Innovation Adoption Determinants and Competitive Advantage of Selected SMEs i...IJAEMSJORNAL
Rivalry within the Nigerian business environment has made the competitive atmosphere fierce, even amongst small and medium enterprise (SMEs). This has created a dilemma for firms desiring to remain relevant and has informed the urgent need to achieve sustained competitive advantage through innovation adoption. This paper investigated the effect of innovation adoption determinants on competitive advantage of SMEs in Ado-Ota local government area, Ogun State, Nigeria. Empirical and theoretical reviews were used to establish theeffect of innovation adoption on competitive advantage. Primary data collected with a pre-tested questionnaire administeredto four hundred and forty-six managerial cadre of selected SMEs was used. The regressed data results revealed that innovation adoption determinants exhibited positive significant effects on the competitive advantage of the surveyed selected SMEs. The paper recommends that owners-managers of SMEs should seek to selectively adopt innovation in order to gain competitive advantage and achieve sustainable superior performance over their rivals on the long-run.

Shared Value Enterprise works on the principle of encouraging organizations to aspire to become the change agents by adopting shared value related business models or activities.
Globalization creates many opportunities but also challenges for businesses today.
While some challenges may be particular to a country or sector, there are many challenges that SMEs around the world have in common.
Numerous barriers exist, so in order for SMEs to not only survive and grow, they must be armed with the correct tools and strategies to overcome these challenges and thrive.
While there are some that the individual business cannot control (at least for now) that does not mean they should sit back and do nothing.
A business that decides to understand the challenges and develop a program for finding solutions is a business that puts itself in a position to achieve success.

Green Training in a Blue Economy: The Role of Training in Corporate Sustainab...Human Capital Media
The training function has been a key player in many of the green initiatives that have sprouted up in recent years. But with the lingering economic doldrums, many organizations are sharpening their focus on the bottom line. Will the “new normal” undercut the drive for a green future? In this session, we’ll look at a number of examples of sustainability initiatives in a variety of organizations and the role of training in supporting them. Finally, we’ll share ideas for training organizations that want to lead by example with environmentally friendly training practices.

14. What is Shared
Value?
DefiningSharedValue
The concept of shared value is defined as policies and practices that enhance
the competitiveness of a company while simultaneously advancing the
economic and social conditions in the communities where it operates. Shared
value creation focuses on identifying and expanding the connectivity between
triple bottom line benefits – social, economic and environmental.

0/ Roti, kapda aur makan (Food, Clothing & hunger); Nobody talks about clothing (dignity and cover – basic essential need). Winter does not kill people, lack of clothing kills during winter; Hurricane kills people; Earthquake kills people – these are natural calamities. But winter is not a natural calamity and a simple intervention can make a supreme diff. Here comes GOONJ – a unique model of enabling access to decent clothing for the underserved segment as per their specific needs.
1/ SV has 2 main perspectives today - One, SV as a concept / language (policies and practices that defines the competitive adv of the company while enhancing the social and environment outcomes in the community, where the company operates). This address the what part. What is Shared Value
Second, SV as a journey. Transformation perspective. Here, companies do understand that SV is a meaningful proposition and will enable the socio-economic benefits. So, let’s go ahead with it. The adopters are at different stages of SV journey. Stage 1 involves identifying the need to be addressed, the one, which also gets mapped to the competencies and capabilities of the enterprise; Stage 2 involves designing the appropriate value offerings followed by BM for value creation, delivery and capture. Stage 3 involves going for collaborations and networks besides designing the quantifiable metrics (business and social), which can act as a feeder into the business model to make changes, if required. Finally, deciding upon scaling the initiative from millions to billions..
There are many examples of enterprise still focusing on 1st dimension but then there are many enterprises, who are different stages of dimension 2 and these are the organizations, which need direction, encouragement, recognition and act as role models for future enterprises.
SVE is a framework cum assessment tool to identify, assess and recognize such enterprises by having a detail understanding of their complete business model.
Now what happens? If they meets the criteria, these are certified as shared value enterprise for a year and also included in the annual ranking of shared value enterprise List, which will be released every year during Shared Value Summit
If not, then they get a detailed feedback report about what is going good and what can be improved as well as if they wish, they can also get a competitive analysis report on similar orientation.
How to proceed ? Following steps are involved : 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
What are the deliverables? Multi –level choice based driven by company’s own assessment on 5 basic questions as follows:
What is the framework like?
4 pillars or dimensions -
P1: MS& O (how the company has defined it vision, mission; what level of top management commitment; what kind of culture or structure; Is the SV orientation carried out as a project or at enterprise level; What kind of market performance; financial returns; socio-economic outcomes; How the metrics are defined and implemented
P2: RPM - What kind of need is identified; Is it mapped to SDG; How does it get linked to competencies; Is it a incremental or disruptive innov; Is it a standardized or custom product or solution offering; Is it a existing market or new market; what kind of metrics are identified for social / env impact; what kind of cost efficiency or revenue maximization has been carried out
P3: RVC - Which value chain components are targeted and how; what kind of productivity changes are done and how; what kind of metrics are identified for social / env impact; what kind of cost efficiency or revenue maximization has been carried out
P2: ELCD - What kind of clusters and institutional focus; procurement level clustering; delivery level clustering; stakeholder management model (agenda, communication, value co-creation etc.); what kind of metrics are identified for social / env impact; what kind of cost efficiency or revenue maximization has been carried out
How targeting unmet needs drives incremental revenue and profits?
How better management of internal operations increases productivity and reduces risks?
How changing societal conditions outside the company unleashes new growth and productivity gains
