Born on May 6, 1856 in Freiberg, Moravia, Austrian
Empire
His Father Jakob was a wool merchant and his mother
was Amalie Nathanson
Graduated secondary school in 1873 - Summa Cum
Laude
3. • In 1873, Freud began to study
medicine at the University of
Vienna.
• After graduating, he worked at the
Vienna General Hospital. He
collaborated with Josef Breuer in
treating hysteria by the recall of
painful experiences under hypnosis.
• In 1876, he was introduced to a
physiology professor Ernst von
Brucke. Through him, Freud was
able to get a grant to study with
psychiatrist Jean Charcot in Paris.
• On his return to Vienna, Freud set
up in private practice specialising in
nervous and brain disorders.
• In 1886, he married Martha
Bernays, with whom he had six
children.
4. 1n 1902, Freud was appointed as a professor at Vienna
University
In 1906, Freud and seventeen other men met to form
Psychoanalytic Society.
In 1923, he was diagnosed with mouth and jaw cancer.
1930’s, he and his family moved to England where he spent
the rest of his life
September 29, 1939 Sigmund Freud died from mouth and
jaw cancer

the executive that governs, controls and regulates the
personality known as the “Reality Principle”
