Cargo Transport Evolved From When The Cargo Industry
Background
Shipping a package/parcel to anybody around the world today seems easy and convenient; the
thought of what the carrier goes through does not cross anybody s mind. The airline industry in
cargo transport evolved from when the cargo industry began. When comparing all airliners in cargo
transport, all the basics for carrying cargo seems to be the same. First aircraft and crew safety
must be adhered to and proper weigh and balance must be accomplished. Inspection of the cargo
is critical! Proper weight, hazardous material, and dimensions must be physically checked.
Finally, all paperwork must be compiled...but, how did all this came to be? When all this started
back in 1918 and Air Mail service begun, I bet nobody checked all these precautions we do
today. Possibly loaded the aircraft with as much bags of mail in the cargo hold as the aircraft
could hold and attempt a takeoff. After having much success the U.S. post office took over all
responsibilities for the War Department, and so we begin. (Vassilopanagos, A. 2015)
History of FedEx
After the end of the war in 1944 there was an abundant supply of military pilots, ten of which came
from the 1st American Volunteer Group (AVG). They were experienced in hauling freight and
started their own company calling it National Skyway Freight, which later became known as the
Flying Tiger Line. The company utilized surplus aircraft purchased from the Navy and created a
transcontinental route across the United States.

The Seatbelt Law, By Thomas Hobbes, And Jean Jacques Rousseau
INTRODUCTION
Every day millions of people around the United States commute daily to work, and to run their
errands. In almost every state in the United States, wearing a seatbelt is required. Many people
ask why they should have to wear a seatbelt in their private vehicles, while others agree that
everybody definitely should wear their seatbelt. Should the government be able to create and
enforce this laws such as this one on the public? This paper will discuss the seatbelt law, the views
of philosophers Thomas Hobbes, and Jean Jacques Rousseau, and whether or not this law is ethical.
THOMAS HOBBES Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) was an English philosopher who is best known
for his work in political ethics. Hobbes had a pessimistic view of the human race, however his
theory has been used as a major influence on western political views. In 1651, Thomas Hobbes
wrote Leviathan, in which he states that life before government was violent, brutal, and barbaric.
Hobbes continues on to argue that civil peace and social unity are best achieved by the
establishment of a commonwealth through social contract. Leviathan consisted of four books: 1.)
Of Man, 2.) Of Commonwealth, 3.) Of a Christian Commonwealth, and 4.) Of the Kingdom of
Darkness. The first book contains the philosophical context, while the second book outlines the
rights of the citizens within the commonwealth. The third book argues against certain scriptures,
and whether or not a person can claim supernatural

Significance And Consequences Of The Lyndi Fourie...
After the horrific events that occurred during the Apartheid in South Africa, Ginn Fourie and
Letlapa Mphahlele established the Lyndi Fourie Foundation as a reconciliation technique that
would peacefully unite South Africans. The foundation was established after the murder of Lyndi
Fourie. Her death was orchestrated by Mphahlele s Azanian People s Liberation Army (APLA) as
an act of retaliation in 1993. Fourie and Mphahlele first met during a trial with the Truth and
Reconciliation Council (TRC) where the former was granted political amnesty. After the
consultation, they developed intentions to promote healing and reconciliation within South Africa
through the creation of a foundation. The Lyndi Fourie Foundation aimed to help conflicting parties

In regards to its effectiveness as a reconciliation technique, the foundation s head facilitator Liz
Calvert stated that each participant worked successfully on forgiving their families, the community,
alcoholism, and creating a vision for the future, (Beyond Forgiving). Calvert s statement
demonstrates that the foundation is effective as it ensures that participants are collectively focused
on forgiving each other, themselves and improving for the future. Furthermore, one participant was
quoted as saying it was time he forgave his dark side. He has a dark side and it s time for him to let
it go, (Beyond Forgiving). Therefore, not only from the perspective of the facilitator, but from the
participant s perspective, reconciling through this means is effective. In addition to promoting
forgiveness, the focus on the development of the future indicates that South Africans are
cooperating. This is compelling evidence to show unification amongst South Africans. Despite the
supporting evidence, it is important to address the economic setbacks. Without any external
financial support, the Lyndie Fourie Foundation isn t able to have a wide spread influence within the

Leonardo Da Vinci Last Supper Essay
Leonardo Da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in village called Anchiano. He was born out of
wedlock to respected Florentine notary Ser Piero and a young peasant woman named Caterina, He
was raised by his father and his stepmothers. Leonardo had no formal education beyond basic
reading, writing and math. At the age of 14 Leonardo began an apprenticeship with an artist called
Andrea del Verrocchio in Florence. While he was there he learned a wide breadth of technical
skills including metalworking, leather arts, carpentry, drawing, painting and sculpting. When he
was 20 years old he qualified for membership as a master artist in Florence s Guild of Saint Luke
and established his first workshop. However, he continued to collaborate with his teacher for an
additional five years after that.

Respiratory Tract Infections ( Rtis )
Respiratory Tract Infections (RTIs)
The upper respiratory tract consists of the nose, nasal passages, paranasal sinuses, pharynx and part
of the larynx above the vocal cord (Porth, 2011). Common cold (self limiting but can lead to
secondary bacterial infections), sinusitis, otitis media, croup, epiglottis, influenza and scarlet fever
are the most common complication of URI (VanMeter Hubert, 2014). On the other hand, lower
respiratory tract consists of the trachea and the lungs (bronchi, bronchioles, and alveoli (Porth,
2011). Lower respiratory tract infection includes bronchiolitis (RSVP), pneumonia, severe acute
respiratory syndrome (SARS), tuberculosis, histoplasmosis and anthrax (VanMeter Hubert, 2014).

Practitioners are inclined to prescribe antibiotic when patients clearly requested it (Llor et al., 2014).
Antibiotics are usually prescribed for non specific upper respiratory tract infection to avoid small
risks for getting worst and becoming bacterial infection. Patients with acute respiratory infection
with antibiotic treatment were not at increased risk for severe adverse effect and had a small
decreased risk of hospitalization due to pneumonia (Meropol, Localio, Metlay, 2013). Similarly,
presence of risk factors such as age 65, COPD, diabetes, heart failure, atherosclerotic heart disease,
asthma, smoking, etc. had similar prescription rate of 62% to those patients without risk factors
(Grover, Mookadam, Rutkowski, Cullan, Hill, Patchett Noble, 2012).
Pathophysiology of Common Cold
The common cold is a self limiting upper respiratory tract infection with sign and symptoms of
nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat, sneezing, and cough. It is a viral disease that does not
respond to antibiotic (Zoorob, Sidani, Fremont Kihlberg, 2012). The common culprits that cause the
infections are rhinovirus, adenovirus, parainfluenza virus or coronavirus. This virus is usually
spread through droplets via inhalation, aerosol, and secretion on hand or direct contact with
contaminated object. This infection is highly contagious since it produces a large number of
infected nasal mucosa during the first few days and can live for many days outside of a body

Tyco Case Study
Critique the Moral Aspects of Leadership
Introduction
This paper is about the lack of moral and ethical leadership of Tyco International s former highest
paid chief executive officer (CEO) Dennis Kozlowski (Kaplan, 2009). Tyco International is a
business leader in Global Fire Safety and Security Solutions. Tyco s United States headquarters is in
Princeton, New Jersey and the Corporate Headquarters in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. According to
Kaplan (2009), Dennis Kozlowski reigned over a decade as an ambitious CEO who had earned the
nickname Deal a Day Dennis based on his notorious business decisions including aggressive and
speedy acquisitions. Kozlowski was a leader determined to make Tyco the greatest company and
succeeded well in transforming it from a $1.5 billion manufacturer into an industrial corporation
worth more than $100 billion (Kaplan, 2009).
Ethical issues
In June 2002, Kozlowski was accused by the Manhattan district attorney Robert Morgenthau, of
evading $1 million in sales tax on the purchase of rare artwork (Timeline of the Tyco International
scandal, 2005). This investigation opened a can of worms indicting Kozlowski and Tyco s
former chief financial officer (CFO) Mark H. Swartz of looting millions of dollars from the
company, misconstruing financial records and doctoring business records (Brickey, 2008). In
September 2002, Kozlowski and Swartz were accused of stealing more than $170 million dollars
from Tyco and swindling $430 million in the sale

Disadvantages Of Code Switching
As the globalization of world economies, cultures, and peoples continue to increase, it is inevitable
that languages also follow. In the present day, it is nearly safe to say that there are no nations in the
world that are homogeneously monolingual. With the knowledge of two or more language varieties,
comes the ability for bilinguals or multilinguals to move between two or more varieties within a
single interaction. This phenomenon is known as code switching (CS). It should be noted that CS
is different from style shifting and other language contact phenomena because the varieties being
used are distinct it s one variety or the other at one time. Such shifts may occur at any level of
linguistic structure, whether it be within a single paragraph, sentence, clause, or word. The places
where CS occurs can be categorized into four subtypes: intrasentential switching (within a sentence),
intersentential switching (between sentences), tag switching (tag phrases in a different code from
the rest of the sentence), and intra word switching (within a word). Each category has drawn
significant attention from the sociolinguistic community, but the reasons for the occurrence of CS
within the confines of a sentence (intrasentential) has attracted the most academic interest. It is not
at anytime that varieties can be combined intra sententially. There are a number of compatibility
problems that could emerge such as different word orders, grammatical structures, categorization
patterns,

