The document outlines a unit plan for teaching basic sign language to a kindergarten classroom over the course of a week. The class has 25 students from a variety of racial backgrounds, some of whom have been diagnosed with or show signs of ADHD. 2. Analyze the Learners
◦ General: Kindergarten Classroom, 25 students ( 12 boys 13 girls), 18 Caucasian, 6 African
American, 1 Latino. 2 of these students have been diagnosed with ADHA, while 3 others show
signs of ADHD.
◦ Learning Styles: Many of the students are mainly kinesthetic learners (2/3 of class), while the
others are visual learners. (1/3 of class)
◦ Learning Competencies: The students will know some of the basics of sign language and will be
able to use some signs in the classroom. (restroom, yes, no, water, ect.)

3. Objective
◦ Students will learn and demonstrate basic signs of sign language by
daily repetition and use of signs in the classroom through
demonstrations, presentations, copy and repeat games, videos and
drawing by the end of one full week with 95-100 percent accuracy.

4. Day by Day
1- class will learn and discuss sign language, what is it, why should we know
it, who needs it. Will watch educational videos about topic.
2- class will begin to learn the very basics of sign language. Demonstrations
by myself to show class. (letters, yes and no signs)
3-continue to learn more signs. Copy and repeat games and beginning to
draw one of the letters they learned.
4- a sign language interpreter will come to class and speak with the
students. Educational and interactive games.
5-will watch Sesame Street Sign Language episode while students draw the
letters of their name in the correct signs

5. Use of Technology
◦ Smart board and projector for videos, making sure it all is working
properly.
◦ Make sure to have all craft items organized and ready for student use.
◦ Sign Language book of signs.
◦ Make sure the presenter is still coming and knows when and where to be.
