Cancer Treatment Centers of America® (CTCA) at Southwestern Regional Medical Center (Southwestern) is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The hospital serves much of the Southwestern United States, including the major metropolitan areas of Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, Dallas and Houston.
Cancer is a life-taking disease typically characterized by uncontrollable growth of cells. There are more than 100 types of identified cancers and all these types are classified according to the type of cells that are affected initially.
More than 900 hospitals are listed in Cancer. All are experienced in treating difficult cases — a hospital is listed only if at least 251 inpatients in need of high level of expertise in this specialty were treated there in 2009, 2010 and 2011. The top 50 hospitals are ranked, based on score. The rest are listed alphabetically.
ROJoson PEP Talk: Thyroid Cancer Development - Fundamentals and GeneralitiesReynaldo Joson
This document summarizes a presentation on fundamentals and generalities in the development of thyroid cancer. It discusses what thyroid cancer is, types of thyroid cancer, possible causes including genetics and radiation exposure, risk factors, and prevention strategies. The presentation aims to provide laypeople with a basic understanding of thyroid cancer development.
Neuroendocrine carcinomas are a type of cancer that arises from neuroendocrine cells found throughout the body. Unlike most cancers that form in organ linings, neuroendocrine tumors originate from endocrine and nervous system cells. While they tend to progress more slowly than other cancers, the likelihood of metastasis increases with tumor size. The most common sites are the small intestine, lungs, and rectum. Proper classification is important for understanding prognosis and treatment.
Cancer and its types - an introduction to cancerAshish Jawarkar
This document discusses the history and current state of cancer. It notes that cancer occurs when cells grow out of control and details some key events in cancer's history such as the first descriptions in ancient Egypt and Greece. The document outlines several causes of cancer like tobacco, viruses, and radiation. It discusses how cancer spreads and common screening tests for early detection of breast, cervical, prostate, colon, and lung cancers. The takeaway message is that cancer has affected humanity for millennia but screening and research into molecular mechanisms can help control and potentially cure cancer at early stages.
A common stereotype of manhood is the resistance to professional assistance. This includes stopping to ask for directions. Hiring someone to fix the kitchen sink. And most dangerous of all, the "no need" attitude towards visits to the doctor.
This is why the BTB Foundation has partnered with the Testicular Cancer Society to help spread awareness about the risks and symptoms of testicular cancer. Even with one of the highest survival rates among cancerous diseases, an astonishing 390 men die annually from this illness. One of the biggest contributors to this statistic is the lack of education.
When men know the risks and get to their doctor when symptoms surface, there is a 96% survival rate. For all those men who have been taken by this disease, share the following information about testicular cancer with every man you know. It's time to save a life.

Cancer pathogenesis starts with genetic mutations that cause cells to grow abnormally and potentially spread. The major hallmarks of cancer include continuous and uncontrolled cell growth, avoidance of programmed cell death, and formation of blood vessels and metastases. While genetics are a factor, the majority of cancers are caused by environmental exposures like tobacco, diet, infections, radiation and pollution. Cancer types are classified by the cells they originate from. While not always a death sentence, cancer symptoms vary depending on location and spread.

Wilms tumor is the most common type of kidney cancer in children. It typically affects children between ages 3-5 years old and presents as a unilateral tumor in the kidney, though 5% of cases are bilateral. The exact cause is unknown but genetic factors are involved. Treatment involves surgery to remove the tumor along with chemotherapy and sometimes radiation therapy. Due to advances in multidisciplinary treatment, survival rates for Wilms tumor are now around 90%.
Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 12% of deaths globally. In 2008 there were an estimated 12.7 million new cancer cases and 7.6 million cancer deaths. The global cancer burden is expected to nearly double by 2030. Tobacco use is responsible for approximately 50% of cancer deaths. Other major risk factors include diet, infections, environmental exposures, and genetic factors. Prevention strategies focus on reducing tobacco use, promoting healthy diets, vaccinations, and screening programs. Treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy and stem cell transplantation.

Cancer is an abnormal and unrestrained growth of cells that can form tumors and spread to other parts of the body. It is a major public health problem worldwide and in Nigeria. Early detection through screening and lifestyle changes like avoiding smoking can help prevent cancer or detect it early. However, many Nigerians present with late-stage cancer due to lack of awareness, screening programs, and limited healthcare resources. The document calls for more investment in cancer care, research, and education to improve early detection and treatment of cancer in Nigeria.
The document discusses various theories of cancer causation that have been proposed over the centuries. It describes early theories such as the humoral theory, lymph theory, and blastema theory. It then discusses major 20th century theories including the cellular theory, biochemical theory, noxious theory, somatic theory, and regulatory theory. Key concepts of theories like the multistep theory, mutagenesis theory, epigenetics theory, oncogene hypothesis, tumor suppressor gene theory, and cancer stem cell hypothesis are summarized. The document also discusses Knudsen's two-hit theory and theories of immunosurveillance and immunoediting.
No one could have predicted the widespread impact it would have when the then National Cancer Association was established in 1931. Today, the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) plays a leading role in cancer research and cancer control policy development, as well as providing care, support and education to South Africans affected by the dreaded disease.
