Think about it
• What criteria would you use to assess

Colony Selection Directions
• 1. Round one work on an individual list
• 2. Round two discuss their pick within their
group and come up with the group picks
• 3. Round 3 will come up with a class list
  – If there are any differences the group can LOBBY for
    their person
  – 1 student will be designated to write the group picks
on the board or available surface
• The debate will be orderly and I will be the
  facilitator
Summary
• Would you use the same criteria for a voyage
today as you would a voyage for the 1500s?

• Pretend you are a settler and need to solve
some situations. (write in complete sentences)
1. How would you decide where to settle?
2. How will you feed your people?
3. How will you defend your settlement?
4. How will you solve conflicts between

• Tobacco becomes important crop

• Causes the population to grow

• Encouraged other Europeans settlers to come
  to North America
