Sexual harassment at the workplace is unwelcome sexual advances, requests for favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. In Sri Lanka, female workers in plantations and garment industries often face sexual harassment by supervisors. While some companies have faced protests over harassment, Sri Lanka was the first South Asian country to recognize sexual harassment as a criminal offense in 1995, carrying a penalty of up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.
