GASCO UAE (2016- present):
Profile held : Senior Process Engineer {PMC team} for EPC of sour gas treatment
project. {Extremely fast track EPC project of Pipelines revamp and new gas sweetening
unit and filtration units}
Project objective: To build ability to supply GASCO gas to Fujairah power plant, in case of
outage Dolphin gas from Qatar. GASCO gas being sour needs sweetening, before introducing
gas into the sweet gas line which normally operates at high pressure. Needs careful hydraulic
study of complicated gas pipeline network.
My key activities {EPC detailed engineering} :
For solid catalyst based H2S removal unit: datasheets, bid evaluations including guarantees.
Similar activities for depth cartridge type gas filters.
Pipeline hydraulic studies – steady state and transient analysis, P&IDs, HAZOP review.

To assess completeness of feasibility study carried out by Totalfina.
To prepare Scope of Work for FEED co-ordinating all discipline inputs. Ensuring contractual
aspects of Process Licensor guarantees and licensor’s basic engg. package. Detailed bid
evaluation of FEED tender and making bid evaluation – order recommendation. Handled
revision in gas forecast.
FEED execution: Deputed to WorleyParson’s UK office [process licensor and FEED
contractor] for engineering coordination of Sulfur recovery Upgrade project, involving new
Tailgas treatment unit (TGTU). Document reviews, Hazop participation, Hazop closeouts. Co-
ordination with QP Operations for implementation of QP procedures, QP standards into
project documents.
EPIC tendering: Scope of work preparation, resolving bidders’ technical queries with FEED
Contractor, bid evaluations, technical recommendation

EPIC detailed engg.: Camped at Contractor (Petrofac’s) Sharjah office to lead and guide the
Contractor’s team to develop engineering meeting QP tender requirements of quality, QP
standards, Project objectives and Operational/ safety requirements.
o Task was achieved by checking contractor’s engg. deliverables e.g. P&IDs, PFDs,
Mass balances, datasheets, specifications.
o Addressing any disputes regarding Contractual Scope requirements.
o Conducted Design review providing necessary inputs about existing SRU plant
information and specific details of Worley Parsons FEED development related to any
particular subject.
o Conducted HAZOP reviews and facilitated close-outs, resolving any disagreements.
o Simulated sulfur recovery units on Promax for assisting engineering.
EPIC construction commissioning support and handling deviations from specs
NGL complex revamp-RAG Utilisation Project (Front End Engg Design):
Rich Associated Gas Utilisation project consisting of revamp of various gas stripping units,
NGL fractionation units, product treatment units (sulphur removal) cryogenic separation units
as well as gas transportation pipelines.
My Responsibilities: (deputed to FEED contractor’s UK and UAE offices)
Coordinated process engineering activity of FEED contractor Petrofac in terms of checking
technical correctness, focus of project objectives, providing guidance wrt following :
-Simulation models and resulting PFD heat material balance for NGL separation and
fractionation units. Provided guidance in terms of using proper column tray efficiencies,
product specifications criterias, recoveries etc.
-Based on firmed up heat and material balance assess adequacy of existing equipment
resulting in adequacy reports.
-Checked and corrected P&IDs, equipment datasheets. Instrument and controlvalve
datasheets.
-Provided guidance in making flare load summaries for all NGL plants under revamped
condition.
-Prepared Scope of Work for EPIC tender covering all revamp modifications.
-Scope of work was finalized for Process licensors (Shell Global and UOP) for
arriving at sulphur compond distribution in various products propane, butane etc. by
simulation.
-Assessing existing ADIP, Merox and Mol. Sieve units vis-a-vis new duty for revamp condition
and recommending modifications.
-Provided interface with QP operations / Petrofac to facilitate above work of Licensors.
-Conducted HAZOP reviews providing guidance and engineering inputs. Guided formulation
of emergency shutdown and blowdown philosophy, corresponding cause-and-effect diagrams.
-Optimisation of Propane refrigeration system including sizing of Knockout drums as per Shell
DEP, sizing of recycle and quench loops.
-Detailed Pipephase simulations were carried out for 200 km gas feed pipeline in order to
determine liquid hold up and slug catcher requirement.

