This document discusses current topics and trends in health care in Canada. It outlines that Canada has an aging population, with nearly 18% of the population being seniors. It also discusses moving from a hospital-based health system to one focused more on home and community care. This will require supporting the over 8 million informal caregivers in Canada who provide over 1.5 billion hours of unpaid care annually. Being a caregiver can negatively impact one's mental, physical, and financial health. Employers need to consider supporting caregivers in the workplace as the population ages and more care is provided at home.
