Alexander the Great conquered the Persian Empire and northern India by 325 BC. He left some Greek soldiers behind in India to establish cities and interact with locals, exchanging cultural knowledge. The soldiers utilized a workforce of writers, artists, sculptors and teachers to build in the Indus Valley and Afghanistan, helping Greeks and Indians learn about each other.

However, he was also known for his ruthless tactics such as destroying Thebes and showing no mercy towards resisting armies. After his death, his empire quickly fractured as his generals fought over the territory.
