many more using the Academic Support
Services at DSC.
The three Academic Support Service Areas are:
• The Academic Support Centers
• The DSC-UCF Writing Centers
• DSC Library Services
4. Let’s look at the Academic Support Centers
which are located on every campus.
5. The Academic Support Centers provide free, on-
demand tutoring services. ASC tutors can:
• Provide patient and helpful
assistance in a positive
environment.
• Answer questions about
course concepts.
• Review and explain
assignments.
• Offer suggestions on how to
study course content.
• Provide assistance with
computer software such as
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
6. To use the Academic Support Center’s
tutoring services, just visit any ASC location.
• Make sure to login at the front desk computer.
• Tutors can answer your questions about English,
Math, Modern Languages, Business, Science,
Technology, and many other subjects.
• To make sure everyone in the lab can receive help,
tutors will provide help in 15 minute increments as
often as needed.
• Tutoring information and schedules for specific kinds
of tutoring can be found on the ASC’s website.
7. Other ASC resources and services include:
• “Helpful Handouts and Links” on
the ASC website.
• Supplemental Instruction (SI) –
free, weekly group study sessions
for historically difficult courses.
• Workshops that provide test prep
(GKT for prospective Education
majors and TEAS for prospective
Nursing majors) and more.
• Test Review Sessions are offered
for some courses. Check the test
review calendar on the ASC
website.

campus* for help with all your writing and
communication projects.

is to make an appointment.

minutes.
• You can schedule up to 3
appointments per week.

12. Finally we have DSC Library Services. There
are two physical libraries at Daytona State
College.
13. In addition, almost all of our resources, including
research assistance, can be accessed from the website.

magazines, and research journals.
• Find and read over 175,000 e-books.
• Watch thousands of streaming videos.
• Order books to be delivered to your home campus.
• Renew books online.
• Use dozens of InfoGuides to get started on your
research.
• Get help via phone, e-mail, or live chat.
15. Checking Out Books
• Your Student ID is your Library
Card.
• You can have up to 20 books
checked out at one time.
• Books check out for 2 weeks and
can be renewed online via My
Account.
• The overdue fine is 25 cents per
book, per day.
• If your campus does not have a
library, ordered books will be
sent to your campus ASC for you
to pick up.
16. You can begin a search using the QuickSearch box
or search for a particular type of resource.
17. The result screen will look new and list all the resources the library
has available for your topic. You will have to log in to view electronic
resources.
18. Your Library Services Login is your Student ID# and the
PIN is the last 4 digits of your social security number.
19. InfoGuides are a great way to get started with research
for a particular subject area or topic.
20. There are InfoGuides for dozens subjects and topics and
new ones are always being created.