Flare Mitigation & Liquid recovery Project for NGL plants (EPIC)
Environmentally driven project consisting of New smokeless flares combined for the NGL
plants and gas pipelines. Burnpits are eliminated, plant facilities added for recovery of
hydrocarbons sent to burnpits. Gas recovery and compression systems added for mitigation of
operational flaring.
My activities: (deputed to FEED and EPIC contractor’s UK and UAE offices)
FEED related:
Addressed and compiled Revisions required to the already completed FEED in order to make
it suitable for revised gas feed data of plant. Also, optimized the FEED done for recovery
systems. Addressed all aspects in EPIC tender.
EPIC Tender related:
EPIC tender definition detailing scope of work including contractual aspects of guarantees.
EPIC bid evaluation following clarifications. Inter discipline co-ordination, Tender evaluation
and recommendation report.
Detailed engineering : Guiding the Contractor’s engg office about following (camped at
Petrofac’s Sharjah office) :
❑ Hazop review and close-out
❑ Relief valve sizing, control valve sizing
❑ Blowdown simulations as per API 521 and blowdown valve sizing (including sizing for
supercritical fluid conditions)
❑ Env. Impact assessment (EIA), Quantitative risk assessment study, air dispersion
modeling for flares, thermal radiation calculations for flares.
❑ A detailed hydraulic analysis (Hysys : Flarenet) was carried out for the flare network of
the NGL plants simulating all relief scenarios for various firezones of the large network
(60 relief valves and 10 blowdown valves). The simulation output was used to verify /
update flare piping design.
Facilitated the Contractor to effectively conclude all above by detailed reviews / checks, co-
ordination with Contractor and QP Operations department.
NGL Extraction Plant : Performance Testing : Interpretation of plant data to identify plant
bottlenecks. Using Hysys simulations decide operating changes required.
Refinery Upgrade Feasibility Study: Crude distillation unit and Naphtha stabiliser
simulations. Review details of Licensed units FCC, Hydrotreater, SRU and their integration
and overall material balance.
Acid gas removal unit (AGRU) troubleshooting: Facilitated detailed systematic review by
Petrofac to analyse and conclude on following problems associated with existing AGRU
processing feedgas to NGL cryogenic plant.
o Potential hydrocarbon carry-under from absorber column resulting in excessive
hydrocarbon release from downstream amine flash drum.

▪ Provided process engg inputs for EPIC bid based on basic engg. packages of
licensors [IFP and Technip respectively]. Carried out bid evaluation for liquid
Nitrogen unit.
o Trained on SIMCONx
Dynamic Simulator of ABB-Simcon at ABB's Houston, USA
office. Created and tested a dynamic simulation model for 3 stage centrifugal
compressor based instrument air system of ARAMCO's Hawiyah gas plant. This model
on SIMCONx
was for Operator Training Station (OTS) and involved complex controls.
o Prepared agreement of co-operation with dynamic simulation technology provider for
joint execution of projects involving such models. Participated in business
development. Evaluated Hysys dynamic simulation package by simulating naphtha
stripping section of HPCL- Vaizag.
o For a proposed 560,000 TPA PVC plant of M/s. Chemplast, co-ordinated pre-bid
process engineering activity between the process licensor and detailed engineering
contractor. Made technical comparison of offers received for package units.
o Guided the FEED team during preparation of design manuals and P&ID manual, as
well as during development of in-house computer programs for engineering
calculations.
o Thermal design of heat exchangers (crude preheat train, product coolers, condensers
reboiler) using HTFS software package. PINCH analysis of crude train.
o Simulated Crude Distillation Unit using Aspen Plus and compared results with Sulzer
design. Also simulated sour water stripping and amine absorption sections.
o Prepared ‘Departmental Activity Control Procedure’ for FEED in line with ISO 9001
and ISO 14001. Responsibilities include making the team members familiar with ISO
requirements and ensuring proper implementation of the Quality and Environmental
Management Systems throughout the group. Played major role in obtaining ISO 9001
certification.

▪ Lead Engineer for BASF’s Rs. 1500 million grassroot project of Dyes & Dispersion
manufacturing complex at Mangalore and subsequent Rs. 300 million expansion. Project
also included utilities, captive DG power, effluent treatment plant, storage and handling
of Butadiene as liquified compressed gas.

existing utilities for revamped production. Procurement for brine refrigeration.
▪ Detailed prefeasibility study for proposed Rs. 15 billion project of IOCL for manufacture
of 70 TPH of PTA (purified terephthalic acid) including steam turbine based captive
power generation plant : prepared utility summary, Specifications, Feasibility study report
▪ Carried out thermal design of shell & tube heat exchangers, thermosyphon reboilers for
revamp of NOCIL’s EO plant using HTFS software package.