Capital Structure theories
Capital Structure Theories
Capital Structure
Capital Structure is the proportion of debt, preference and equity capitals in the total financing of
the firm s assets. The main objective of financial management is to maximize the value of the equity
shares of the firm. Given this objective, the firm has to choose that financing mix/capital structure
that results in maximizing the wealth of the equity shareholders. Such a capital structure is called
as the optimum capital structure. At the optimum capital structure, the weighted average cost of
capital would be the minimum. The capital structure decision influences the value of the firm
through its cost of capital and can affect the share of the earnings that pertain to the equity ... Show

This approach also says that the overall cost of capital is independent of the degree of leverage.
Features of NOI approach:
1. At all degrees of leverage (debt), the overall capitalization rate would remain constant. For a
given level of Earnings before Interest and Taxes (EBIT), the value of a firm would be equal to
EBIT/overall capitalization rate.
2. The value of equity of a firm can be determined by subtracting the value of debt from the total
value of the firm. This can be denoted as follows:
Value of Equity = Total value of the firm Value of debt
3. Cost of equity increases with every increase in debt and the weighted average cost of capital
(WACC) remains constant. When the debt content in the capital structure increases, it increases the
risk of the firm as well as its shareholders. To compensate for the higher risk involved in investing in
highly levered company, equity holders naturally expect higher returns which in turn increases the
cost of equity capital.
Example:
Let us assume that a firm has an EBIT level of $50,000, cost of debt 10%, the total value of debt
$200,000 and the WACC is 12.5%. Let us find out the total value of the firm and the cost of equity
capital (the equity capitalization rate).
Solution:
EBIT

Descriptive Essay On Hyde Park
When it comes to Hyde Park I m reminded of all of those old Hollywood movies. I m pretty sure
that a werewolf or two once ran through Hyde Park and it was definitely mentioned in some
Sherlock Holmes movies. I also believe that Hyde Park is one of the most popular parks in London,
England. It is a part of the Royal Parks of London. Hyde Parkis one of the greatest city parks in the
world and has over 4,000 trees as well as a large lake, a meadow and there are wonderful
ornamental flower gardens. It has something for everyone to enjoy. In the park people can swim,
go boating, cycling and skating. There are places for playing team games, tennis courts, horse
riding paths and a children s playground.

At that time it was mostly used for hunting. Finally in 1637 King Charles I had the park opened to
the public.
Among Hyde Park s special features are:
The large artificial lake which is known as the Serpentine, located at the south end of the park. This
lake extends onward toward the north and goes into Kensington Gardens where its name changes to
Long Water. The lake is very popular for swimming and boating.
To the southwest is the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain which looks more like an
artificial stream. It is a circular fountain which is made up of 545 pieces of Cornish granite. Water
from it flows on two sides at the top and winds up in a small pool at the bottom.
Odd as it may sound there is Rotten Row. No nothing to do with anything rotten. It is located at
the south end of Hyde Park and is a famous bridle path. Rotten Row is about 4 miles long and is
used for horse riding and also for jogging. William III used this road quite often in the 17th
century. Since the king thought that the walk from Kensington Palace to St. James s Palace was
most dangerous he had the very first lit public road created by having oil lamps installed along it.
Why Rotten Row? Because it s derived from the French route du roi or King s

The Negative Effects Of Bullying s Effects, And Its Effects
Although both secondary and primary sources describe the impact that bullying has on the victim
as being negative, there are still differences between them. Natalie, the fifteen year old victim,
says, Soon I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I lost all self esteem and became paranoid
about people (Sawer). Depression, anxiety, and the other effects Natalie experienced from bullying
are all harmful. She also said she considered suicide and would perform self harm by doing things
like tearing out her hair. The personal side of what bullying can cause a person to do/feel are
revealed through what Natalie described. Although not as severe as Natalie, the other bullying
victim, Eric, also had a damaging experience with bullying while it was occurring. Eric says, I
think it s fair to say that bullying never affects the victim positively at a young age. It made me
very shy and scared. I always felt like I had to be on guard (Goldman). The bullying had a
negative impact on Eric s life while it was occurring. He felt shy and scared which could be
averse to his mental and physical health. The perpetrators made both the victims feel desolate.
Feeling grim led to short term mental and physical issues such as being fearful and suicidal. The
problems that Natalie and Eric faced shows the damaging impact that bullying had on the victim.
The personal experience that is discussed is what makes the difference between the primary and the
secondary source.

Notes On The Value Of Diversification
The value of diversification Introduction Every finance students have learnt diversification is to
reduce total risk by investing a basket of assets in portfolios. But what contributes to the success
of portfolio diversification? A large number of assets? A variety types of asset allocation?
Adding international investment? Numerous of risk factors? They are all indicators of a well
diversified portfolio. In this case, we will discuss about the advantages and disadvantages of
diversification in portfolio management with related indicators. On one hand, some mention
dynamic and numerous assets allocation in the portfolio will reduce both risks. While some also
state the benefit of introduce multi factor portfolio pricing models. On the other hand, arguments
arise demonstrating adding international investment may disappoint investors because foreign
market could be correlated and moved together. Another disadvantage could be the correlated
assets collected weaken the effect of diversification. At the end, a balanced conclusion will be
drawn to support the useful diversification. Dynamic and numerous asset allocation benefits
Since there are two types of risk we need to account for: systematic risk and idiosyncratic risk, the
easiest one to be diversified away is the idiosyncratic risk. It is known that an optimal portfolio
could gain on diversification by investing a large basket of stocks. This is a good way to offset firm
specific risk. According to Bodie, Kane and Marcus

Eugenics And The Eugenics Movement
Introduction Human beings have always been interested in success, in making sure they survive,
and creating new tools and technology to enable them to reach these goals. So it should come as no
surprise that eugenics follows this same guideline in human history. A term originally coined by
Francis Galton, first cousin to Charles Darwin, eugenicssimply means that the best people in society
with the most healthy normal genes should continue to reproduce and pass on their goodness to the
next generation, while the individuals with the unhealthy genes should be discouraged from having
any children (Allen 2001:59). With movements beginning in the early 20th century, eugenicists and
proponents of the eugenics movement, have taken particular interests in the heritability of social
behaviors, implementing enforcement mechanisms such as military force, law, and forced medical
procedures in order to maintain the well being of societies future generations. Although society
today frowns upon many instances of eugenics in our history, it is still being practiced in the 21st
century. Contemporary eugenics has become much more technologically advanced and individually
focused through the means of prenatal diagnosis and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. Although
these two approaches (past and present) to the eugenics movement are conducted in different ways,
the motivations behind them are theoretically similar. In this paper, I will be summarizing the
history of different

Pros And Cons Of Ranching
This documentary is on the pros and cons that ranching has on the environment and well being of
people. Ranching means an establishment maintained for raising livestock under range conditions.
Most ranchers commonly raise grazing animals such as cattle and sheep, most of the cattle are
raised for their meat, not for dairy products. One of the pros that come from ranching is the
diversity of plants and animals that is far greater on grazed managed grassland than on unmanaged
grassland. Another benefit that ranching creates is that grazing improves the habitat for the Bay
Checkerspot Butterfly, a threatened Californian insect. An interesting benefit that cattle creates is
the rangelandthat provides habitat for insects that are valuable for pollination, pollination is very
important to help plants grow and those plants feed animals that we eat benefiting humans. The
next advantage that ranching creates is preventing potential wildfires from expanding, since the
cattle eats the weeds and dry grass they eliminate potential fuel for the fire. The final example that

How Did King David Have Bladed Weapons
Did you know that swords were a major weapon of war during the ancient and medieval history?
They are also called the gentleman of all weapons. They were bladed weapons that have two
parts namely the blade and the handle or the hilt. Blades were made of a hard metal, steel, or
bronze. They were sharpened blades that could be single edged or double edged.
The width varied with the culture and era and so did the type of hilt. They could be one handed or
double as per the weight and maneuver of the sword. The hilt could be wood, leather, ivory or bone.
The warriors and the knights relied on swords a lot. They were brisk, agile, graceful and flexible.
Some were very elaborately decorated.
What type of sword did King David use to cut off Goliath s head? No one knows, however, the
bible says King David ran and took Goliath s sword and cut off his head . King David did not have
a sword in his hand; therefore God had to provide a sword for David because David had spoken the
words. What was already done in the spiritual ream is now being done in the natural ream.

