Animation basics: The optical illusion of motionAlicia Garcia
How do animators make still images come to life? Are the images really moving, or are they merely an optical illusion? TED-Ed takes you behind the scenes to reveal the secret of motion in movies.
Terre à terre is a project which began in February 2014. Ben and Lucile travelled to Nagambie, Victoria, to dig up some clay from Matt and Lentils zero waste farm. There, after inspecting different areas of the farm they returned home with 2 types of clay. Back in Melbourne, they processed the clays by sifting and soaking, to make slip. Their empirical research, to determine the best density and composition of the clay, finally resulted in a successful recipe for workable slip.
Parallel to the material research, they began a dialogue with Matt and Lentil to research which objects would they need and would be relevant to produce out of their clay. In an interesting twist, they requested that the plates could be completely returned to the earth after use. Ben and Lucile decided on 3 firing stages which would also determine the usability of the objects, and their potential re-use. Together, they agreed to produce bowls, cups, and containers for their wedding, which took place early April 2014. Thus, Ben and Lucile produced tableware for the event, and after the dinner, the ceramics were smashed and added to the compost.
Grow is a workshop for children to explore scientific principles of growth through connecting drinking straws. In collaboration with Lucile Sciallano and Briony Barr.
Between Filth and Fortune- Urban Cattle Foraging Realities by Devi S Nair, An...Mansi Shah
This study examines cattle rearing in urban and rural settings, focusing on milk production and consumption. By exploring a case in Ahmedabad, it highlights the challenges and processes in dairy farming across different environments, emphasising the need for sustainable practices and the essential role of milk in daily consumption.
Transforming Brand Perception and Boosting Profitabilityaaryangarg12
In today's digital era, the dynamics of brand perception, consumer behavior, and profitability have been profoundly reshaped by the synergy of branding, social media, and website design. This research paper investigates the transformative power of these elements in influencing how individuals perceive brands and products and how this transformation can be harnessed to drive sales and profitability for businesses.
Through an exploration of brand psychology and consumer behavior, this study sheds light on the intricate ways in which effective branding strategies, strategic social media engagement, and user-centric website design contribute to altering consumers' perceptions. We delve into the principles that underlie successful brand transformations, examining how visual identity, messaging, and storytelling can captivate and resonate with target audiences.
Methodologically, this research employs a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative analyses. Real-world case studies illustrate the impact of branding, social media campaigns, and website redesigns on consumer perception, sales figures, and profitability. We assess the various metrics, including brand awareness, customer engagement, conversion rates, and revenue growth, to measure the effectiveness of these strategies.
The results underscore the pivotal role of cohesive branding, social media influence, and website usability in shaping positive brand perceptions, influencing consumer decisions, and ultimately bolstering sales and profitability. This paper provides actionable insights and strategic recommendations for businesses seeking to leverage branding, social media, and website design as potent tools to enhance their market position and financial success.
64. “Critical Design uses speculative
design proposals to challenge narrow
assumptions, preconceptions and
givens about the role products play in
every day life. It is more of an attitude
than anything else, a position rather
than a method.
It’s opposite is affirmative design:
design that reinforces the status quo.”
Hertzian Tales – Dunne and Raby 1999
66. ASSESSMENT BRIEF 1
Shuteye - Dream journal – 20%
Throughout the semester you will keep a dream journal. You may use any medium
to record your dreams, though it must be contained in some sort of chronologi-
cal order. The journal will be assessed on its depth of detail and expression. The
dream journal will trigger other ideas and processes in your work. It should come
naturally. Could also encompass a Dream resume.
67. ASSESSMENT BRIEF 2
Deep sleep - Sleep research – 30%
Over 4 weeks investigate sleep using design fiction techniques through 4 separate
projects 1) singular or personal experience; 2) pair, group or social phenomenon;
3) scientific, political, or state policies around sleep, and 4) theoretical/metaphysi-
cal/psychological approaches.
In each of these areas, create a small design fiction project – which may be part
research, and part story. It is not important what is true and what is not – but it
must be believable.
Video will be the key medium used to express these design fictions.
68. ASSESSMENT BRIEF 3
Sleeper Cells – Final Project – 45%
Construct an elaborate and detailed fiction about sleep and people who sleep. Use
a variety of media and technology to illustrate this fiction. Refer to critical theory
practices in the development of your fictional scenario. You should employ tech-
niques of blurring reality with fiction within the project. Utilize video as well as ob-
jects and artefacts to address the topic within sleep.
DIGITAL ARCHIVE 5%
Coordinator will send brief out to all students mid semester.

because people ingest your work!
I’ll go first next week
75. 2
Research the following
projects and lead a
5-10 minute discussion
on the issues and
conundrums it presents
(can use projection to
show images etc)
76.
