Editor's Notes
Open access publishing – free Internet access. Increase potential readership Increase visibility of research and citation count Make publicly funded research publicly available Challenge traditional publishing business models
The original SHERPA partnership was formed for the SHERPA project (2002-2006) and drew from research-led universities with an active interest in establishing an example of a then-new concept - an open access institutional repository. After a year, the original 7 development partners were joined by 6 more partners to form a partnership of 21 individual institutions. We now have 33 partners and affiliates overall, consisting of 32 HE institutions, and the British Library. SHERPA DP Completed project which looked at preservation models for open access repositories, funded by JISC and managed by AHDS. SHERPA/RoMEO RoMEO is a continuing project developing and maintaining a database that lists journals' and publishers' copyright agreements. OpenDOAR OpenDOAR is building an authoritative directory of worldwide open access repositories, along with associated services and information to act as a community and m2m bridge between repositories and service providers. DRIVER Completed major European project with 10 international partners, developing a cross-European repository network infrastructure Repositories Support Project (RSP) A major UK initiative funded by JISC for a support service for the development of repositories. EThOS Completed UK project to build a national eTheses service, in which SHERPA was a partner.
