An interactive flat panel display (IFPD) is a cutting-edge technological solution that combines the features of a traditional flat-panel display with interactive capabilities, creating an engaging and dynamic visual communication platform. These displays are often used in educational settings, corporate environments, conference rooms, and collaborative spaces to enhance presentations, brainstorming sessions, training programs, and more.
Key features of interactive flat panel displays include:
Touch Sensitivity: Interactive flat panels feature touch-sensitive screens that can detect multiple touch points simultaneously. This enables users to interact with the content displayed using gestures like tapping, swiping, pinching, and dragging.
High-Resolution Display: These displays usually have high-definition or even 4K resolution, ensuring crisp and clear visuals. This is essential for displaying intricate details, text, images, and videos effectively.
Large Screen Size: Interactive flat panels are available in various sizes, ranging from around 55 inches to over 100 inches diagonally. The large screen size ensures that content is visible to a wider audience in both small and large meeting spaces.
Interactive Software Compatibility: The displays are typically compatible with interactive software applications that allow users to draw, annotate, highlight, and manipulate content in real-time. This functionality enhances collaboration and engagement during presentations, lectures, and discussions.
Connectivity: IFPDs often come equipped with various ports and connectivity options, such as HDMI, USB, DisplayPort, and wireless capabilities, making it easy to connect and display content from different devices like laptops, tablets, smartphones, and cameras.
Built-in Tools: Some interactive flat panels feature built-in tools like virtual whiteboards, note-taking apps, and document annotation tools. These tools simplify content creation, brainstorming, and collaborative activities.
Multi-User Interaction: Modern interactive flat panels support multi-user interaction, allowing several individuals to interact with the display simultaneously. This feature is particularly useful in group activities, training sessions, and brainstorming.
Remote Collaboration: Many IFPDs offer remote collaboration capabilities, enabling participants from different locations to interact with the display and contribute to discussions in real-time. This is valuable for teams working across different geographical areas.
Intuitive User Interface: User-friendly interfaces and intuitive controls make it easy for both tech-savvy and non-technical users to navigate and make the most of the interactive features.
Durability: These displays are designed to be robust and durable to withstand frequent touch interactions and maintain performance over time.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
