We use the simple present:
 For things that are generally true:
- The earth goes around the sun.
 To describe habits:
- He drinks coffee at breakfast.
 To describe routines:
- I go to the gym every day.

Habit ≠ Routine
Habit = An action we do with little or no conscious thought.
Routine = An action we do with high degree of intention and effort.