The Concept Of Leadership And Leadership
Thought Item 2 (Option 1)
In today s society the concept of leadership provides a structure for decisions to be made within
teams, organizations, and businesses. The notion that only leaders should be credited for the
success or failure carried out by their teams has been instilled in our minds since we first
understood the concept of hierarchies. The fact that most business schools even posses a required
leadership course proves the significance of this concept within today s society. While it is
astounding how essential the idea of leadership has become, it is important for us to begin looking
at leadership under a new light: leadership does not exist without followers because the followers
themselves are the true leaders. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The amount of work that the head of a team puts into a project is quite small compared to the total
amount of work applied by everyone associated with the completion of the task. When defining
the significance of roles within organizations, it is important to factor in the composition of the
culture as a whole. Many people credit the creation of an organization s culture to the head of
the organization. While this single leader may define how they envision the culture to be, the
members as a whole truly develop the culture. This insight allows us to shift our focus from the
leader to the followers. As a society, by accepting the fact that followers are our true leaders, we
are bound to endure many positive and negative consequences resulting from the
implementation. Followers will likely feel more empowered to make more decisions because
they will be receiving more recognition for their work. This increase in empowerment will
cause followers to be more productive within their roles, which will lead to a harder working
society as a whole as more and more organizational structures follow suit. Another positive aspect
of following this new approach is that we will steer away from the great amount of negative
consequences created by single leaders due to the current composition of leadership. For
businesses, less money will be allocated towards executives because they will no longer make as
much money solely off of their title within

The Social Context Of The Goddess Athena And The Athenians
Three key features of the Parthenon that reflected the social context of the goddess Athena and the
Athenians are the Pediments, the Internal Frieze and the Athena Parthenos. The Parthenon,
meaning of the virgin referring to the goddess Athena, was built in 447 BC and opened to the
public in 432 BC. It is located in the south side of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece and was built to
house the cult statue of Athena.
There are two pediments on the Parthenon; one on the East side over the Naos (interior room), the
other on the West side over the Opisthodomos (back porch). The East pediment shows the birth of
Athena. Zeus had eaten Metis, who was pregnant with Athena at the time. She gave birth in Zeus
stomach and Athena climbed into his head. It hurt so much that Zeus ordered Hephaestus to cut
open his head with an axe. Athena then leaped from the wound in full battle armour. On this
pediment, Zeus and Athena are portrayed as being the same size, which is unusual as men were
seen as superior to women so were portrayed as larger. This is significant because it shows how
highly the Athenians thought of their patron goddess; enough to be the equal of the king of the
gods. The Athenians chose this myth to be shown on the pediment because it represents how highly
Athena is thought of and it is also the story of her birth, which without there would be no Athens.
This reflects the social context of the Parthenon because...

by the SANS Institute (2002), it is highly suggested that an outside company be contracted to
perform the test so more accurate results can be attained. Not being affiliated with the company, the
hired team can imitate a more realistic approach an individual might take to gain access or

automated and manual tests. In an online article written by Fergal Glynn, he explains that
penetration testing tools are used as part of a pentest to automate certain tasks, improve testing
efficiency, and discover issues that might be difficult to find using manual techniques. There are
two common penetration testing tools: static analysis tools and dynamic analysis tools. Static
programs analyzes software without actually executing programs, such as performing analysis on
the source or object code. Dynamic programs analyze software by executing programs, such as

The Timeless Truths of Homer s Iliad

Homer s Timeless Truths
Is Homer s The Iliad relevant to today s society? Is this work a timeless parable depicting universal
human truths transcending time and context or merely a superbly crafted epic poem to be studied
and admired for its stylistic brilliance? Has the text endured simply because of Homer s dramatic
verse or because of the timeless human truths it conveys? Was it written to persuade readers to
question the moral implications and savagery of war or simply to provide provocative
entertainment? These questions have been posed for centuries yet rarely have been sufficiently
answered. However, an astute student of contemporary politics, media, and entertainment ... Show

The arrogant, manipulative gods pulling strings from their plush thrones on Mount Olympus bring
to mind modern day politicians. They can be seen as archetypes of today s detached bureaucrats.
Zeus and his fellow gods dispassionately toy with mortals, watching with amusement as they cut
one another down on the blood soaked battlefield of windy Troy. Shamelessly, like merciless
puppeteers, they create tension between the mortals for their own personal entertainment, with little
regard for the inevitable mayhem and carnage that ensues. Indeed, the ten year conflict at Troy is
indirectly sparked by the vain goddess Aphrodite s desire to be recognized as the fairest beauty
among the goddesses, yet as soon as the fighting begins, she pleads neutrality. Similarly, Zeus
himself shows little concern for the rampant slaughter among mortals taking place on his watch,
even though initially he aids Achilles in his revenge against the Greeks. More than a few critics of
the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have decried the dispassionate way in which U.S.
chickenhawk non combatants such as George Bush, Dick Cheney, and now Barack Obama have
heartlessly made strategic military decisions from the safe environs of the White House that have
had mortal consequences for U.S. troops on the front lines in Kabul and Baghdad. For many

Reaction Paper On Anger
Anger is a common reaction that can aid individuals in relieving stress, and expressing emotions.
Experiencing anger is normal, and at times, the appropriate response. When accomplished
appropriately, anger can be an important tool used by a healthy adult. But anger has risks, perhaps
more than any other emotion, it can isolate people from other adults and lead individuals to engage
in behavior they may later regret. Angercan be manifested through a variety of ways, including
physical violence, verbal profanity and internal frustrations. Anger can be the result of sadness,
fear, or an overall inability to effectively cope with the struggles of everyday life. Writer had the
experience of interacting with a client, TR, who was in the middle of an anger outburst, due to
behavior of a staff member.
Writer had met with TR a few times prior to this incident, a rapport had been built and TR felt
comfortable enough to approach writer. When approached by TR, writer used facilitative skills to
notice body language. TR s teeth were clenched, his hands were clenched in a fist and his tone was
loud and sharp. TR was upset with how a staff member treated another client. Taking knowledge of
defense mechanisms into account writer was able to surmise that this anger was an example of
displacement from one staff member to another. In Freudian psychology, displacement is the
redirection of an impulse, usually aggression, onto a powerless substitute target. The target can be a
person or an

The Pros And Cons Of Higher Education
Higher education is an optional terminal stage of formal learning, usually offered after
completion of secondary education. Records show that there has been an increase in college
admission of up to 15 %, since the mid 90 s (Brennan, 2004). Better jobs, huge salaries, excellent
perspective, good status and better lifestyle, are all promised to people considering to join
colleges. However, there is a debate if they made the best decision to join and graduating from the
college. The life that you would lead after college is a matter based on the program of study and
the occupation you choose (Philip and Uros, 2013). The cost of pursuing higher educationis also a
matter of contention which limits the level of study one can reach with some opting to drop out
due to constraints in finances and others having to deal with loan debts of an average $33,000. The
question everyone is asking now is college education worth it?
Is it worth it? The demand for higher education is ever increasing as competition in the job market
also increases. The rate of employment of college educated is twice that of the national average
compared to high school graduates. Employee counterparts who have college degrees receive
better pays than their counterparts with no degree. They are also known to retain their works for
longer and have a better perspective of the revolving issues.
In the United States, 20.2 million students were enrolled in a college. A lot of pressure is put on

Causes Of The Battle Of Crete
The Battle of Crete Intro The Battle Of Crete was a meaningful battle during World War 2,
although it ended up in a failure for the allied powers there was a lot of context behind it. The
conflict all started with Italy s narrow minded dictator Benito Mussolini who wanted a new
Rome, they thought taking Greece would be a piece of cake but they ended up retreating and
relying on help from their ally, the Germans. The Germans ended up making their way through
Greece quite easily due to the Greeks having no chance against their war machine. The only thing
left for the Axis to take was now Crete, one of the biggest islands in the mediterranean sea. The
Crete campaign although a failure, it began as an inspired idea with the highest of hopes. What
were the causes of The Battle of Crete? The axis aggression was immense, and Italy s hate for the
Greeks made an inevitable conflict. Italy s imperial ambitions in Europe in 1936 incorporated the
capturing of Greece. Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini went through with his plan and presented an
ultimatum to Ioannis Metaxis (prime minister of Greece at the time) telling them to surrender
Greece, Metaxis rejected but even before the ultimatum had expired Italy had invaded Greece
through Albania. Combat began with the Greek and Italian armies, and after weeks of inconclusive
battle the Italians retreated from albania and called on the Germans to help, as soon as the British
heard about the Germans fighting against Greece they joined

Many Symbols in the Scarlett Letter
Roger Ebert said, If you have to ask what it symbolizes, it didn t. There are many symbols in The
Scarlet Letter. The most known one was the letter itself. The meaning of the letter appears clear at
first but as the book progresses you see the letter s meaning shift with Hester s character. The
magistrates intended the letter to represent the sin of adultery. And while of course, people did shun
her at the very beginning, the shaming technique could not weather the test of time. The A soon
began to lose its shameful meaning and instead become a symbolic example of Hester s courage
and show that public shaming cannot compete with one s own means of self torture. To begin, the
scarlet letterhad lost its meaning over the course of time. Then, also, the blameless purity of her
life during all these years in which she had been set apart to infamy was reckoned largely in her
favor. (Chapter XIII) The author s purpose is to call attention to the Puritan s weak shaming
system. For example, if the person being subjected to the humiliation does not draw attention to
them self, the villagers will lose interest in the crime; this allows the villagers a healing time. In
Hester s case the people were able to see her in a new light. Such helpfulness was found in her so
much power to do and power to sympathize that many people refused to interpret the scarlet A by
its original signification. They said that it meant Able ; so strong was Hester Prynne, with a woman s

