Communication

Didyouknowthat....?
Didyou
know
that....?
When you trust your child to a school it is the beginning of
an educational partnership between parents and teachers,
so communication related to it should be based on this fact
Research findings points out that students perform
better when parents and teachers understand each
other’s expectations and stay in touch with one
another. This is especially effective if both parents
and teachers fully involve the child in designing the
learning process and the curriculum.
Communication between school and home it is by
definition a two-way flow of information. Otherwise
we do not talk about communication. Schools and
families can use different channels to enhance two-
ways communication and interaction.
Teachers are most inclined to initiate communication
with parents when they perceive that administrators
value such communication, their colleagues are
supportive of parental involvement, and the parents
seem appreciative of the outreach.
People have different communication styles. Experts
summarised these styles in four main categories:
Passive, Assertive, Passive Aggressive and Aggressive.
The most effective communication style is Assertive.
When people is assertive they express themselves in a way which
make others feel comfortable with them and with themselves. They
listen, respect other people and accept their feedback, so that, in
turn, other people also like listening to them, respect them and
accept their feedback.
Living together, real inclusion at school can be
influenced by the way the curriculum, the
whole school and the classrooms are
organized, and specially by how positive
personal relationships among all school
community members are monitored and built.
In this module you will find useful information,
activities and resources about key issues on
communicating with your child's teachers and
school.
It might help you to enrich your communication
with them and build nice partnerships for the
best interest of your child.

  • 10. Didyou know that....? When you trust your child to a school it is the beginning of an educational partnership between parents and teachers, so communication related to it should be based on this fact Research findings points out that students perform better when parents and teachers understand each other’s expectations and stay in touch with one another. This is especially effective if both parents and teachers fully involve the child in designing the learning process and the curriculum. Communication between school and home it is by definition a two-way flow of information. Otherwise we do not talk about communication. Schools and families can use different channels to enhance two- ways communication and interaction. Teachers are most inclined to initiate communication with parents when they perceive that administrators value such communication, their colleagues are supportive of parental involvement, and the parents seem appreciative of the outreach. People have different communication styles. Experts summarised these styles in four main categories: Passive, Assertive, Passive Aggressive and Aggressive.
  • 11. The most effective communication style is Assertive. When people is assertive they express themselves in a way which make others feel comfortable with them and with themselves. They listen, respect other people and accept their feedback, so that, in turn, other people also like listening to them, respect them and accept their feedback. Living together, real inclusion at school can be influenced by the way the curriculum, the whole school and the classrooms are organized, and specially by how positive personal relationships among all school community members are monitored and built. In this module you will find useful information, activities and resources about key issues on communicating with your child's teachers and school. It might help you to enrich your communication with them and build nice partnerships for the best interest of your child.
