SLIDING COMPOUND MITRE SAW
SETTING UP
Check the machine is in a safe working order and report any defects to staff:
• Visually check the blade is sharp
• Check the saw is fixed firmly to prevent tipping
• Check guard for any defects and is operating freely
• Ensure back fence is accurately located for the particular operation
• For angle cuts, make sure locking screw is tightened firmly
• Identify the position of the stop and start switch located in the handle
• Check power extension cord for any defects and locate cord to prevent damage during
operation
• Check the sliding arms move freely
• if machine being operated as a drop mitre saw, ensure sliding arms are locked
• Locate safety equipment
Earmuffs - compulsory
Safety Footwear - compulsory
• Do not work in loose clothing and secure long hair close to head
• Check the work area, floor and saw bench are clear of obstructions at all times
OPERATION
• Check the timber for defects before and during operation and eliminate defects
• Ensure safety equipment is worn
• Total concentration is required when operating the machine
• Do not have any objects in the path of the saw
• Allow the machine to reach full operating speed before and after cutting and don’t overload
the machine
• During the slide cutting operation, first pull the carriage toward you fully and press the handle
fully down, then push the saw toward the guide fence
• While holding the timber against the bench, keep hands well away from the line of cut
• Maintain a balanced stance firmly on both feet
• Do not perform any operation freehand
• Do not cross your arms to grip the timber. Alter your stance and grip timber with the other
hand
• Switch off the machine when finished
• After the blade has stopped, clear away off cuts and leave the machine clean and tidy using a
brush
• If the machine is damaged during operation, isolate and report immediately to a staff member
• Leave the machine and area where working clean and tidy