A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller A View from the Bridge is a 1950 s play written by

explaining the difference in culture between America and Italy and how this could have affected
the outcome of the play. The play A View from the Bridge was written by Arthur Miller and is set

The Importance Of Phonological Awareness Development On...
The Importance of Phonological Awareness Development in Preschool Children
John Kimball
University of Mississippi
Introduction
Phonemes, which are the individual units of sound, such as /b/, /p/ or /m/, are considered to be the
building blocks of language development. The individual phonemes are the first sounds we utter as
infants. The babblings of infants comprise of all the phonemes contained in their language. As an
infant develops into a toddler, the phonemes come together to form the first words, and eventually
these words group together to form sentences. The developments from infancy to the time that these
children begin preschool or become preschool age are the beginnings of speech communication.
A child must learn the rules of phonology before they can begin to learn to read. Phonology is the
study of the unconscious rules governing speech sound production (Adams, Foorman, Lundberg,
and Beeler, 1998). This is one of the first topics that teachers begin instructing upon in preschool.
Children begin to learn the alphabet and start to associate the sounds with their corresponding letter.
This instruction from teacher begins the development of each individual child s phonological
awareness. Phonological awareness has been shown to be one of the most reliable predictors and
associates of reading ability (Mann, Foy, 2003).
Children quickly develop an awareness of phonemes and can learn to attend to and manipulate these
speech sounds in a

Taryn Simon Research Paper
Taryn Simon is a photographer who was shot down by Walt Disney because he believes that
photography shuts down the fantasy that guests are expected to uphold while visiting his theme

reality. I suppose somehow a real image takes away the instinct mentally to create one s own. I
feel that for business he has a point because Disneyland is supposed to mesmerize a person and
take them on a journey that can not be taken anywhere else. If that image were to change to the
public, it would not be as popular or profitable. On the other hand, I do think photography can
have that same effect on one s mind. Taryn states that she chose to look inward because she

Psychological Disorder In Hamlet
Having a psychological disorder fundamentally changes a person s personality. It makes people
unrecognizable to their friends and family while causing them to act in ways a normal person
would never consider. One piece of literature that explores a person s display of a psychological
disorder is William Shakespeare s Hamlet. In the play, Hamlet, the main character, was so
obsessed with seeking revenge for his dead father that he killed innocents and destroyed an entire
royal family. Hamlet s behavior in the play often matches the many symptoms of a psychological
disorder described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition

In your experience, what is the TOP #1 cause for Project failure?
From experience, the following are the TOP10 causes of Project failure that Mathew can think of
(they are not in any kind of order):
#1. Lacking Sponsor s Involvement/Ownership
#2. Halo Effect (Wrong Man for the Job)
#3. Poor HR Management
#4. Poor/Inadequate Project Communications
#5. Ignoring Project Stakeholders
#6. Absence of Risk Management

For me this question shows the real reason for faillure. Most projects focus on producing a
rocket (only focus on delivery). Successful projects however look further: why do we create a
rocket? Because we want to go to the moon. If NASA would have only focussed on delivering
rockets, they would never have reached the moon and probably had produced a great number of
disasters while delivering or using those rockets. A Business Case focus, rather than only a delivery
focus!
(By the way off topic: this delivery approach for me also caused the current financial crisis. Only
focussing on the deal, not on the long term effects.)
All reasons summed up in the question above are in my view symptoms and results of the delivery
only approach rather than reasons.

I would say #7. Scope Creep/Unrealistic Expectations. All the others reasons are certainly strong
source for failure but somehow most of them point to have a bad road map document.
This is why a Project Manager is so useful in any organization to make sure that we get the right

realistic project expectations.

Deer Persuasive Essay
What if I told you there was a way to save so many lives by just keeping one animal off of the
roads? There is a serious problem that a lot of people are facing especially late at night. There
have been as horrible incidents as to where people have lost their lives. Or in less serious but still
devastating incidents peoples cars become completely totaled. You never know you might just be
on a late night drive heading down main street to pick your kid up from soccer practice when all of

just talking about damage to the car too. Hitting a deer can also put your life at risk and can cause

headlights was completely broken and the alignment of the car was completely off because the

the car the total bill was thousands of dollars. Overall something needs to be done to keep deer off
of public roads (Potter).
Solution
Given these points, something has to be done to keep deer off of public roads. There are many
different ideas and solutions that have been brought up to prevent this serious issue. But nothing
has actually ever been done publicly at least where I live to keep deer off of public roads. We are
facing a serious issue everyday. Our public roads have become crossing ground for deer. We should
put out large salt blocks around the the bases of all mountains surrounding the city and public roads.
The salt blocks would be very large so they would last a very long time. They would be placed
every 5 miles around the bases of all mountains surrounding the city and public roads. This would
go into effect immediately by putting the salt blocks out right now before more deer start to come
down the mountain. The city will pay for these salt blocks and instruct city workers where to
strategically place them so that they cannot be passed by deer coming down the mountain. The
deer will then stop and lick the salt blocks instead of coming down and crossing public

How Samoan Students Cultural Practices Inhibit Their...
How Samoan students cultural practices inhibit their involvement/participation in mathematical
problem solving 1. Background/setting the stage There are seven ages of Man said William
Shakespeare and it is not difficult to say that Man faces seventy problems in each of these ages.
However, just as it is natural to develop immunity against viruses, Man also learns and develops
several skills while facing these difficulties one of the classes of skills being analytical, logical,
and decision making and in more general, problem solving. The importance of problem solving
can t be emphasized enough as be it small or big, be it personal or professional, we face problems
day in day out and we wish to fix them. One powerful way of enabling Man to learn these skills is
through Mathematics. Several academicians would like to put it as Mathematical processes
acknowledging that if Mathematics refers to armory of concepts, the real deal is the process of
using relevant tools out of the kit to solve problems. Literature on problem solving in mathematics
also has discussed exclusively the need to teach students to reason mathematically 2. State your
aim: Also how culture leaves a deep impact on students learning abilities especially mathematical
problem solving is the main discussion of this paper. In structuring this essay, firstly I would like to
emphasize on how Samoan cultural expectation has its impact on learning of mathematical
processes like problem solving.

only be traveled by foot or horseback, despite that drawback thousand of settlers descended up the
trail to the new discovered land.
Upon arrival in Kentucky, Daniel Boone and his men began the construction of temporary log
huts, Fort Boone, in which he would capture settlement from the Indians. Boone s settlement
received tension from the local Shawnee and Cherokee tribes, for the tribes were flustered with
Boone and his people captivating their territory. In the summer of 1776 the Indian tribes
kidnapped Boone s second daughter, Jemima, as well as two other teenage girls fortunately
Boone and a group of settlers were able to rescue his daughter and two girls just two days after
being captured because Boone knew the ways of the Indians as well as wilderness skills. Boone
and his men surrounded the Indians while they stopped for food and rescued the girls and drove
off the kidnappers. The rescuing of Boone s daughter is one of his most noted events in his life,
James Fenimore Cooper fictionalized this event in his novel,

Eyewitness Testimony Should Be Used In Court
Introduction
As time goes on, eyewitness testimony has become more and more of a disputed topic due to
many different factors. The first study I was exposed to was in an introductory psychology class
which sparked my interest into the topic. For this reason, I chose to look at different demographics
such as, gender and major, and see if those factors had any impact on the perception of eyewitness
testimony. My main issues remained the same throughout this research project. Research studies in
relation to eyewitness testimony have been going on for hundreds of years. A study done in 1999
by Marcus D. Durham and Francis C. Dane at Mercer University, looked at ways to assess
prospective jurors knowledge of the factors that may influence eyewitness behavior. Those factors
include topics such as race, memory processes, age, and stress. In addition, the researchers
compared students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The independent variable, gender, is shown in the columns and the dependent variable, eyewitness
testimony should be used in court, is displayed in the rows. No respondents reported to Strongly
Disagree with the statement, which is why it is not included in the date table. 75% of males (3)
reported that they strongly agree that eyewitness testimony should be used in court, while 25% (1)
reported that they somewhat disagree. This shows that the majority of male respondents agreed
with the statement. On the other hand, 50% of women (3) reported to somewhat agree that
eyewitness testimony should be used in court, while the other 50% of women (3) reported that they
somewhat disagree. This displays an even divide between the attitudes towards using eyewitness
testimony in court. In looking at the totality of the responses, six respondents agreed with the
statement to some extent and four respondents disagreed with the statement to some

Taking a Look at Virtual Currencies
Virtual currencies such as bitcoin are portrayed as an innovative design in the distribution of money
throughout the world through the use of peer to peer transactions due to it being fraudulent and
impossible to counterfeit. However, bitcoin holders are anonymous and could act in a similar way
to black markets, their bitwallet is unregulated and untaxed. Using bitcoin as a currency also delves
into the problem where users purchase illegal objects and substances anonymously.
Bitcoin is essentially an electronic cash currency and is perceived as a great success since its
launch in 2009. Most e cash schemes require a centralized bank, which acts as a safeguard for
potential scams or for double spending detection. (Simon Barber et al. 2012 p 401), In contrast,
the bitcoin protocol allows individuals to freely send bitcoins without any third party interference.
The fee for sending bitcoins is very little in comparison to other online payment methods such as
PayPal thus bitcoin is considered to be cost efficient. (Grinberg, R. 2012 p 160). Bitcoin is
considered ethical because it is unique to the characteristics of credit cards. Banks have attempted
to remove the issue of fraud and find mechanisms to stop hackers and phishers from obtaining
personal data. This is because traditional transactions require the transmission confidential data,
making data vulnerable to interception by hackers (Simon Barber et al. 2012 p 402). In regards to
bitcoin, only a bundle of characters

