popular in clubs. Appearance: Her appearance was still very sexual but in an aggressive and intimidating way. Values: You should be confident with yourself. Dance: Her dance routines started to have more backup dancers and the style of it was less sexual than the ones before but her outfits were more daring than any of the other years. Lyrics: “I just can’t get you out of my head , Boy your loving is all I think about, I just can’t get you out of my head ,Boy it’s more than I dare to think about.” The lyrics have a aggressive but daring tone.
