• Thirdly, adolescents become aware and understand their
own thought process. This is known as metacognition or
introspection which is the ability to reflect on our own
thoughts and behaviours.
• It also involves being able to think about how one is

independent decision making, in that it allows
adolescents to ignore misleading advice but take on
helpful advice from others.