The Best Hotel Rates Or Car Rental Deals
The first thing many people will do before deciding to go on a vacation is check for cheap hotels.
Cheap hotels are the major driving factor that will decide whether or not someone actually goes
through with the booking. Of course, we are not talking about the elite 1 percent who don t care
about finding the best hotelrates or car rental deals. In fact, for members of the upper class, cheap
hotels are the farthest thing down their list of priorities when booking their annual vacations. In
this case, we are talking about the middle class people who have to count the money in their bank
accounts before making a decision like that.
Speaking from experience, I tend to always start my vacation planning with a search titled Cheap
Hotels . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m sick and tired of it because the truth is, I could probably never afford these so called best
hotel rates unless I win the lottery. Fat chance! Some cheap hotels like to bundle my car rental
with my hotel booking so that I can benefit from better bundled rates . That couldn t be farther
from the truth. Once, while booking my hotel in Paris, I decided to bundle cheap hotel and car
rental rates. I then compared the DEAL BREAKER! with the rates for booking individually.
Guess what? My cheap hotel ended up costing me approximately 78 dollars less and my car
rental an astonishing 140 dollars less. From my experience, bundling these things to get the best
hotel rates and car rental rates are utterly useless and you end up paying more than you should
have. In my case, I would have shelled out an extra 218 dollars if I wasn t careful. That s insane!
I guess I should stop complaining and get to the point of it. How does one go on a vacation
while on a budget? In my opinion, anyone can. All you need to do is find a cheap hotel and a
good car rental deal. When I say on a budget, I don t mean 50 bucks. For me, anyway, hotels seem
to account for the largest portion of my travel expense. I always try to find cheap hotels, but how
cheap can cheap get when you re travelling to Paris? A few days stay in a cheap hotel can easily set
me back 500 dollars, if not more. I still haven t mentioned the car rental either. I like a nice hotel

Ben Carson Essay
The constitution is being trampled on by its own constitutes and the foundation of this nation is
crumbling. Ben Carson is an African American world renowned neurosurgeon that was born in
Detroit Michigan and was raised by a single mother with limited education. Growing up in poverty

prestigious awards such as the Spingarn Medalfrom the NAACP, presented in 2006. And The Fords

a sponsor for over twenty underprivileged literacy programs such as The Reading Room and The
Ben Carson Youth Educational Fund just to name a few his awareness that the children are our
future is commendable. We need a President with the compassion, empathy and understanding for
the American people. I reiterate that Carson is an excellent candidate for 2016 presidential race.
One could argue that these same attributes that make him the best candidates could also make
him the worst. Here are a few examples: Carson is a humanitarian, who could never turn away
thousands of refugees escaping social and economic injustice. So in the event that our country is
in need of a ferocious leader, would soft spoken, extremely apologetic Carson be able to push the
button? As quoted in a CNN interview with Anderson Cooper I am not the man you would

Politics Is A Rare Sight, The Best Man, By Gore Vidal
Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do.
stated by Potter Stewart. Ethics in politics are a rare sight, The Best Man by Gore Vidal brings
this issue up. Although the script was written in the 1960 s when the election was between Nixon
and Kennedy it still relates to current elections between Trump and Clinton. Today s politicians are
no better than the ones from the past. However, Gore Vidalgives his character William Russell a set
of morals. He also give other characters, no set of morals. The script relates to ample situations
happening in the 2016 presidential election. Such as scheming against one another or personalities
that are similar. The script also has some differences with today s politics. Including, the role of
females and William Russell s kindness. First off, There are many similarities with the characters in
the play and today s politicians. In the same way that The Best Man depicts Cantwell and Russell,
one can easily notice the rivalry between Trump and Clinton. For instance, Cantwell stole Russell s
health records and intended on blackmailing him with it. In a similar manner Trump continues to
bring up Hillary s health such as She took a short circuit to the brain. ... Honestly, I don t think she s

Post. However, Russell at one point counterattacks with a threat that frightens Cantwell, but

They also participated in the kidnappings and assassinations of state leaders or political
dissenters. These people were either sent to the gulags or the state run psychiatric hospitals. The
KGB is set up as a mix of legal and illegal residencies in their target countries. Legal residencies
operated in the local embassy and under the protection of diplomatic immunity. Illegal
residencies operated without detection but didn t have immunity. The KGB recruited new
recruits through blackmail and bribes for the illegal residencies. The legal residencies were
organized into four categories: political, economic, military strategic intelligence and
disinformation, which were active measures, counterintelligence and security, scientific and
technological intelligence. Illegal residencies were generally left to gather information and feed
it to a specific person without a chain of command. During the Cold War the KGB also looked to
produce anti western propaganda to keep their control over the masses. This campaign was
supposedly against ideological subversion by the western countries. The campaign was targeted
towards anti communist political and religious ideas and key leaders of those ideals. This was
framed as a national security issue for it was to discourage the influence of foreign powers. Key
leaders of the USSR at the time either lessened the oppression or imposed stricter measures while
they were in power.

Danger This Mission To Mars Could Bore You To Death Analysis
When people go to mars they experience one of the worst and craziest disease, chronic boredom
In the book Danger This Mission to Mars Could Bore You to Death (page 153) people and
scientists say that the benefits of mars don t outweigh the risks this is because of the risks and the
evidence they have to show how dangerous and risky it is. One thing is the chronic boredom or
depression, the time they have to be there, and the research and studies scientist and other people
have found.
The first reason is chronic boredom. Scientists on (page 155) say Bored people are also prone to
taking risks, subconsciously seeking out stimulation when their environment bores them. This is
important because if they get bored and they seek out stimulation as it says they could forget a
safety procedure and everything could go wrong. And it says on (page 154) In fact a number of
scientists say that of all things boredom is one of the biggest threats to a manned mars mission. This
means that when they are gone and on there way to mars and back they could get chronic boredom

The Upper Room Discourse ( John 13-17 )
The Upper Room Discourse (John 13 17) marked the end of Jesus three year ministry and served
to be Jesus farewell address to the beloved apostles. During Jesus final moments with the apostles,
Jesus would proceed to institute a new blood covenant (Luke 22:20; Mark 14:24) and provide final
instructions and encouragement to the apostles before facing the sorrow, rejection, betrayal, and
death for which Jesushad come into this world (Houdmann, n.d.). Thus, the final moments between
Jesus and the apostles revealed countless theological truths that were demonstrated through word,
deed, admonishment, and prophecy (Douglas Tenney, 2010).
Before revealing those truths, Jesus would have to settle a dispute (Luke 22:24) amongst the
apostles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jesus departure also created anxiety and questions amongst the apostles (Pentecost, 1981). Thus, in
the narrative of John 13:36 14:31, Jesus lovingly admonishes the apostles with the command of Let
not your heart be troubled (Wiersbe, 2007). As a consequence of this command, Jesus promised the
apostles a place in heaven along with Christ s return (John 14:3), assurance that Christ was the way
to the Father (John 14:6), and a permanent, indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16;
Acts 13:52) who would be the apostle s teacher (Luke 12:12) in Jesus absence (Gromacki, 1978).
Most profound is the fact that with Jesus ascension into heaven, the apostles would benefit in Jesus
absence (John 14:9) with greater spiritual power (Pentecost, 1981). Additionally, Jesus also revealed
the divine essence of the Godhead (John 14:9) while further defining the true essence of Christianity
, Ye in me, I in you (Gromacki, 1978).
As Jesus continued instructing the apostles in John 15:1 16:4, attention was turned to the apostle s
present condition and how the great commission could be fulfilled (Pentecost, 1981). In the
metaphor of the vine and branches (John 15:5), Christ

San Diego Beaches In Florida
San Diego is a city in California that has about 17 miles of coastline, which offers a variety of
beaches ( San Diego Beaches ). Pacific Ocean is the ocean that borders coast in California. Three
major rock formations can be found in the North County beaches in San Diego, which are Bay
Point Formation, the Torrey Sandstone, and Del Mar Formation. Bay Point Formation is about
100,000 years old, which is also the youngest rock formation, and it has a higher possibility for
erosion to occur (Metzler). The Torrey Sandstone is about 46 million years old, it has a lighter
color than Bay Point Formation, and it is hard enough to provide protection for the softer Bay Point
Formation (Metzler). Del Mar Formation is slightly older than the Torrey Sand... Show more content

The main reason for the difference is that the two places are at different sides , one in the east,
the other in the west, and because of this difference, the weather at these places can also have a
big effect on the beaches. Erosion is a process that occurs at both the beaches in San Diego and
Northeast Florida. The only difference between the two is that in San Diego, the erosion occurs
on the bluffs, while in Florida, it occurs on the dunes. Both the natural and human activities
cause erosion to occur at both places. The activities include the weather, such as the storms can
wash away the sand, which will eventually cause erosion to occur, and human building structures
near the shorelines can allow erosion to happen. Although erosion is still occurring at the
shorelines, people have tried to do some activities that can help reduce or slow the bluff and
dunes erosion at both places. In San Diego, people have built sea walls and placed riprap along
the shorelines to help prevent erosion. Sea walls are usually made up of boulders, steels, and
concrete and they are more expensive to build than the riprap (Metzler). Riprap is placed on the
sand along to the shorelines of the beach, it is usually made up of rocks, and it is less expensive
than building sea walls (Metzler). The purpose of both the sea walls and riprap is to help protect
the bluffs

Analysis Of The Article Gop Fox Circus Act By Reed...
In the article GOP Fox Circus Act , Reed Richardson argues that although both the GOP and Fox
have conservative political values, they are ultimately harmful to each other s agendas because
of their differing political goals. Both organizations are lacking popularity in recent years so
they are struggling to find new ways to gain an audience. The GOP wants to find a way to get
their ideas to a wide variety of people, whereas Fox is promoting more liberal views to increase
the ratings of their programs. On one hand, the GOP s reputation is hurt by the inaccuracy of Fox
s reporting. On the other hand, Fox is tied down by the conservative views of the GOP, thus
restraining Fox from gaining a larger audience. Journalist Reed Richardson wrote this article for
The National, a liberal newspaper, in 2013, so the events and issues that he is speaking of are still
relevant to this day. Due to the differences of political views between the author and the subject
matter, there is plenty of room for biased statements and opinions. Does Richardson provide enough
evidence of the harmful effects of the Fox and GOP relationship? Richardson clearly and
meticulously establishes the problems that both organizations face in the pursuit of their political
goals with the use of statistics, reliable sources, and thorough evaluation of events; however
Richardson constantly provides the reader with a biased argument when discussing the current state
of Fox. Richardson successfully portrays the

Conflict
Conflicts do not always have to be destructive. In fact, in many instances, conflicts are incentives
that cause us to take action to accomplish a particular goal. Getting issues out in the open and on
the table allows teams to evaluate an issue with more complete information and, in the end, to make
a better decision.
Too often teams operate as if they re in an volunteer organization. You know what I m talking
about; everyone is polite during the meeting but then after the meeting s over the cliques form to
judge what he or she said. I can t believe what a stupid idea that was.
Now why don t we stop pretending to be polite and have the conflict face to face? Weren t you

Perspectives on conflict in the workplace can be broken down into three categories: the traditional
approach, the behavioral approach, and the interactionist approach. The traditional view, popular in
the early twentieth century, holds firmly to the fact that conflict is destructive and should be
avoided at all costs. By adopting this view, organizations miss out on the many benefits of conflict
that can be brought to their team members. The behavioral approach, which emerged around the
1940 s, recognized that conflict was inevitable in the workplace. This mode of thinking accepted
conflict as natural, but modern management theory has taken this thinking one step further with the
interactionist approach.
Interactionist theories of conflict don t just accept conflict, they embrace it and the benefits it can
bring. For a successful and developing company, this is where your thinking should lie. The first
step in effectively managing conflict with this perspective is to determine and control where the
source of conflict arises. When disagreements arise about how projects should be carried out,
objectives should be fulfilled, and long term goals should be reached, conflict has the power to
spark creativity and enhance problem solving.
One of the most important elements of managing conflict and reaping its benefits now becomes
clear. Conflict can

Andromeda Constellation
The constellation of Andromeda is pretty interesting. Not only does it share it s name with the
galaxy closest to the Milky Way, it is also one of the 48 constellations listed by the Greco Roman

The Invention Of Alexander Graham Bell
Alexander Graham Bell was not an American born inventor. He was born in Edinburgh Scotland
March 3, 1947. His father was a formal speech teacher. This might account for his early interest
in speech and sound. As a boy he was so intrigued with sound he taught himself to play the piano.
When he was a teenager his mother began to lose her hearing, and this further perpetuated his
entrance and desire to explore sound. Bell was a very smart young man. At age 12 he invented a
machine to take the husks off grains of wheat. This became a very important invention at this time,
because processing wheat by hand was very time consuming. People began to notice that he was a
very innovative child. His friend s father who owned the grain mill appreciated his invention so
much that he gave him a small shop to work on his inventions. Alexander Graham Bellwas home
schooled by his mother early in his childhood. As a child he received only three years of formal
education. He was only a mediocre student, but showed an amazing ability for problem solving.
This was around 1859 about the time his mother started to lose her hearing. In 1863, Bell first heard
a machine designed by a German scientist, that imitated the sound of the human voice. He was very
intrigued with this machine, and it probably provided the seed that led to the invention of the
telephone. He and his brother obtain the book written by the scientists, translated it from German,
and learn how the machine worked.

  • 2. Cargo Transport Evolved From When The Cargo Industry Background Shipping a package/parcel to anybody around the world today seems easy and convenient; the thought of what the carrier goes through does not cross anybody s mind. The airline industry in cargo transport evolved from when the cargo industry began. When comparing all airliners in cargo transport, all the basics for carrying cargo seems to be the same. First aircraft and crew safety must be adhered to and proper weigh and balance must be accomplished. Inspection of the cargo is critical! Proper weight, hazardous material, and dimensions must be physically checked. Finally, all paperwork must be compiled...but, how did all this came to be? When all this started back in 1918 and Air Mail service begun, I bet nobody checked all these precautions we do today. Possibly loaded the aircraft with as much bags of mail in the cargo hold as the aircraft could hold and attempt a takeoff. After having much success the U.S. post office took over all responsibilities for the War Department, and so we begin. (Vassilopanagos, A. 2015) History of FedEx After the end of the war in 1944 there was an abundant supply of military pilots, ten of which came from the 1st American Volunteer Group (AVG). They were experienced in hauling freight and started their own company calling it National Skyway Freight, which later became known as the Flying Tiger Line. The company utilized surplus aircraft purchased from the Navy and created a transcontinental route across the United States. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Seatbelt Law, By Thomas Hobbes, And Jean Jacques Rousseau INTRODUCTION Every day millions of people around the United States commute daily to work, and to run their errands. Should the government be able to create and enforce this laws such as this one on the public? This paper will discuss the seatbelt law, the views of philosophers Thomas Hobbes, and Jean Jacques Rousseau, and whether or not this law is ethical. THOMAS HOBBES Thomas Hobbes (1588 1679) was an English philosopher who is best known for his work in political ethics. Hobbes had a pessimistic view of the human race, however his theory has been used as a major influence on western political views. In 1651, Thomas Hobbes wrote Leviathan, in which he states that life before government was violent, brutal, and barbaric. Hobbes continues on to argue that civil peace and social unity are best achieved by the establishment of a commonwealth through social contract. Leviathan consisted of four books: 1.) Of Man, 2.) Of Commonwealth, 3.) Of a Christian Commonwealth, and 4.) Of the Kingdom of Darkness. The first book contains the philosophical context, while the second book outlines the rights of the citizens within the commonwealth. The third book argues against certain scriptures, and whether or not a person can claim supernatural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Significance And Consequences Of The Lyndi Fourie... After the horrific events that occurred during the Apartheid in South Africa, Ginn Fourie and Letlapa Mphahlele established the Lyndi Fourie Foundation as a reconciliation technique that would peacefully unite South Africans. The foundation was established after the murder of Lyndi Fourie. Her death was orchestrated by Mphahlele s Azanian People s Liberation Army (APLA) as an act of retaliation in 1993. Fourie and Mphahlele first met during a trial with the Truth and Reconciliation Council (TRC) where the former was granted political amnesty. After the consultation, they developed intentions to promote healing and reconciliation within South Africa through the creation of a foundation. In regards to its effectiveness as a reconciliation technique, the foundation s head facilitator Liz Calvert stated that each participant worked successfully on forgiving their families, the community, alcoholism, and creating a vision for the future, (Beyond Forgiving). Calvert s statement demonstrates that the foundation is effective as it ensures that participants are collectively focused on forgiving each other, themselves and improving for the future. Furthermore, one participant was quoted as saying it was time he forgave his dark side. He has a dark side and it s time for him to let it go, (Beyond Forgiving). Therefore, not only from the perspective of the facilitator, but from the participant s perspective, reconciling through this means is effective. In addition to promoting forgiveness, the focus on the development of the future indicates that South Africans are cooperating. This is compelling evidence to show unification amongst South Africans. Despite the supporting evidence, it is important to address the economic setbacks. Similarly, presence of risk factors such as age 65, COPD, diabetes, heart failure, atherosclerotic heart disease, asthma, smoking, etc. had similar prescription rate of 62% to those patients without risk factors (Grover, Mookadam, Rutkowski, Cullan, Hill, Patchett Noble, 2012). • 7. Tyco Case Study Critique the Moral Aspects of Leadership Introduction This paper is about the lack of moral and ethical leadership of Tyco International s former highest paid chief executive officer (CEO) Dennis Kozlowski (Kaplan, 2009). Tyco International is a business leader in Global Fire Safety and Security Solutions. Tyco s United States headquarters is in Princeton, New Jersey and the Corporate Headquarters in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. According to Kaplan (2009), Dennis Kozlowski reigned over a decade as an ambitious CEO who had earned the nickname Deal a Day Dennis based on his notorious business decisions including aggressive and speedy acquisitions. Kozlowski was a leader determined to make Tyco the greatest company and succeeded well in transforming it from a $1.5 billion manufacturer into an industrial corporation worth more than $100 billion (Kaplan, 2009). Ethical issues In June 2002, Kozlowski was accused by the Manhattan district attorney Robert Morgenthau, of evading $1 million in sales tax on the purchase of rare artwork (Timeline of the Tyco International scandal, 2005). This investigation opened a can of worms indicting Kozlowski and Tyco s former chief financial officer (CFO) Mark H. Swartz of looting millions of dollars from the company, misconstruing financial records and doctoring business records (Brickey, 2008). • 8. Disadvantages Of Code Switching As the globalization of world economies, cultures, and peoples continue to increase, it is inevitable that languages also follow. In the present day, it is nearly safe to say that there are no nations in the world that are homogeneously monolingual. With the knowledge of two or more language varieties, comes the ability for bilinguals or multilinguals to move between two or more varieties within a single interaction. This phenomenon is known as code switching (CS). It should be noted that CS is different from style shifting and other language contact phenomena because the varieties being used are distinct it s one variety or the other at one time. Such shifts may occur at any level of linguistic structure, whether it be within a single paragraph, sentence, clause, or word. The places where CS occurs can be categorized into four subtypes: intrasentential switching (within a sentence), intersentential switching (between sentences), tag switching (tag phrases in a different code from the rest of the sentence), and intra word switching (within a word). Each category has drawn significant attention from the sociolinguistic community, but the reasons for the occurrence of CS within the confines of a sentence (intrasentential) has attracted the most academic interest. It is not at anytime that varieties can be combined intra sententially. • 9. Capital Structure theories Capital Structure Theories Capital Structure Capital Structure is the proportion of debt, preference and equity capitals in the total financing of the firm s assets. The main objective of financial management is to maximize the value of the equity shares of the firm. Given this objective, the firm has to choose that financing mix/capital structure that results in maximizing the wealth of the equity shareholders. Such a capital structure is called as the optimum capital structure. At the optimum capital structure, the weighted average cost of capital would be the minimum. The capital structure decision influences the value of the firm through its cost of capital and can affect the share of the earnings that pertain to the equity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This approach also says that the overall cost of capital is independent of the degree of leverage. Features of NOI approach: 1. At all degrees of leverage (debt), the overall capitalization rate would remain constant. For a given level of Earnings before Interest and Taxes (EBIT), the value of a firm would be equal to EBIT/overall capitalization rate. 2. The value of equity of a firm can be determined by subtracting the value of debt from the total value of the firm. This can be denoted as follows: Value of Equity = Total value of the firm Value of debt 3. Cost of equity increases with every increase in debt and the weighted average cost of capital (WACC) remains constant. When the debt content in the capital structure increases, it increases the risk of the firm as well as its shareholders. To compensate for the higher risk involved in investing in highly levered company, equity holders naturally expect higher returns which in turn increases the cost of equity capital. Example: Let us assume that a firm has an EBIT level of $50,000, cost of debt 10%, the total value of debt $200,000 and the WACC is 12.5%. Let us find out the total value of the firm and the cost of equity capital (the equity capitalization rate). Solution: EBIT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Negative Effects Of Bullying s Effects, And Its Effects Although both secondary and primary sources describe the impact that bullying has on the victim as being negative, there are still differences between them. Natalie, the fifteen year old victim, says, Soon I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I lost all self esteem and became paranoid about people (Sawer). Depression, anxiety, and the other effects Natalie experienced from bullying are all harmful. She also said she considered suicide and would perform self harm by doing things like tearing out her hair. The personal side of what bullying can cause a person to do/feel are revealed through what Natalie described. Although not as severe as Natalie, the other bullying victim, Eric, also had a damaging experience with bullying while it was occurring. Eric says, I think it s fair to say that bullying never affects the victim positively at a young age. It made me very shy and scared. I always felt like I had to be on guard (Goldman). The bullying had a negative impact on Eric s life while it was occurring. He felt shy and scared which could be averse to his mental and physical health. The perpetrators made both the victims feel desolate. Feeling grim led to short term mental and physical issues such as being fearful and suicidal. • 14. Eugenics And The Eugenics Movement Introduction Human beings have always been interested in success, in making sure they survive, and creating new tools and technology to enable them to reach these goals. So it should come as no surprise that eugenics follows this same guideline in human history. A term originally coined by Francis Galton, first cousin to Charles Darwin, eugenicssimply means that the best people in society with the most healthy normal genes should continue to reproduce and pass on their goodness to the next generation, while the individuals with the unhealthy genes should be discouraged from having any children (Allen 2001:59). With movements beginning in the early 20th century, eugenicists and proponents of the eugenics movement, have taken particular interests in the heritability of social behaviors, implementing enforcement mechanisms such as military force, law, and forced medical procedures in order to maintain the well being of societies future generations. Although society today frowns upon many instances of eugenics in our history, it is still being practiced in the 21st century. Contemporary eugenics has become much more technologically advanced and individually focused through the means of prenatal diagnosis and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. Although these two approaches (past and present) to the eugenics movement are conducted in different ways, the motivations behind them are theoretically similar. Ranching means an establishment maintained for raising livestock under range conditions. Most ranchers commonly raise grazing animals such as cattle and sheep, most of the cattle are raised for their meat, not for dairy products. One of the pros that come from ranching is the diversity of plants and animals that is far greater on grazed managed grassland than on unmanaged grassland. Another benefit that ranching creates is that grazing improves the habitat for the Bay Checkerspot Butterfly, a threatened Californian insect. An interesting benefit that cattle creates is the rangelandthat provides habitat for insects that are valuable for pollination, pollination is very important to help plants grow and those plants feed animals that we eat benefiting humans. The Concept Of Leadership And Leadership Thought Item 2 (Option 1) In today s society the concept of leadership provides a structure for decisions to be made within teams, organizations, and businesses. The notion that only leaders should be credited for the success or failure carried out by their teams has been instilled in our minds since we first understood the concept of hierarchies. The fact that most business schools even posses a required leadership course proves the significance of this concept within today s society. The amount of work that the head of a team puts into a project is quite small compared to the total amount of work applied by everyone associated with the completion of the task. When defining the significance of roles within organizations, it is important to factor in the composition of the culture as a whole. Many people credit the creation of an organization s culture to the head of the organization. While this single leader may define how they envision the culture to be, the members as a whole truly develop the culture. This insight allows us to shift our focus from the leader to the followers. As a society, by accepting the fact that followers are our true leaders, we are bound to endure many positive and negative consequences resulting from the implementation. Followers will likely feel more empowered to make more decisions because they will be receiving more recognition for their work. This increase in empowerment will cause followers to be more productive within their roles, which will lead to a harder working society as a whole as more and more organizational structures follow suit. Another positive aspect of following this new approach is that we will steer away from the great amount of negative consequences created by single leaders due to the current composition of leadership. • 19. The Social Context Of The Goddess Athena And The Athenians Three key features of the Parthenon that reflected the social context of the goddess Athena and the Athenians are the Pediments, the Internal Frieze and the Athena Parthenos. The Parthenon, meaning of the virgin referring to the goddess Athena, was built in 447 BC and opened to the public in 432 BC. It is located in the south side of the Acropolis in Athens, Greece and was built to house the cult statue of Athena. There are two pediments on the Parthenon; one on the East side over the Naos (interior room), the other on the West side over the Opisthodomos (back porch). The East pediment shows the birth of Athena. Zeus had eaten Metis, who was pregnant with Athena at the time. She gave birth in Zeus stomach and Athena climbed into his head. It hurt so much that Zeus ordered Hephaestus to cut open his head with an axe. Athena then leaped from the wound in full battle armour. On this pediment, Zeus and Athena are portrayed as being the same size, which is unusual as men were seen as superior to women so were portrayed as larger. This is significant because it shows how highly the Athenians thought of their patron goddess; enough to be the equal of the king of the gods. The Athenians chose this myth to be shown on the pediment because it represents how highly Athena is thought of and it is also the story of her birth, which without there would be no Athens. When accomplished appropriately, anger can be an important tool used by a healthy adult. But anger has risks, perhaps more than any other emotion, it can isolate people from other adults and lead individuals to engage in behavior they may later regret. Angercan be manifested through a variety of ways, including physical violence, verbal profanity and internal frustrations. Anger can be the result of sadness, fear, or an overall inability to effectively cope with the struggles of everyday life. Writer had the experience of interacting with a client, TR, who was in the middle of an anger outburst, due to behavior of a staff member. The A soon began to lose its shameful meaning and instead become a symbolic example of Hester s courage and show that public shaming cannot compete with one s own means of self torture. To begin, the scarlet letterhad lost its meaning over the course of time. Then, also, the blameless purity of her life during all these years in which she had been set apart to infamy was reckoned largely in her favor. The Importance of Phonological Awareness Development in Preschool Children John Kimball University of Mississippi Introduction Phonemes, which are the individual units of sound, such as /b/, /p/ or /m/, are considered to be the building blocks of language development. The individual phonemes are the first sounds we utter as infants. The babblings of infants comprise of all the phonemes contained in their language. As an infant develops into a toddler, the phonemes come together to form the first words, and eventually these words group together to form sentences. The developments from infancy to the time that these children begin preschool or become preschool age are the beginnings of speech communication. A child must learn the rules of phonology before they can begin to learn to read. Phonology is the study of the unconscious rules governing speech sound production (Adams, Foorman, Lundberg, and Beeler, 1998). This is one of the first topics that teachers begin instructing upon in preschool. Children begin to learn the alphabet and start to associate the sounds with their corresponding letter. This instruction from teacher begins the development of each individual child s phonological awareness. Phonological awareness has been shown to be one of the most reliable predictors and associates of reading ability (Mann, Foy, 2003). Children quickly develop an awareness of phonemes and can learn to attend to and manipulate these speech sounds in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Psychological Disorder In Hamlet Having a psychological disorder fundamentally changes a person s personality. It makes people unrecognizable to their friends and family while causing them to act in ways a normal person would never consider. One piece of literature that explores a person s display of a psychological disorder is William Shakespeare s Hamlet. In the play, Hamlet, the main character, was so obsessed with seeking revenge for his dead father that he killed innocents and destroyed an entire royal family. Hamlet s behavior in the play often matches the many symptoms of a psychological disorder described in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition (DSM 5). Most projects focus on producing a rocket (only focus on delivery). Successful projects however look further: why do we create a rocket? Because we want to go to the moon. If NASA would have only focussed on delivering rockets, they would never have reached the moon and probably had produced a great number of disasters while delivering or using those rockets. A Business Case focus, rather than only a delivery focus! (By the way off topic: this delivery approach for me also caused the current financial crisis. Background/setting the stage There are seven ages of Man said William Shakespeare and it is not difficult to say that Man faces seventy problems in each of these ages. However, just as it is natural to develop immunity against viruses, Man also learns and develops several skills while facing these difficulties one of the classes of skills being analytical, logical, and decision making and in more general, problem solving. The importance of problem solving can t be emphasized enough as be it small or big, be it personal or professional, we face problems day in day out and we wish to fix them. One powerful way of enabling Man to learn these skills is through Mathematics. Several academicians would like to put it as Mathematical processes acknowledging that if Mathematics refers to armory of concepts, the real deal is the process of using relevant tools out of the kit to solve problems. However, bitcoin holders are anonymous and could act in a similar way to black markets, their bitwallet is unregulated and untaxed. Using bitcoin as a currency also delves into the problem where users purchase illegal objects and substances anonymously. Bitcoin is essentially an electronic cash currency and is perceived as a great success since its launch in 2009. Most e cash schemes require a centralized bank, which acts as a safeguard for potential scams or for double spending detection. (Simon Barber et al. 2012 p 401), In contrast, the bitcoin protocol allows individuals to freely send bitcoins without any third party interference. The fee for sending bitcoins is very little in comparison to other online payment methods such as PayPal thus bitcoin is considered to be cost efficient. (Grinberg, R. 2012 p 160). Bitcoin is considered ethical because it is unique to the characteristics of credit cards. Banks have attempted to remove the issue of fraud and find mechanisms to stop hackers and phishers from obtaining personal data. As a consequence of this command, Jesus promised the apostles a place in heaven along with Christ s return (John 14:3), assurance that Christ was the way to the Father (John 14:6), and a permanent, indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit (John 14:16; Acts 13:52) who would be the apostle s teacher (Luke 12:12) in Jesus absence (Gromacki, 1978). • 50. San Diego Beaches In Florida San Diego is a city in California that has about 17 miles of coastline, which offers a variety of beaches ( San Diego Beaches ). Pacific Ocean is the ocean that borders coast in California. Three major rock formations can be found in the North County beaches in San Diego, which are Bay Point Formation, the Torrey Sandstone, and Del Mar Formation. Bay Point Formation is about 100,000 years old, which is also the youngest rock formation, and it has a higher possibility for erosion to occur (Metzler). The Torrey Sandstone is about 46 million years old, it has a lighter color than Bay Point Formation, and it is hard enough to provide protection for the softer Bay Point Formation (Metzler). Del Mar Formation is slightly older than the Torrey Sand... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main reason for the difference is that the two places are at different sides , one in the east, the other in the west, and because of this difference, the weather at these places can also have a big effect on the beaches. Erosion is a process that occurs at both the beaches in San Diego and Northeast Florida. The only difference between the two is that in San Diego, the erosion occurs on the bluffs, while in Florida, it occurs on the dunes. Both the natural and human activities cause erosion to occur at both places. The activities include the weather, such as the storms can wash away the sand, which will eventually cause erosion to occur, and human building structures near the shorelines can allow erosion to happen. Although erosion is still occurring at the shorelines, people have tried to do some activities that can help reduce or slow the bluff and dunes erosion at both places. In San Diego, people have built sea walls and placed riprap along the shorelines to help prevent erosion. Sea walls are usually made up of boulders, steels, and concrete and they are more expensive to build than the riprap (Metzler). Riprap is placed on the sand along to the shorelines of the beach, it is usually made up of rocks, and it is less expensive than building sea walls (Metzler). The purpose of both the sea walls and riprap is to help protect the bluffs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Analysis Of The Article Gop Fox Circus Act By Reed... In the article GOP Fox Circus Act , Reed Richardson argues that although both the GOP and Fox have conservative political values, they are ultimately harmful to each other s agendas because of their differing political goals. Both organizations are lacking popularity in recent years so they are struggling to find new ways to gain an audience. The GOP wants to find a way to get their ideas to a wide variety of people, whereas Fox is promoting more liberal views to increase the ratings of their programs. On one hand, the GOP s reputation is hurt by the inaccuracy of Fox s reporting. On the other hand, Fox is tied down by the conservative views of the GOP, thus restraining Fox from gaining a larger audience. Journalist Reed Richardson wrote this article for The National, a liberal newspaper, in 2013, so the events and issues that he is speaking of are still relevant to this day. Due to the differences of political views between the author and the subject matter, there is plenty of room for biased statements and opinions. Does Richardson provide enough evidence of the harmful effects of the Fox and GOP relationship? Richardson clearly and meticulously establishes the problems that both organizations face in the pursuit of their political goals with the use of statistics, reliable sources, and thorough evaluation of events; however Richardson constantly provides the reader with a biased argument when discussing the current state of Fox. Richardson successfully portrays the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Conflict Conflicts do not always have to be destructive. In fact, in many instances, conflicts are incentives that cause us to take action to accomplish a particular goal. Getting issues out in the open and on the table allows teams to evaluate an issue with more complete information and, in the end, to make a better decision. Too often teams operate as if they re in an volunteer organization. You know what I m talking about; everyone is polite during the meeting but then after the meeting s over the cliques form to judge what he or she said. I can t believe what a stupid idea that was. Now why don t we stop pretending to be polite and have the conflict face to face? Weren t you taught to attack the process, not the person? Save time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Perspectives on conflict in the workplace can be broken down into three categories: the traditional approach, the behavioral approach, and the interactionist approach. The traditional view, popular in the early twentieth century, holds firmly to the fact that conflict is destructive and should be avoided at all costs. By adopting this view, organizations miss out on the many benefits of conflict that can be brought to their team members. The behavioral approach, which emerged around the 1940 s, recognized that conflict was inevitable in the workplace. This mode of thinking accepted conflict as natural, but modern management theory has taken this thinking one step further with the interactionist approach. Interactionist theories of conflict don t just accept conflict, they embrace it and the benefits it can bring. For a successful and developing company, this is where your thinking should lie. The first step in effectively managing conflict with this perspective is to determine and control where the source of conflict arises. When disagreements arise about how projects should be carried out, objectives should be fulfilled, and long term goals should be reached, conflict has the power to spark creativity and enhance problem solving. One of the most important elements of managing conflict and reaping its benefits now becomes clear. Conflict can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. The Invention Of Alexander Graham Bell Alexander Graham Bell was not an American born inventor. He was born in Edinburgh Scotland March 3, 1947. His father was a formal speech teacher. This might account for his early interest in speech and sound. As a boy he was so intrigued with sound he taught himself to play the piano. When he was a teenager his mother began to lose her hearing, and this further perpetuated his entrance and desire to explore sound. Bell was a very smart young man. At age 12 he invented a machine to take the husks off grains of wheat. This became a very important invention at this time, because processing wheat by hand was very time consuming. People began to notice that he was a very innovative child. His friend s father who owned the grain mill appreciated his invention so much that he gave him a small shop to work on his inventions. Alexander Graham Bellwas home schooled by his mother early in his childhood. As a child he received only three years of formal education. He was only a mediocre student, but showed an amazing ability for problem solving. This was around 1859 about the time his mother started to lose her hearing. In 1863, Bell first heard a machine designed by a German scientist, that imitated the sound of the human voice. He was very intrigued with this machine, and it probably provided the seed that led to the invention of the telephone. He and his brother obtain the book written by the scientists, translated it from German, and learn how the machine worked. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
